Hello my name is Nikolai. I reside in Canada with my wife, in a little town called Morinville, just north of the capital city of Edmonton in the province of Alberta. Needless to say we seldom if ever experience a Christmas that is anything but white.
laying:
I love Christmas and am fond of reveling in it all year long be it through movies, iphone apps, or books: Much to the ribbing of my wife and huge family
:
Christmas is a sacred time of year for us and being Ukrainian Orthodox Christians we celebrate Christ's birth on January 7th of the western Calendar which is our December 25 in Slavic countries which follow the Julian Calendar. Since half of our friends are not Orthodox we get to celebrate Christmas twice, December 25 and January 7th!
Another benefit to Orthodox Christmas is it coincides with the priest's annual visit to bless the house, which takes place after Theophany and as such, our tradition (which may differ from other Orthodox traditions) is that you do not take down your Christmas tree until the priest visits. For those of you whom are unfamiliar with our traditions Theophany is celebrated On January 19th of the Western (Gregorian) calendar.
I look forward to reading other peoples traditions and am excited that I found people who love Christmas as much as I do.
God Bless you all and you experience the joy of Christmas all year long!
