This morning was another holiday milestone---our little spinet piano was tuned. I always have it tuned this time of year so it sounds nice for Christmas (the only time I ever seem to play it). I was smiling to myself as I heard the tuner working her way up from the bass notes through the middle notes and ending on the high, high plinky notes, then playing some beautiful running arpeggios up and down the keyboard when she finished. When our piano is ready for Christmas, the rest of the world isn't far behind!

Wish I could hear you play it! Love hearing Christmas music played on pianos.

Good evening, friends~
We just put lasagna in the oven, and are getting back to some decorating while it cooks.
Hope you're having a Merry night!

I recall discovering my budgie, Smokey Joe dead in his cage when I was younger. I screamed, "He's dead. My God he's dead!" My mom came running up from the basement where she was doing laundry fearing from my shrieking voice that one of my brothers was dead. I've always found it hard losing pets and still remember them fondly after they're gone. My dog, Ragmop, lived for nearly 18 years and I still think about her and sometimes she visits me in my sleep, rises up on her back legs and talks to me. Smokey Joe was flying loose in my bedroom one Christmas Eve and I accidently left the door opened just a crack and he escaped and flew around the living room throwing my Great Auntie Vera into a panic. I called him and he landed on my shoulder and I took him back to my room. Poor Vera nearly had heart failure and so did Smokey as she was swatting away at him, his heartbeat sped up quite a bit. I didn't know she was afraid of birds, everyone blamed it on the Hitchcock film.

My grandson's dog, Jake died last September, he was a great comfort to his mom when she was battling cancer for the third time. My cousin's dog, Dexter (huge white sheppard/hound mix with satelite ears) died at the end of August after one last canoe ride on the river at their camp. I only met those dogs a few times, but still felt bad for their loss and the realization that I won't see them again because pets become family and it hurts when they're gone.
It most definitely hurts when they leave us! So much that some choose to never have another pet - which also makes me sad! (((hugs)))

This photo is a perfect image to carry with me while my mom and I venture out to do some Christmas shopping today. It's chilly this morning and not expected to warm up much this afternoon. No rain or snow expected so it should make it easy for my mom to get around. Last time we didn't bring her walker she calls "Lucy" for whatever reason, today we'll bring it as I noticed how exhausted she was near the end of our last shopping spree together.

Her eyesight isn't what it used to be since the stroke and she keeps telling me she's going blind, but it's only half true. The stroke caused some damage to her perception, she sees on a slant from one eye and a different angle on the other so she doesn't get the full view of things. I have to point out what is a shadow or a curb so she doesn't lose her footing.
She used to get so depressed over her physical limitations and vision problems, but now she sees things in more positve ways. The last time we were having lunch together she said, "well, if my eyesight goes "kaput" I can get a seeing eye dog and your father will have to go along with it." (My dad didn't want anymore pets after my dog, Raggs, died because he didn't want to feel the loss again and it was a strain financially as she had several surgeries over the years to keep her living as long as she did.)
They have a black cat that was born on Halloween and Pedro was supposed to be for therapy, but he's quite aloof and hardly ever sits with her on the sofa. He has brought her joy though.
Hope we find some merry items from her list. Not sure if I'm shopping today or just giving her a chance to shop that way I can carry her items for her - the basket on her walker doesn't hold much.
We had a Montana's open here last weekend maybe we'll go there for a late lunch. Nope, I won't just be having salad if I go there.

Keep a merry thought in your head, everyone!
It's hard to see parents getting older and having a hard time getting used to new fysical circumstances. It's good to read she is thinking in possibilities! Take care of each other!
