I wrote and posted this a while back but fits better here...
A Knock at the Door from Autumn
By V. Rodney Harrison Jr. / 9-28-2010
Like clockwork it has arrived,
The distinct scent of vanishing jade.
Leaves dancing as they fall from high,
Vibrantly colored before they fade.
The brisk breeze is dashing all about,
Carrying the plush foliage to-and-fro.
Grand peaks of color encircle the trees,
As the burnt dusk begins to glow.
Seasonal gourds of all sizes and shapes,
Cover vine laden plains as far as one can see.
Shadows cast from the sinking auburn sun,
Via rays of light through the sagging bare trees.
A faint aroma from chimneys afar,
Trickles through the end of the day.
Giving a sense of warmth from deep within,
Evoking childhood memories of yesterday.
As this twilight arrives with a sea of stars,
As it has done each and every year before.
With much content in my tranquil soul,
I welcome Autumn knocking at my door…
