Community. That one word means so many things to people that it's really hard to define. The attempt to be part of a community has been one of the most sought after comforts of our time. It has been written that the rising levels of gang membership can even be attributed to the need for community.

I write today with a heavy heart. One of the communities that I have been a part of has seemingly vanished. I'm referring to Christmas.com. I've visited there daily for almost four years. I count members there as friends. I've developed email and phone friendships with some of them. And while I certainly will find the community of Christmas fanatics elsewhere, and certainly many of the former members will join up here and on other forums, the loss of that community has me somewhat sad.

In many ways, the loss that I feel is a positive. It means that I was part of something. I was a member of the group, a part of the community. And that knowledge is comforting. Life changes, often times it changes and then changes again before you've had time to get used to the first change. I accept that change is a necessity, and a reality, and I try to accept it.

I'm glad that Jeff and the good folks at the merry forums are here! And I hope to become part of this community as well!

Jay

Jay,

We certainly welcome you! As I am sure you will find for most folks here, the Spirit of christmas is what we hold in common. I'm hoping the Christmas.com is not a permanent loss. Something tells me that down the road it will re-emerge and perhaps it will be better.

In the mean time, thanks for coming here! We look forward to getting to know you and sharing Christmas with you and yours.

Jeff

:-) Hi Jay ~ check your email, buddy - you will find a copy of the email I sent to Keith Basil (connected to Christmas.com) to find out if it the forums are gone for good.

I have been posting off and on there for three years and I completely understand that sense of profound loss.

I tried to give myself a pep-talk this morning "out of something bad comes something good", but right now it doesn't seem to help with the "ouch".

Jayish - you write so well. I remember Christmas.com as being the first forum I came across.

Thanks for sharing your heart.

Jaish: welcome to your new Christmas family.Thank you for shareing. I hope you will feel as at home here as you did there. :-D
