Yeah...I'm curious what they are up to. How will they pull this off? Will they perform in character?

I hope not … I hope they just perform straight and do their best. For some, like Dame Maggie Smith (if she participates), I suspect they may do recitations. That would be a treat.

I remember picking up an LP for 50 cents years ago of the Hogan's Heroes cast singing songs from WWII. I thought it would be a hilarious train wreck, but no---the actors performed straight, and I still listen to the album. A couple of surprisingly good voices and some very good performances. I'm hoping the Downton Abbey album will be a similar pleasant surprise.
 
I am looking forward to this one, too. Elizabeth McGovern is the lead singer of Sadie and the Hotheads and I just read somewhere in the past week or so that the band is on/going on tour in the US. Michelle Dockery, Lady Mary, sometimes sings with them.
 
Interesting. Wonder what song's they'll choose as a lot of tunes we associate with Christmas wouldn't have been written then! I guess it will mostly have to be carols...

It may not be restricted to the period … it may just be the cast members as performers.
