• Operation Christmas Cheer
I made another grocery run today and Publix was overflowing with turkeys. Not many people seemed to have them in their carts. Maybe they ordered early like I did. Our church asked us to get gift cards for the food bank this year plus buy gravy in the bottle and veggies in cans. They are thinking so many people are homeless, they won't be buying an uncooked turkey but will be able to order a Thanksgiving dinner from the grocery store. Publix is very good about having enough staff the day before to fill all the orders on time.

I appreciate and like most of my family but there is a saying "You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family." And yet sometimes you feel obligated to be with people you don't want to be with or don't get along with.
I am blessed to have family I really enjoy being around. And yes, we have some who are crazy, some who are quirky and some like me who are just plaing weird.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 18

Happy November Sunday! Today folks we have 18 days remaining until Thanksgiving. That’s a good number of days still isn’t it? 18 is a lot folks. It’s like 5% of the year still. That’s a big chunk. I know…that also means 95% of the Thanksgiving Year is gone. Our next milestone will be the final one as we reach the Home Stretch Till Thanksgiving. It will be 1 full week from Monday. Lots of time to go for that. But folks you might want to be here these next 2 weeks. And we’ll really talk about Thanksgiving a lot while giving you the daily count. Gearing everything up. I really am trying to dig my heels in to the ground right now to stop time and freeze it. I don’t want us to get there yet. I want to enjoy the build with all of you first. And we’ve been doing it for a long time now but still have 2+ weeks to go. Let’s enjoy it together. And as I’ve mentioned let me know what you like about this thread (or don’t like). We seem to have 4 days now of special stuff (Mon – Thu) and then a quiet Friday-Sunday. Maybe we should keep it like that. Let’s see how things go as we move ahead in our Awesome Autumn. And look ahead like turkey fans do while still enjoying this time of the year. I l am so excited for the next 2 weeks folks. I hope you are also. We’re here. Have a great November Sunday!

I enjoy this thread so much, and I love the special stuff that brightens so many ho-hum weekdays, I am always game for more, but for me, I like having Friday-Sunday as a buffer in case I fall behind during the week. I try to visit everyday but when I miss a day (or two) I like having the time over the weekend to go back and read everyone's posts. I haven't been sure on the etiquette on how many days is too late to post a response. Other than that I am so grateful to have this thread and am especially looking forward to the next two weeks!

I confirmed Friday the market has received their standing rib roast but won't put it out until they go on sale. Now that I know what size I need I'll get it as soon as they're available, freezing if necessary. In case anybody was wondering our prime rib is a standing rib roast opposed to getting actual prime rib. The wife and boy like their roast to be on the well done side so it's not worth spending the extra money to get the prime rib. The final product taste great anyway.

I really enjoy this thread. Really helps me miss / honor / appreciate the Fall and the "Ber months" all year long. I don't think the site would be complete without them. I mean that honestly.

I'm getting a distinctly Thanksgiving vibe now finally, especially since the winds moved in yesterday and took out what was left of the fall foliage. The leaves will all be gone probably by the end of the week.

Have a great Sunday!

My great turkey thaw always ends up being last minute. No matter how long I figure it will take..it always needs 2 days longer than I have. I end up floating them in cold water just so I can brine them the day before.
Yeah, I don't know what reality the individuals who put the thaw time in the instructions live in, but not the one where I live!

I think it is good to have a break...instead of every day having a theme. Fri-Sun is really weekend time. Those 3 days feel different. I think Mon-Thu needs more of the special stuff that we've added this year.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 17

Happy Week Into November! Today folks we have 17 days remaining until Thanksgiving. We have NO milestones this week. The next one will be one week from today when we reach the Home Stretch Till Thanksgiving. We move along in our Awesome Autumn and talk about our Weekly Countdown Till Thanksgiving Week. And it stands at 2 weeks. Amazing. 2 folks. That would be only 1 more than 1 in case you aren’t great at math. But it is incredible to say it. It’s incredible to know it’s true. It’s incredible to be here with all of you and be able to say hey this is the time of year we live for. And I’m glad you’ve been here counting down on Mondays with me all thread long. We still got a little more room to go. And we’ll try to drag out this week as much as we possibly can. I know all of you probably want it to go as slow as possible. I’m with all of you on that feeling. It’s the time of year we want to freeze as much as we can and get the most out of it. 2 weeks folks. Let’s enjoy the ride to Thanksgiving Week. And let’s all be happy that we’re in the month of November which truly is this amazing and monumental month that we’re all enjoying together here this year. I’m thankful for that. Turkey day is still 2.5 weeks away. Let’s enjoy the fact we’re not there yet. Let’s enjoy where we are right now at this point in time. Have a great Week Into November!

The countdowns here always amaze me. Two weeks to Thanksgiving. Wow. Just Wow. I noticed it back in October, I think once we got out of the hospital, somehow time had just grabbed another gear. And to think, when it becomes Monday again, we will be talking about what we will be eating "next week". !!!

Have a great Monday!

It is time for some of the final preparations. Like getting everything we need from the grocery. We were going to do that this past weekend, but Michelle wasn't feeling well. Gotta get it done this week.
