I have long been a collector of Christmas past. I had a collection of over 200 boxed light sets from various decades. Last weekend I stopped in a little antique shop in Tecumseh, MI and while browsing - found on a top shelf, pushed back and covered with dust -a wooden box. I pulled it down and discovered that it had paper labels depicting Christmas scenes. I bought it for $18.00. When I got it home I carefully wiped down the paper labels and researched the box. It was made in 1903 and held the first strings of lights available to the public. There are no lights in the box. My question is.... what is the value of this antique? It has a sliding wood door at the top and the labels are in good shape. I now have t on display in the den. Can someone give me more info about my antique Christmas find???

I wish I could help you on the value, but that really sounds like a great find. Have you thought about taking to an antique shop to see what they think?

Sounds like a cool find, although I'm not qualified to help you with it. Maybe you could post a link to a picture of it?

BTW, welcome to MMC! cheesy

I have no idea of what they might be worth -- but I'd bet is has great value, looking back on the history of Christmas lights. I'd hang on to them, keeping them in as good a shape as possible. Time to call Antique Roadshow!

Sounds pretty cool. I love vintage Christmas stuff. I will send a message to you of another Christmas site that might have a better idea of it's value. I'd check some of my books I have on collecting but it's hard to tell what you have without a picture.

sounds like a great find....and a great collection of lights...I can only join the others in saying to go to another antiq store or two or three and let them all tell U what they think the worth of it is
