Happy Thursday! Just my usual working and hoping to get in a workout today.
On my way home last night..I saw 5 houses still lit up and someone still had their Christmas tree all lit up and decorated.
Have a great day!
Love it! :tree:

Oh he goes and lays down to eat them...he's taking some bites out of bananas...he will do it when I'm not around so his intention is to eat them. But he also likes me to chase him after everything toys or things he's not supposed to have (and knows it).
Silly pooch!!!
Today is the last day Gracie has to take her antibiotic (after 4 months of it) ...and she wouldn't take it. Wouldn't take any of her meds...not even her treat! I think she's knows something is up!! (upcoming vacation)

Wow, anyone who still has Christmas decorations and lights up must wait until Candlemas to take them down. Which is today as a matter of fact. Apparently if you go past Twelfth Night, superstition says you have to wait until Candlemas.
Whew - good thing mine is still up then! :)

Well there is nothing not to like about this!

Does Rollins like to eat the banana or just run around with it?? Too funny!!! Awesome about seeing Christmas lights!!! I worked on un-decorating a little more last night, but didn't get as much done as I hoped. Back at it at lunch today.
Have a good day.
Both...but he wants to eat it. He doesn't want me to take it from him. Well at least you have some lights still up!

Well today is Candlemas, the OFFICIAL official end to the Christmas season.

I have a question: Does anybody actively consider Candlemas to be part of their Christmas season?

I know we all like to continue our Christmas celebrations well into January, and I don't doubt Candlemas is at least a thought in the back of any Christmas lover's mind when it comes up and is perhaps just a fun excuse to do something Christmassy every February 2nd and still feel justified in doing so. Which is fine. That's definitely the case with me.

But does anybody see Candlemas as a day meant for celebration and worship in the religious terms it is defined as? Are there any denominations or communities here in the US that do that? And if so, is it still technically part of the Christmas season and seen as such, or is it more or less considered separate from it?

I am about as far away from being religious as a person can get, but its not a official holiday and I believe Groundhog Day gets 1000x's more coverage than Candlemas. I think I read Eastern European and maybe Catholic churches observe it more than anybody, but even then its scarce to see services anymore. Maybe somebody else can chime in that knows more about it and it being observed.

Good Morning, Friends!

Well, here we are once again. Checking on those numbers. Getting slowly more and more excited by the day.
And so it goes.

Days to the Season: 284
Days to Christmas Day: 326

TEN more days left now until we complete the entire first quarter of the journey back to our grand, glorious and ever-coveted Christmas Season.
(And, of course, that would mean SINGLE DIGITS from tomorrow, right?)
Right!!

Another wonderful day was had here yesterday to complete our transition into February. It should be a tad cooler today but still very nice. Tomorrow is when the chilly weather returns, but nothing intolerable.
Right now, our back door thermometer records 42 degrees here in our little sector of the great MMC Nation and the sky is a little overcast.

Have a Thrilling Thursday, Everyone.
And bear in mind that tomorrow is Weekend Eve once again!
As exciting as the numeric update is, I get a bigger charge out of more daylight in the morning and evening.

What a dog!! :D
Yep...I want it all down before we leave though. I don't want to have to deal with it when we get back...BUT I will have some white lights up around the house, as well as candles/lanterns/wreaths on timers.

I can honestly say I didn't know it was Candlemas until I logged on here this morning. That might be bad (being a Christian) but it's not something that was ever celebrated, or talked about around here. I'm not sure I have ever heard of it, except on this forum. But hey - lets celebrate it! :)

Me too! I have never heard of it either!

We were born & raised Catholic, live in a predominant Catholic community.... probably 99% Catholic. Never had heard of it.

We're active Methodists, but we've never really included Candlemas as part of our Christmas. Not sure why?

I think its mainly Eastern European now Holiday that still have some form of observance for it. And then its usually a Catholic persuasion that will observe it. I think Spain was big into it at one time or another. It likely has turned into a older holiday now that is just spoken of.

I have never heard of Candlemas. I am a practicing Lutheran. I will have to look into this.
