My name is David Giles, currently live 45 minutes north of Atlanta, GA but have lived in Kansas, North Dakota, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida but most of my life in North Carolina - Charlotte, Raleigh and triad area around Greensboro. I work as a graphic artist for a company who supplies the welding industry, although I have a PhD in Criminology from Florida State Unviersity. Have taught college level for 3 years before finding I REALLY did not want to be there. I have been making and designing Christmas ornaments since 1976 and have well over 400 designs to my name.

The smallest ornament could fit on my thumb nail, the largest was over 36 inches tall, 24 inches across and was made as an Attnetion Getter for when I sold ornaments at Craft Faires. I had set it up and was in the process of setting the rest of my booth up when an Interior Designer asked how much. I named a price which I thought would insure no sale and was asked if I would take a check. I looked to the person who I was sharing the space with and asked if his Tranz unit did checks as well as credit cards, he told me "yes" and I sold the piece. Made enough to cover the cost of the ornament as well as pay for the booth fees for the show. My most expensive ornament would be the ball gown I made for my best friend's wife - it was a 6-spoked ball gown done in gold setting with over 300 - 4mm amethyst standard round brillant gems and 6 - 5x8mm pear shaped drops. Took almost a year to finish as I had to handset each stone.

My main media currently are: beads, wire, and miniature ornaments, but I have worked in fabric, fibre, wood, arcylic sheet, plastic beads, glass beads, stained glass, gemstones, metal, and wire. Being ADHD (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder) and OCD (Obcessive Compulsive Disorder) does have it's advantages. I can start on a group of ornaments and even though I may get bored doing them, the OCD won't let me stop until I have finished them.

Any other questions, just ask.

David
