That is the plan, unless I am notified otherwise by MMC Staff to not post a 2021 Halloween countdown thread. I intended on posting it at 12:00AM on November 1st, 2020. I do not know specifically if that responsibility falls to a certain member / staff member, etc. My "Celebrating Jack O Lantern Day" thread will continue to be a running thread, i will not create a new one when 2021 arrives.

I too hope you keep the thread running in 2021. I don't always post, but I always read.

As a big Stephen King fan, I like both the movie Christine and the novel! I have been into scary stuff / horror movies all of my life. I got it from my mother, who is the same way! It is a heck of an interest, considering how much time I devote to 24/7 Christmas.
On the topic of scary movies, Netflix's "Haunting of Bly Manor" drops today (I think). Did anybody see the first series "The Haunting of Hill House"? That was scary good!

I am going to, no worries! We have 22 days to go on "this" Halloween season, but the wheels in my mind are already turning and over the next week or so, I will draft a post, that contains all pertinent information with milestone dates and such, so that when the clock strikes midnight, and it's November 1st, the new thread is ready to go.

I feel, and have always believed, that Halloween is part of so many people's Christmas countdown, and Christmas routine, it is precisely why i launched Jack O Lantern Day earlier in the year. Because I realized that while i spend all year happily counting down to Christmas Season, i am missing Fall / Halloween just as much! And i know i am not alone in that feeling.

So, no need to get ahead of ourselves, we still have almost a whole month left, but It does make me happy to see the interest for continuing the thread, and continuing this happy countdown!

I just saw a Kitkat Halloween commercial. Love it!

***20 DAYS LEFT***

20 days now is all that separates us from Halloween, and for some people (myself included) the last Holiday to observe before putting up the Christmas decorations!

How is everybody's Halloween season going so far? For those who have decorated, are all of your decorations up? Do you have more to do? We are as decorated as we are going to get this Halloween, with our jack o lanterns outside, and the lights on the bushes. There has been weekends where I have contemplated adding more outside decor, but I think it will be more fun to grow the collection over several years like I did with our Christmas decor.

"Dark Arts Sundays" on SyFy today, so Harry Potters are playing this evening. I plan on watching as much of them as I can. Since i've only seen Harry Potter #2, i've decided that in 2021 I will watch all of them in order. I know they have a lot of fans out there. What would you think of doing our own "Dark Arts Sunday" in 2021 as part of Jack O Lantern Day? It won't be on each 31st, but I'm considering devoting a few hours on a special Sunday (Or, calendar wise, the Sunday closest to the 31st) here and there across our Five Jack O Lantern Days of 2021.

So, on the month(s) we choose this, It will be a stand-alone small "special" feature in addition to our regularly scheduled Jack O Lantern Day. So for example, IF we were to do this in March of 2021, Sunday the 28th would be "Dark Arts Sunday", and then we would have our normal Jack O Lantern day a few days later! This makes me think of the TV schedules that are announced in advance as part of a lead up to a Holiday! Anyway, i'm just daydreaming here this morning. Let's enjoy the remainder of our 2020 Halloween season, we've got plenty of time to work out tiny details for next year! I'm open to all feedback, even criticism!

You know, it's a funny thing how I've been enjoying everyone else's decorations, but I don't really have any Halloween decorations of my own! We have a few Halloween specific things we put out each year (some window clings, a ghost candy dish, a ghost lamp, and some Halloween-themed coffee mugs), but we haven't added to the collection or decorated the outside of our house in years. We have mostly Fall themed decorations that we keep up through November.

I think next year I'll actually spring for some true Halloween decorations and deck out the whole outside of my house. It's time.

***19 Days to go**

We are almost at the mid-point of October. I don't want to wish it away just yet. This month is a favorite of mine, and has a special place in the whole Christmas Build Up Routine. As i always say, we can acknowledge that Halloween passes the torch to Christmas Season, while still having its separate and awesome own identity!

**18 Days to Go**

I think today's subject should be "dud" movies that are included as part of cable TV's Halloween programming.

Last year I complained that some of the networks were running "ordinary" movies as part of their Halloween marathon lineups, like "Spider Man", or "Independence Day". It always annoys me to see stuff like that, and I am confused at the circumstances that lead to "regular" movies being included as part of the special feature.

SyFy, while having a great lineup so far this season, included the "Back to the Future" films. Great movies on their own, but HOW are they remotely considered Halloween-ish?

Thankfully things get back to business tonight with Zombieland on SYFY, and Ghost Ship, and Friday the 13th(2009) on AMC!

I think someone in this thread mentioned that the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy was being aired soon as part of a Halloween programming block. While I love those movies, I had to think to myself, "Why?" I guess you can argue the point that Sauron and the orcs are creepy and Halloween-adjacent, but that just seems like a stretch. Lord of the Rings doesn't even remotely remind me of Halloween.

I also noticed that this time of the year is when game shows like to run prime time specials, like "The Price is Right at Night" or bringing back "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" for a one-time special presentation. I've always wondered why that is as well.

One more tidbit: Even though ABC has yet to formally announce when they will air "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" this year, I noticed they have two open programming gaps - one on October 22 and another on October 27, both at 7 p.m. If I were a betting man, I'd say that those dates and timeslots are likely when we'll get to see Charlie Brown get a rock this year.

I get a distinctly more Thanksgiving vibe from "Lord of the Rings", but that is only because for the entire time i have been part of the family, my in-laws watch the Lord of The Rings all the way through over Thanksgiving.

I have mentioned before in here how much I have been loving SyFy's "Dark Arts Sundays" as a fairly NEWB to the Harry Potter series and subsequent spinoffs. I get a distinctly Halloween feel from them, which makes much more sense as we are talking witches, magic, etc.... But the more i think about those "vibes", the more I am coming to believe that they are just magic holiday vibes in general. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and especially Christmas, is a time where in general people are away from work, spending a large amount of time at home, and in general the whole family is together. So sitting down for a block programming feature seems much more "holiday-like", than it would if they were to schedule a marathon on a random Tuesday or non-important weekend, where people would be much less likely to tune in.

**17 DAYS**

We have reached the mid-point of October. I do feel it is going by too quickly, but I think if we are all honest with ourselves, we will agree that this tends to happen during "Fun Times", and these last 4 months of the year, in my opinion, are the most fun times of all. But it's not over yet. We still have the second half of this month to enjoy.

I am trying to soak in as much as I can on Halloween-related TV programming, because I know how it feels to miss this time, this special 4 month window where there is just magic in the air everywhere. But we are nowhere close to that time yet. There's still lots to enjoy!!

Tonight on AMC, there is "Trick R Treat", which is one of my personal favorites, and "Pumpkinhead", which is a movie that scared me to death when i was a little kid!!

**16 Days**

The Conjuring, and 13 Ghosts are on AMC Tonight. Outstanding movies, both of them.

SYFY is having another what I call "Dud night", playing Shrek two times in a row. Again, a good movie, but nothing even remotely Halloween or Scary.

Love that idea! You should definitely do it. :)

Today marks 15 DAYS until Halloween!

Tonight will also be the first night that is cold enough to where we can run our furnace. I have been excited all day to come home, turn it on after dinner, and relax on the couch with our Halloween movies playing in the background!

Halloween:H20, and Halloween, are on AMC tonight. Must watch for both!!

**14 Days** are all that stands between us and Halloween Day now. On another level, it is the last stretch of time before many of us, myself included, will switch their houses and decorations over to Christmas stuff! Folks, it has been hard to contain that kind of excitement without feeling like I am being unfair to Halloween, but I have always felt that in my world, Halloween realizes that it is a formal gatekeeper to the Christmas Season. All Holidays cooperate with each other as they realize their individual significance while being part of a grander goal!

Tonight on AMC is again Halloween H:20, and the original Halloween. Even though they played those last night, I don't care, they are two great movies, with the original Halloween being an all-time classic!

Amen. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas go hand in hand, with Christmas being the endgame. But each holiday is significant, and I can't imagine celebrating one without the others!
