DAYS TO HALLOWEEN: 3

Good Morning Halloween Friends! 3 big days remain until OUR DAY. It's the Halloweekend. It's here now. And It's going to be a great one.

I hope I see Michael and Jason on TV this weekend, hopefully in marathon sessions. I have told this story many times, but around here, Michael Myers and Dr. Loomis are almost the "ambassadors" to Christmas. Because when you see them on TV, "Christmas Season" is not far away. Last year, the "Halloween" marathon on AMC ran all the way through November 1st, so I was putting up Christmas decorations here at home with Michael on the TV. It felt odd but good, since Halloween is such a big part of our Christmas buildup.

Let's finish Spooky Season strong, guys! 3 days remain! Have a great day!

I borrowed your Halloweekend phrase @SolidSnake84 over in the Holiday Hangout. It is a great catchy phrase.

Now on to the final push to Halloween.
Not mine lol. I’m pretty sure Edge coined it, but he said he heard it from somewhere else lol. Either way, I think it will forever be a word in our Halloween thread lol.

Lol. Well thank you then @Edge612.

Everyone comes up with great names/phrase for the special holiday/seasonal/milestones in here I use and enjoy all them.

I want to thank you @SolidSnake84. You have firmly planted and cultivated an awesome Halloween thread two years in a row. I was just looking back over the last few Halloween threads and what you have done with it is amazing. Before you came along it was just a few hundred posts of mostly pictures. Now we have over 2000 posts this year with interactive content, discussions, and sharing our love of Halloween. Thank you my friend for enriching this site and our lives.

Oh gosh, thank you so much for the kind words! It makes me so happy to hear that. I want to keep it going as long as I can, and as long as there is interest. We have slowly grown our audience over the past two years and I am really excited to see how we grow “next year”.

But before we do that, we have to finish out strong these next 3 days! But thank you again for the kind words!

I agree with @Rich, the Halloween Thread is awesome! Thanks, @SolidSnake84!.

And to whomever coined "Halloweekend"... you're the best!

DAYS TO HALLOWEEN: 2

Good Morning Halloween friends. First day of the Halloweekend! I'm still just mesmerized by this low single digits count. Just 2 days remain.

I saw it mentioned earlier above, that every year it feels like we fall more in love with Halloween season. I can definitely agree. I can remember when it wasn't that long ago that Halloween was sort of just like a day on the calendar for me. I loved the Holiday but I just celebrated it "that day". And then four or five years ago, I realized how much of an important role Halloween season plays in the eventual transition over to Christmas season.

And look at us now. We've got our own yearly thread, five "special days" across the off-season throughout the year to honor Fall & Halloween, and an entire "Spooky Spring" that leads us to "Halfoween". I couldn't be more happy. And sometimes thoughts come to me of what can I do to add a little "more". Those thoughts will come organically I'm sure when its time.

I won't wax on much more, that is going to be for tomorrow when I do the "reflection / recap" part of the thread and list my hopes and wishes for 2023. That way on Monday, we can all focus on just enjoying the amazing day of Halloween, before we tie a ribbon on the 22' Thread and launch the NEW Halloween thread on Monday night.

Have a great day friends!

Good morning!

It is a nice cool, yet bright, morning here. Henry is having some friends over this evening to watch some Halloween shows and maybe enjoy a fire in our new firepit. It should be a nice chilly evening for a fire.

Yesterday we watched Halloween Ends. I had heard a lot of negative things about the movie, but I thought it was pretty good. Not exactly how I would have written the movie, but good nonetheless.

This morning I watched a compilation of old Halloween commercials from the 70s and 80s. I really enjoy watching the old commercials. I really think the commercials from that era were better than modern commercials. I am sure some of that is just nostalgia, but I try to be more objective about it and I just think today's commercials try to hard and end up missing the point. Anyway, it was a fun ride down memory lane.

The Haunted House themed 4th birthday party was great! The weather was perfect. The only bummer was that none of their friends with kids were able to come, one family is battling something that looks like Hand, Foot, and Mouth but the doctor says isn't but they can't get it to clear up. The poor little guy is in so much discomfort he peed on the couch because he couldn't get himself to get up. The other family, the dad is in the hospital at 35 years old with what they believe is an undiagnosed hole in his heart. So sad.

DAYS TO HALLOWEEN: 1

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Today is the last day of the "Halloweekend", and I'm going to try and have more fun than I did yesterday. Because tomorrow is OUR DAY. The day that we wait for, and count down towards 365 days a year.

Warning - Today is a long read, I like doing the "reflection" post that I started doing late this season as part of normal "month end", and the preview for the upcoming month, but this one is extra special because it is basically our "year end review" and I hope to share my hopes and wishes for the 2023 Season / Thread.

I feel like we kept the Halloween / Fall spirit alive all year long, this thread was a part of that, but I feel like this was supplemented by Edge's excellent "The Bers" thread, and of course the Thanksgiving thread. Bonus points awarded for every time we would delve into a Halloween or Fall topic in the "Daily Holiday Hangout". Anyway, it takes a village, and we delivered.

I enjoyed Jack O Lantern Days even more this year than I did last year. I had a feeling this might happen as I was able to incorporate more and more activities into them, just like I have done over the years with Rudolph Days. And at least in my mind, having a JOL Day even able to be compared to Rudolph Day is an amazing thing. I don't have any doubt that 2023 will continue this trend.

Dark Arts Sundays - I had no issues here whatsoever. Always fun, I always love seeing HP on the TV, I always get Halloween vibes!

We have slowly grown the thread audience here. I have no expectation whatsoever that we will ever have as much of a presence as the "main" countdown thread. The simple fact is, we are on a 24/7 Christmas site, and there are FAR MORE Christmas fans (like myself) than there are Fall/Halloween-ites. And that's a good thing, because we are a niche group of folks. I expect "attendance" to slowly grow until we probably eventually "peak". Which is fine. Quality over Quantity.

I do have two "regrets" for this year that I want to share now. First of all, by the time we found out that "Spooky Spring" was a thing, I think we were all about a week and a half to two weeks into April. And Edge had pointed out earlier this year that April was the mirror edge of October. It's really true. So my regret for that is not jumping on Spooky Spring right at the beginning. But it's firmly entrenched now in our "lineup", so counting down to it will be pretty fun and being able to jump right in on April 1st is going to be awesome.

My second regret, and I have to be honest about this one - is that because of the stress and worry about our pregnancy, I was really only about 70 - 80% mentally here on most of our milestone days and celebrations. Even my beloved JOL Days. Our journey started in February and ended on October 11th. Part of being a Dad I think means always worrying a little about everything, but by the time my major fears and worries had ceased, it was already two weeks into October nearly. I have tried to make up for lost time since then. And I can tell you honestly today that I think I am going to be EVEN MORE excited for everything next year since most of my horrible worries are in the rear view mirror at this point.

In closing up, I have just a few wishes for 2023:

  1. I want to continue to grow the audience here (all are welcome!)
  2. I want to continue to "beef up" JOL Days
  3. I want to continue with at least once a week having our "Fall / Halloween Thought", which we did last year and I think we are doing basically the same thing in the Thanksgiving Thread.
  4. I want to include "Spooky Spring" on the countdowns when it comes time to put up ALL of the main countdowns again (After Christmas)

I think that's a pretty easy list. Basically just keep the cruise control on because I think everybody in here has contributed to a great environment. So thank you to everybody for making it awesome in here. I look forward to continuing our "work" together in the 2023 countdown!

Have a great day!
