Christmas Countdown - 2014

Good morning MMC! Happy Friday Eve!

The Sweet Garlic Chicken recipe I posted the link too yesterday turned out very yummy!! The only thing I did different was bake it at 350º - 15 minutes covered, 15 minutes uncovered (my chicken breasts were small to medium size) ~ the recipe calls for 450º - I just think that's too hot for chicken breast ~ they turned out awesome! Hubby liked them too. Gracie liked them too! :-? Little booger stole one off the counter while we were outside husking corn!! She was licking her chops when she finished! She was a dandy yesterday!! Jim said she was mischievous! :lol:

My Mom & sister came over to help with the corn. Thank goodness they did or I might still be doing corn!! Jim & I had a couple ears with supper last night & it was delish! I kept out about a dozen ears, mom kept about a 1/2 dozen & my sis took about 10....and then we put up 3 - 1 gallon bags (for Christmas Eve :-D) & about 17 or 18 quart bags. I would say the corn did well in the garden this year! Lol!

Oy corn... don't mention it. LOL We grow 1 full acre of corn. Takes a crew of about 8 people, 3-4 days. It is for this reason alone I have come to dread Mother's Day as that's when it comes in. LOL Glad you had extra hands! [emoji2]

The temps will be mid 90's to near 100 most of the week. We will cool down to 92 by Sunday then back up to 99 by Wednesday next week! Make it stop!!!

Bring on the cooler temps! :cold:

Wish I could. I'd roll in cooler temps for everyone. ;-)

Well, Happy struck again. Yesterday I came home to find he had gotten my sealed bag of chocolate protein powder I use to make shakes! He ate through the bag. It was in iur counter and I'm not sure how he reached it. The thought never occurred to me that he would be interested in it. It was a lot! After that much protein the poor dog may need some fiber to counteract that so he doesn't have some unpleasant trouble.

I told him his conduct was very unbecoming and that he should be ashamed of himself. He didn't seem to be embarrassed in the least bit, however.

Come on up I-35 and hang out with me a bit. We are upper 90s today but tomorrow a cool front moves in and Saturday our highs are in the mid-70s! Another front comes in next Wednesday!

Kidding you of course!!! I am being a smarty pants. (sorry, couldn't resist) I know the feeling all too well when watching my grandkids have their birthdays. It seems that time is flying and they are growing up way too fast!!!

Oklahoma is not a very far drive, just might have to go there for some cooler weather! Snow-in-Texas and I keep talking about going back to Turner Falls in Oklahoma. We had our honeymoon there. I use to go there all the time but it's been awhile. Our honeymoon was Wayne's first time there and he loved it!

I think you mentioned you have been there too? If so, did you ever go when they decorated the whole park for Christmas? We would stay in a cabin overlooking all the decorations and they had music playing over the loud speaker. They stopped doing that years ago and it really makes me sad - I miss it!!!

I've been there but always in the summer. Last time I was there it had not been well maintained like it had been in the past. That being said, every other time it's been great! It's such a pretty area! Have you ever hiked up to those old "castle" ruins?

Y'all still need to come out to the Wichita Mountains.

Oh yes! We have explored all the castles. My kids are all grown now but still talk about how much fun they had exploring them when they were little. The cabin we use to stay in on top of the hill had a part of a castle ruin there - looks like it was not finished being built. I am not really sure if the general public go up there often because it is up on the top of the road where the cabin is and usually only people who are staying in that cabin are the only ones that drive up that road.

We have stayed in one of the cabins during the summer that is on the main road right past the water bridge. The rest of the times were around Christmas and we stayed at the top of the hill overlooking the stream called the Ealey Cabin. They closed that cabin down but the Kieser cabins are still there and were remodeled. They are located right next to the one we use to stay in. We never stayed in that one but plan to someday!

Every time I go to Oklahoma and stop at the rest stop over the border where they have the tourist brochures I always pick up the one about the Witchita Mountains. I really want to go there someday!

Thank you!!!! See that's what I said!! I was on the phone with Noah when Moose stole the butter. Mid convo I interjected, "No Sir!! What in the world is wrong with you?? Did you loose your fuzzy brain?!"

Took it from him and explained to him that it would make him sick and again reiterated counters are off limits.

I walk back in the dining room to sit back down at my laptop and he slinks into my chair... also another no-no.... and gives me that face. I immediately coo about his cute face and smooshy head and ruffle his moose-like ears.

Noah says, "Mom... I've been meaning to say something to you about you discipline measures with my dog. They're uhm... a little lenient."

I said, "Oh I don't wanna hear it Pal. Mr. "MOOSE-YOU-SPIT-OUT-THAT-CAT.....aaawwww-who's-such-a-superboy-Moosey-is!" And That is a QUOTE Noah Jeffries."
