We got about 3 inches of snow today...pretty wet snow though so the roads are not bad.
Safe travels home! Enjoy the snow!!!

Thanks Holiday!
I’m leaning towards Rocky. I thought it would be cute to give a teeny tiny dog a name that’s kind of tough. Plus I love dog names that end in Y :)
I hope you’re having a nice day so far!!!
I like Rocky! It's my all-time favorite movie! Yes, even more than Star Trek LOL.

Everyone, have a wonderful evening. See you tonight at the Pines for Milestone night!!!

Brought Lucy to the groomer at lunch. We sure hit the jackpot with her (the groomer.) She's so awesome! I love talking to her! (And Lucy & Emmy were CRAZY!! They love each other!) Anyway, she's part of an animal rescue & last night she found 5 rescue wheaten puppies in Florida. She was planning a trip to FLA for the 4 of us (her & her hubby & Jim & I) - she contacted the rescue & they won't adopt out of state! What the heck??? I'm sure they will find great homes, but who could call these pups "worthless"??? Here's the story if anyone is in Florida & interested!!

Current situation: Tuesday night, 10:32 pm - after an 11 hour day, I can finally sit down, for just a few minutes, and try and unscramble the massive ball of mixed emotions in my head and heart. I just came inside after hosing out filthy travel carriers, the remnants of today's puppy mill intakes. Due to weather, our transport was delayed, and the pups arrived scared, filthy, and exhausted. Today's van full was five wheaten puppies and a goldendoodle puppy. All 5 months old, all as we were told, and I quote "like awkward teenagers, too young to breed and too old to be small, cute and fluffy for the pet stores, so they're basically worthless". Words like that weigh on my soul, especially when I look in their eyes, and know, that statement is categorically incorrect. Their lives have value, purpose, meaning. Their hearts have love they are wanting, hoping, waiting to give, yet too afraid, too unsure. The late arrival meant a phone call to Dr. M, asking for an after-hours favor, to get the pups checked, vaccinated and settled for the night. They are coming to us with nothing - no vaccine history, just a transport certificate with a birthday, some "AKC papers" that truly aren't worth the paper they are printed on, and a tag around their necks with a number, so getting vaccines on board as soon as we can is of utmost importance, and then we wait, for the next 15 days through quarantine, hoping that they don't break with anything, repeated exams, repeated fecals, a heart stop at the slightest sneeze - all while we try and mask our nerves so that the pups only absorb the positive energy - the love, the kindness, the positivity. These pups need us because there are humans out there who just don't get it - stop buying puppies at puppy stores ~ your "demand" for instant, cute, gratification creates a "demand" that the mills will keep fulfilling to keep padding their bank accounts and until people do get it, there will be many more late nights just like this, spent showing the "worthless" pups that they are worth it. Tonight these six are safe, warm, and on a solid surface for the first time in their lives. Please, please consider visiting www.floridalittledogrescue.com - any of the donation links will work, if you can lend a helping paw towards their medical care. Every donation matters, and helps. Tobin, one of the pups, after being examined, vaccinated, given dewormer and other meds just sat at Dr. M's feet for a minute. He then looked up, wagged his tail, and put his paw up on Dr. M's leg, as if to say "thank you", and all I could think was how I wished he could understand how much I wanted to think him, for being willing to take a chance on humans again, to give some of us the chance to get it right. Tobin, we will get it right for you, I promise. -Laurie

Footnote: No, we won't discuss adoption on any of the pups until they have passed quarantine in 15 days, and are fully medically cleared and vetted after that, usually about 30-45 days. We have previously had puppy mill pups break with parvo, k9 flu, get pneumonia - and we can barely handle our own hearts breaking with that, much less having to break a prospective adopter's heart - so it would be irresponsible of us to discuss. If the pups clear medical and are adoptable, they will be on the adoptable dogs page of our website, and we will only accept applications at that time:)
It's difficult to imagine that people treat animals so poorly. I realize there's a bit of irony there, since I enjoy hunting, but I always make sure my efforts are as quick and humane as possible, and nothing is wasted.

Pets are especially heartbreaking. Who could be so terrible to a dog or cat? I'm glad this person is working for them!

********** MILESTONE DAY **********

Good Morning, Everyone.
Rise, shine, gobble up that fired twinkie (you can get more tonight at the 'Pines) sit back, and enjoy the latest numbers, all the while celebrating our first Milestone Day of 2018!

Days to the Season: 300
Days to Christmas Day: 342

IT--IS--HERE! Our first marker of the 2018 Countdown season.
The 300-Day Season Window!
And tomorrow? We start a 200's level count to our beloved and much-coveted Christmas Season.
(What an exciting start to 'Pines Day!)

Well, were supposed to awake to the white stuff here this morning but there's not a flake in sight. That is predicted to change shortly, however.
Yet our current temperature is 36 degrees, not conducive to much of a snowfall!
Tonight? Down into the teens so anything that might come down today will freeze solid overnight.

But snow or no snow, ice or no ice, guards or no g...... (no, that's from something else) Carl is ready and waiting at the beautiful Shispering Pines double front doors with that first complimentary fired twinkie and glass of sweet southern iced tea.
There is new (and as yet unspecifed) entertainment in store for 2018 as well, so be sure to drop by to see what our friendly activities director has planned.

In the interim, you be certain to have a Wonderful Wednesday, OK?
Happy 300!!

Happy Wednesday to everyone!

We're expecting 4 or 5 inches of snow here throughout the day, with a freeze-up in the afternoon, so I opted to work at home today. Local schools are open, so I guess I'm a wimp, but I don't like slipping and sliding when I'm driving.
Everything closed out here, and the storm underwhelmed us. It was supposed to dump 4-8 inches, we got 1.5.

Merry Wednesday!

I hope everyone is having a good day!

Busy day for me today. I spent a lot of time making phone calls, waiting on hold, or playing phone tag. Aggravating, but at least I spoke to real people and I got everything I wanted to get done finished. :)

Be merry!

Good morning MMC ~
Merry Pines Day!
Happy Milestone Day!
We’re expecting rain mixed with snow today, temperatures in the upper 30’s. Not too much going on here, I’ll just be working on some chores around the house and playing with the puppy. Still no puppy name, but we’lre going to make a decision today. Dinner will be spaghetti & meatballs and mozzarella bread.
I hope everyone is well and has a wonderful day!

There are so many heartbreaking stories out there. Such a shame they don’t allow out of state adoptions.

Same here. The storm we had 2 weeks ago they kept saying 1-3 inches till the day of the storm and we wound up with 12. This storm they were saying 4-8 and we wound up with 2. That's why I get more nervous about the storms they don't hype than the ones they do :).

Morning MMC. Was a long day yesterday (or felt like it). Today hoping it's a little better. Wasn't bad though and went to Chinese Buffet for dinner. Good stuff. Rollins and I went to bed early last night. Hope it will give me some good energy today. Hope you all enjoy your Pre-Friday.
