Ever combine Thanksgiving and Christmas?

We did and I got to thinking that others may have done the same.

Thanksgiving of 2000, my niece and her Mom came to visit us. Though my brother and her had been divorced, everyone came to my home to celebrate Thanksgiving. My niece and her mom (my ex-sister-in-law) drove a 7 hr. trip from up north to be with us. My niece always had to mail her gifts to us and we mailed our gifts up to her. But this year I wanted to surprise her. So she did not know that I had a Christmas tree and my basement decorated for Christmas. After dinner I asked her to come down to the basement with me. When she did other members of the family were already down there and we all shouted, "Merry Christmas".
It was grand. She got to experience having Christmas with us (she is the only child so her Christmases have been very lonely).

I am so glad that I combined Thanksgiving and Christmas for my niece. It would be my Mother's last Thanksgiving and Christmas that year. She passed away the following Nov. 2001 and at the time we had no clue it would be her last with us. What a joy she got to spend two special holidays with her oldest grandchild (my niece) and I give my brother and his ex-wife credit for they get along better now then when they were married.

Of course we still had Christmas in December but this Christmas in November was just for my niece and I'm so glad we did it.

We did last year. My DH's parents live a couple states away and usually visit over the Christmas holidays, but last year they came over at Thanksgiving instead. It worked out real nice, too. We usually have to run between our house, my sister-in-law's house and my parents' house all on Christmas Day. Since they came over early last year we only had to worry about getting to one place and it made for a much nicer holiday. Hopefully we can do it again this year!!!

I never have but my brother in laws family does it every year. They usually have it the weekend after thanksgiving and get together for there thanksgiving meal and then exchange christmas presents. There family is all spread out so they all come in town for that weekend so they can have it together.

No we never did. Most of our family lives with in 15 minutes from us and we get together with everyone either Christmas Day or the the 26th. DH's mom is the exception as she lives in Florida.

What a nice surprise for her! cheesy I always have my tree up for Thanksgiving so it feels like Christmas on that day but without gifts being exchange.

We have never combined them either. Most of our family lives within 20 minutes of each other, so we thankfully get to do it all! :smile:

No,I have not.Ya know,this could work for my hubby and his parents who live in La. they come up around Nov. usually,but this year they're flying up for Douglas' b-day.but Im liking this Idea! Thank You!

Yes all the time. To me the two go hand n hand. You cant have one w/out the other. And their both coming up cant wait!
