• Operation Christmas Cheer
This week Halloween will still get its due, but Thanksgiving is not too far from my mind. I've already started thinking about my mac and cheese recipe for this year and what blend of cheeses I'll use.

Heck, I've already started thinking about "Halfsgiving" next year and wondering if I should go ahead and buy an extra turkey for that. I'm going to go broke buying all these turkeys...
I have been thinking a lot about the Thanksgiving menu this week. And for the first time mac and cheese is going to be added to the menu this year. I will be smoking some items this year so i figured would throw some in the smoker too. I smoke some a couple times over the summer and everybody loves it so i figured it would not be to much trouble to add. I did not even think about it for Thanksgiving until seeing others on here having it on their menu.

For Easter I made a lobster mac & cheese and it's been requested for Thanksgiving. I put all kinds of sharp cheese and sour cream in it. I don't even want to know how much saturated fat it has but I know on Thanksgiving it really doesn't matter.

Looks like the prices are only a little bit higher than if you made them yourself especially when you factor in the time.
I did a quick estimate and I think I could buy the groceries to make a meal comparable to the Glazed Ham meal for 4 fo4r about $45 dollars, so approximately $15 to not shop, prep, or clean up after cooking. I am going to look around for turkeys and price them, but I think I may be tempted again this year to go with a Heat at Home meal.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 30
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 7

Happy Later October! Today folks we have 30 days remaining until Thanksgiving and 7 days to go until November. Our next milestone will be on Thursday which will be Tom Turkey Day #11. It will be our final one so be here for it please. It’s Tuesday so if you have any pictures you’d like to share please feel free. I am thinking maybe a picture of a big turkey? I think this time of year is so great to see how we’re building towards our ultimate goal. I was thinking yesterday how as much as I love the Halloween Season and Christmas Season that for one day of the entire year being the “best day” of the year overall is Thanksgiving to me. And how I’m lucky to have a thread here dedicated all year to it with great people helping me help to boost it and enjoy it all year long. I hope you all are enjoying the early stages of your week so far. And I hope you are having a good time even if you’re working like I am. Thinking about that big break next month which is our favorite time of year too. It will be, of course, the big Thanksgiving one. But right now we’re still hanging out in October and as I always say to you don’t rush it. I really loved my Haunted Houses of Halloween Sunday so if you’re a fan of such things check out the Hang Out on Wednesday for a review/report of it. It was unlike any event I really ever attended. For you turkey fans keep it all good today on Tuesday, post a picture if you’d like and feel free to comment on how you have (or have not) enjoyed this thread this year so far. Have a great Later October!

We're just 30 days out now! Turkey Day will be here before we know it!

Here is the "Thanksgiving" wallflower that I got last year after Thanksgiving because it was on sale, and I have only used it for a few Tom Turkey Days!

I can't wait to plug this thing in on Thursday, and let it run up until Thanksgiving!

Have a great day!

Wow! Just 30 days now. Tomorrow we reach the twenties in the countdown. Holy smoke!

Easy marinade:
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons minced garlic
Salt and pepper to taste
Marinade at least 1.5 hours and grill. Works great on mule deer and elk steaks if you can get them.
I'm going to be using this next time I grill. Thanks, CW!

I don't think there's anyone here who has NOT enjoyed this thread, and if there is, then what are they still doing here? :p

What I like about this thread is that it's like one big Thanksgiving party, all year long. It really gets me hyped for the big day, especially during the "dark times" from January - March.

I usually make two meats for Thanksgiving. Here is one of my turkeys. I use fresh sage and rosemary soaked in olive oil and butter and stuff it under the skin. Then I stuff the bird with cut apples and oranges and baste it every 15 minutes with homemade turkey bone broth.

This year I'll have a tenderloin beef roast that I'll make a red wine and shallot au jus and serve with a horseradish sauce. I'll cook it medium rare. If people want it cooked more, they can nuke it.....to my horror.

I only have one oven now. I'm used to two ovens and an induction cooktop so I'll be juggling around quite a bit to get things done. I also have only one microwave but it has conduction cooking so I can switch it up as needed.

I made progress over the past two days. I made lemon cake which is already frozen and a batch of c chip cookies and my Pina Colada cookies, both frozen (dough.)

This thread gets me in the spirit when it would be easier to just watch TV and forget about gratitude.
