I like surprise days off. I could be productive and do some reading or grading, but no. Instead, I am relaxing and watching boxing videos.
BEST. BOXING. EVER.

I got chills just watching it again!

home early as things at the store were very slow. Not a lot of folks wated to go out in this nasty weather. It is now raining and drivig anywhere is a real adventure. We now have a wind warning. Radar does not look good. I am glad to be safe and warm at home.
I'm glad you are, too!

That's the title of one of my Jim "Kimo" West albums---it might be the same one. (Or ki ho'alu may be a generic Hawaiian term for slack-key guitar, so it could be a different album.)
I finished listening to it when I got home from work on our surround sound! It was great !!

So glad you were able to go home early today! With the wind & the rain – even though it's warmer - it's just nasty out there! After I visited mom at the nursing home I followed a truck and trailer hauling a car and I was thankful to have seen it turn the corner before I got behind it because the trailer did not have any lights! Scary! Such a dark night! As much as I enjoyed visiting mom I am glad to be home too!

I have not read the book. I knew the movie was based off the book, but I had not heard of it until the movie came out.
I read it before the movie came out and thought it was awesome! So I was so excited to see they were making a movie – and the movie did not disappoint! (As they sometimes do) But it's funny because now I try to read the book every year but I can't help but picture Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis as the characters as I'm reading it. I would've never thought of them the first time I read it! LOL ( it's all good )

I do enjoy the Rocky movies. However, they do make me sad on two counts. First, the character Rocky is based on Chuck Wepner who fought Ali in the 70s. Apollo Creed is based on Ali as well. Anyway, Wepner was pretty much a no name that was supposed to be an easy win for Ali. Well, it did not work out that way. Ali won the fight but Wepner did better than anyone expected. A lot of Rocky's life in the first movie is based on Wepner's actual life. Stallone had several conversations with Wepner before writing the movie. Wepner did not receive anything though the story was based on his life and fight with Ali. Then, Rocky is from Philly as we all know and there is the big Rocky statue at the art museum in Philly. It is the statue from Rocky III. Well, Philly had a great REAL Heavyweight champion named Joe Frazier. Frazier has no statue and receives little recognition for being from Philly. Frazier also had opened a boxing gym in Philly for troubled youth. Frazier's son was also a boxer and ran the gym for a while. Joe is now dead and still no real recognition for being from Philly.

As you can probably tell, I am a big boxing fan. Though I must admit, right now there is a complete absence of talent in boxing. Especially in the US. I am hoping that changes soon.

I will try to read it this year. Though, I must be honest, I rarely read any sort of fiction anymore except for comics and graphic novels. When I have the time to read it is usually history books and articles.

I finally have been able to relax from this crazy start to the year. We are going to Mikes grandparents this weekend to celebrate Christmas with them. Carolina is so excited to see them. She hasn't seen them since Thanksgiving. We got to see them 2 times last week but unfortunately Carolina could not be with us because it was Sailors memorial service. Have a great night everyone

I turned off the few outside lights I still had up last night too. There are still some solar lights around the shrubs out front but they never really did work all that great. I'll be taking them down after this ice melts!
Nice to have vaca to look forward too. We'll be heading to Hawaii next month. I haven't even had a chance to think about it. Guess I better start, huh?!?
We have to start making lists of toiletries we will need, what clothes we will need to pick up for the boys, and possibly ourselves. I did get a "light" sweatshirt for myself yesterday with the trip in mind. Last second things like parking at the airport for the week...

Good Morning MMC !

buses cancelled, schools closed. driving is bad but I have to head into work by 10am.
Going to get worse as the day goes.
Then after this the temps go up and rain is expected. Going to be even messier on the roads.
Would be nice to just stay home and drink tea and watch movies.
But it is what it is, so we live with it and drive carefully.

Hope you all stay warm and safe. Have a great day !!

Hope you stayed safe today, Star.

Holy cow, that's been my argument for years!! I used an old family recipe and made some from scratch this year ... boozy and delicious (which coincidentally is how I sometimes describe myself)... brought back good memories of Christmases past.
I wish I liked egg nog. :(

The day is not over yet, I can see Christmas with the Kranks or A Christmas Carol in my future today! :D
I love Christmas With The Kranks, it is such a shame it gets such a bad wrap.
Maybe I should watch A Christmas Carol (1951) tomorrow, didn't get to in December.
