As a purely off-season diversion and because I know we have plenty of opinionated folks as well as some profoundly musical geniuses amongst us, I am pleased to announce the opening of MMC's Official American Idol Thread.

Couple of rules here:

1. There really aren't any rules.
2. No bashing someone's opinion. If Jay wants to drool over the "bimbo 'o the season", humor him.
3. There really aren't any rules.

Let's start this off with a rhetorical question:

David Hernandez, who made the little girls in my house blanche even before his former gainful employment was made public, was the first to be tossed from the Top 12.

Do you think it was because he was revealed to be such a sleaze?

First of all...I resemble that remark...Secondly...I think the kids may have been thrown by his past...I also think that he never "connected" with the audience the way some of the others have (at the risk of sounding like Paula!). His last performance was, as Simon so aptly put it, A MESS!!! I figured it was him, and not just because Kristi flirts with me through the TV screen either...Kristi is a good singer inside that very distracting outside...I think, if she's given the chance, you may see her improve greatly!!! She won't win, but she's better than she's been...

Back to David for a moment...His performance made me cringe, but not as much as Elfie's favorite guy singing "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" did...I had eye cramps, I was rolling them so much...

I like her...but back in the beginning when she was singing Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart", I was singing along with her only I was singing "Take another little piece of my eardrum baby..."

If the show were American "I look like the child of Ray Romano and David Copperfield" - David H would have rocked. I don't think it has anything to do with his past. If it did, no one would make it through except Brooke (she's never even seen a rated R movie).

She is such a breath of fresh air, that one...so genuine! Boy can she NOT dance though...Did you see that number that opened last nights show? Suddenly she became the whitest person in America!!!

David really messed up the other night so they did the right thing by voting him out last night. As they said maybe it was to much pressure for him to handle right now.

I was never sold on Mr. Magic Pants. I didn't think he belonged in the Top 12. Too many other guys with obvious talent that could overcome his looks. And, for a dancer, he wasn't much of a dancer, you know.

Jay -- do me a favor, just once: listen to Kristi Lee with you eyes closed. Yeah, I know. Usually you do just the opposite. But try it once.

Gotta tell you, in my house, David Archuletta can do no wrong (especially amonst my four youngest daughters). Of course, he's a local boy and my girls could be biased.

Is anyone else tiring of the whole Ryan-Simon feuds?

They fight for the ratings. From what I understand, they are actually friendly off the show.

Jay...from the moment I first saw David H. I said it was like watching Ray Romano's younger brother...then there was a shot of him working his eyebrows that made him look like David Copperfield.

i think little david arch is just the most adorable thing EVER!!! he is one of those who doesnt have to win AI as people are gonna be beating down his door to sign him to stuff!!

personal faves are david cook, jason castro and carly smithson
next up is michael johns, david archuletta and amanda. after that, i dont much care one way or the other.

I see your point...I harken back to when she sang Amazing Grace in her audition and she was really good...But you're right...since then it has been less than stellar...I'm really just teasing about her...I do think that David Archuletta has so much maturity and he is such a natural up there...It actually crossed my mind that he threw last week just to make the show a little more interesting trusting that he'd be kept because he is the front runner...Risky at best for most contestants but I don't see him leaving very soon, if at all...I was a big fan of Star Search in the early eighties for the same reasons that I love this show...Back then a guy named Sam Harris was supposed to be the next big star...I can tell by the silence that most people have never even heard of him...Such is the state of celebrity in our fair country...People like Paris Hilton and Lyndsey Lohan are famous for doing dumb things and showing up at parties and real talents fade away like yesterdays paper...

Long live Idol!!!
