Days to Christmas Day: 187

And be warned, you are about to have a close encounter with a major Milestone in just FIVE days, that marker being the HALF WAY POINT to Christmas Day 2017!
(Yes, my Friends. It's really that close.)


A rain free day at last yesterday? Well, almost. Had some precipitation in the early morning but otherwise stayed dry until late last night.
Looks like we may get more of the wet stuff added today but for now, no rain is falling and we see a temperature reading of 70 degrees here in the NC Piedmont.


Can it be 'Pines Day again so soon? Carl says so. And he's saying it with fired twinkies, sweet southern iced tea and plenty of entertainment, the likes of which you will not likely find anywhere else.
Whether that's good or bad is in the eyes of the observer. How about coming this evening to try some observing of your own?

Seems crazy that kids are still in school. They've been out almost a month now here. I've seen some others mention kids were still in school - just seems so late!

I'm heading out in a few minutes, I have an early dentist appointment. Back home afterward to work on my daily chores. My oldest and her fiancé are on their way to Cancun, Mexico right now. I'll be anxiously waiting to hear from her so I know they made it there safe and sound.

I had begun to record a wonderful series of stories from the early 1900s, but didn't monitor the recordings through headphones. I think I'll start over using headphones so all the audio will be consistent, and I can hear any stray noises the mic is picking up.

I'm really slow about starting audiobook projects, because I'm self-conscious about reading aloud ... but oddly, using the headphones makes me feel more "private," so maybe that'll break my mental block and get me going.

I had a rough start ... just couldn't troubleshoot why my laptop wasn't picking up audio from the mic. 20 frustrated minutes later, I found out the mute button was on.

Kids here were done May 25th & they go back Aug. 23rd so basically they get 13 weeks off. Sure would be nice if our work would do the same. Ha ha!

We are heard to Riviera Maya in August.

We have our town festival this weekend - we live across the street from it, so we have the "party neighborhood" this week. LOL We always have friends & neighbors over on the Wed night before - we use to make 20 gallon of chili so Wed was our onion chopping, burger browning, etc night & friends would come help. We don't do the soup anymore, but continued with the party! Our back yard neighbors always have the patio party Thursday before the fest & then Friday all craziness begins! Our town will go from a population of under 2,300 to 80,000 + (over the course of the weekend)
My hubby bought a tent this year, the neighbor guys helped him get it all set up Monday night to cover our patio - should work out really nice! Our friends will be pulling their camper in tomorrow night.

Only thing is that going back after that amount of time is VERY difficult. It's hard enough to go back after a 3 day weekend. In some areas they do more of an even thing where you go year-round and get 3 weeks off at a time then go to school for 8-10 weeks straight.

I'm glad that was never a threat when I was a kid. I like my summers!

Picked up another Christmas gift last night and have started thinking about gift ideas for family members. I agree it wouldn't have been the same with the anticipation of the end of a school year. The other way it never truly "ends" just gives you a little longer break than a normal vacation.

Good Wednesday everyone! Overcast with chilly winds today, otherwise all is well. I'll be heading into work shortly for the afternoon/evening shift. This morning I've been looking at cruises for our Summer vacation. I can't see myself lying on a beach for 6 days in the hot Summer heat (it would've been better during our vacation in May but my Achille's tendon decided otherwise), but maybe a caribbean cruise would provide some beach time and cool relief when needed. We'll see what we decide to do. Have a great day everyone!
