Look how thick (and clear) that ice is!
This is a giant lake in Russia. The water is so clear there that the ice is clear too. So clear that you can look through the ice and see the bottom of the lake. (I've seen videos of it on Weather Gone Viral)

We're getting snow right now but it might change to freezing rain later. I wouldn't mind if it changed to rain instead.

You're in New England. We usually get your weather, here in the Maritimes, hours after you, as storms move up the Eastern seaboard.
