Good Morning Halloween Friends! Thank Goodness Monday is over! For me, Monday is always the longest day of the week, and it isn't made any better with the big 3 day weekend looming in the back of my mind.

We are in the 2nd day now, of a 3 day projected heatwave on this area. It got to 93 degrees yesterday. Should be the same today, then tomorrow will be 91, and then it subsides. We have rain moving in mid-week and very cool weather for this weekend, which will be awesome if it actually happens. Every time we have one of those scorching days, I think immediately of Fall, and remind myself that once July is out, we basically have it in the wind.

Have a great day, friends!

What's new, fellow spooks?

We hadn't a "proper" Seasonal Candy of the Week for quite a while until last week's entry by @LadyLynn, so let's continue the trend this week with another summertime treat that is perfect for this time of the year. This one really takes me back: It's the colorful, chewy Saltwater Taffy!

Admittedly, my association of this pick with the summer season has its roots in nostalgia. The first time I ever tried Saltwater Taffy was when my parents took me to the Kemah Boardwalk as a kid, and my dad bought me a handful. I remember really loving it back then, but I've tried some since then and it tastes....kind of flavorless? Maybe I've just never had a really good batch -- although I do love those peppermint taffies that make an appearance during the Christmas season.

What are your thoughts on this summertime selection? Too chewy and gooey, or perfect for a beachside day? Sound off below and tell us all about it!

Have a wonderful Tuesday, friends!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! At long last, we have arrived at month end.

Tomorrow begins the start of a new month, and the return back to July means several things are happening once again in Fall/Halloween world. First of all, JULY 4th is now just four days away. July 4th has long been saw as another major turning point for retail / stores, as traditionally we have saw "Back to School" sales immediately after and the very beginnings of Halloween candies making their way into the stores. Also on July 4th? We break into a 50's count in our count back to The Bers!

Also throughout July, we have block programming of QVC's "Christmas in July" sprinkled throughout the month. And two other pretty snazzy things, IMO - "Dark Arts Sunday" on July 25th, and then "Jack O Lantern Day #4" on Saturday the 31st! Having JOL Day on a weekend just always takes me back to those awesome, amazing, and lazy October weekends just lounging on the couch enjoying the Halloween movies!

So we say farewell to June today, and look forward to July, which puts us one month closer to everything that we love! Have a great day!

If you weren't excited before, now is definitely the time to get excited! I can't wait to see what happens after July 4th. I'm going "Fall/Halloween Hunting" the following weekend. If I find anything awesome I'll be sure to post it here!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! At long last, we have reached the month of JULY.

Like Edge said just a minute ago, it is a month that believe it or not, we may even see Halloween candy make its way back to the grocery stores. I'm leaning that we will; as that was the case last year, and several years back if I remember correctly. I know we are all ready and looking forward to that.

And we have another Milestone Day this month, it's gonna be a big one, so mark your calendars and please don't forget:

100 Days to Halloween: Friday, July 23rd. - We all know what happens after you break the 100 day seal, so buckle up!

Other Special days:

"Dark Arts Sunday" - Sunday July 25th. Rudolph Day & Harry Potter on the same day? Count me in

And of course, last but certainly not least, Jack O Lantern Day#4, on Sunday, July 31st. I'll be watching "Scary Stories to tell in the Dark", and "Goosebumps!"

So you mentioned "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark," and I know you meant the movie, but I don't think we've ever talked about the series of books in this thread. I remember reading through all of those when I was a kid, and some of them truly freaked me out. I think it was the illustrations in each book that did it. Grotesque stuff. It might be fun to revisit those books for JOL Day and see how they hold up now...

If we haven't talked about them in here, they are absolutely worth discussing IMO.

I have no doubt that the stories would hold up well as an adult. I still can remember and see vividly in my mind the terrifying illustrations from Stephen Gammell.

And the best / most crazy part - I got my first set of these books AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BOOK FAIR!

I remember finding out a few years ago and not being surprised at all that some of the school districts ended up banning the books.

So when I found out they were adapting some of the stories into a feature film, I was hooked and knew I had to go watch it! One of the last movies I ever saw in a theater before the pandemic took hold in 2020.

Good Morning Halloween Friends!

Well it is finally here. July 4th Weekend. As we have all pointed out previously, the weekend is a big one and a big turning point. Even though the calendar / weather might say otherwise, I have always felt that summer feels different after July 4th, especially as we get closer and closer to August. There are still going to be plenty of hot days and hot nights, but they start to mean something, at least to me, as the arrival of The Bers get closer and closer. And they are getting pretty close now. Who is ready to see that 50's count on Sunday? I know I am.

Have a great Friday!

Things definitely feel different to me after the 4th. Summer becomes a little less bothersome as my thoughts turn almost exclusively to the Bers. I still have to keep an eye out for any hurricane news, but I pretty much ignore the heat and focus on the downhill slope into August. And Christmas in July tends to bridge the gap quite nicely between the rest of this month and August, so there's almost no downtime.

After the 4th, I might start driving around in the evenings to see if I can spot where Spirit Halloween is going to turn up this year. You just never know! Any abandoned property with a "For Lease" sign is fair game.

Good Morning! First day of the big 3 day holiday weekend! And we've got awesome weather too! Yesterday and Today might be one of the coolest days I can ever remember in JULY. It's 57 degrees outside now. It just feels amazing.

And every time we get a day like this, I always think about Fall & Halloween the entire day. It just feels amazing.

A good cool day like today calls for a Hobby Lobby run, I want to see how much more Fall stuff is in there, and I also hope to see my beloved Christmas trees, and the "my little Christmas" product line!

Have a great day, friends!

Good Morning Halloween Friends and Happy July 4th!

SyFy all weekend long is having "Wizarding World Weekend", Harry Potter and the Fantastic Beasts movies are playing in a Marathon. With the cool weather yesterday, I had them on in the background and actually dozed off with "The Prisoner of Azkaban" playing in the background. It really felt like a wonderful October weekend that we talk about so much in this thread.

I don't have a lot planned for today, just another relaxing weekend around the house. This might be one of the coolest July 4th days I can ever remember, maybe the coolest one of all time - with the high only reaching 72 degrees today!

I have to run now, I think the Bers thread is going to be pretty crazy today. If you didn't notice the counts, please check again. Today is really something!

Have a safe and happy July 4th!

No trees yet at my Hobby Lobby as well, Snake. They're playing it close to the vest this year. Maybe after the July 4th weekend we'll see a change.

Speaking of which...the floodgates are about to open. With retailers already sneaking a few Fall items into shelves early, I feel strongly that we are going to see "Fall creep" this year immediately following the July 4th weekend. I hope I'm right.

I'll be checking my local Marshall's and Homegoods next week for any Halloween items...

Hope you all have a delightful Monday!

I went to 4 Hobby Lobby stores in Alabama while on vacation and none of them had trees out. In fact, they didn't have hardly any Christmas out at all. Not sure why our HL is way ahead of the game, but I sure am glad they are. I'm sure the rest are close behind.

We also went to several TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and Homegoods stores but they didn't have any Fall items out. Hopefully soon.
