Cold Hard Cash for Christmas may seen like a germy thing of the past. But for the boys of Home Free, it’s what is wanted for Christmas:

Home Free is at their best when they two things: not taking themselves too seriously and leaning on the harmonies of the high range. They do both quite successfully in this light, festive number.

Austin’s lead vocals coupled with Rob’s sweet tenor just blend so well in nearly everything they produce. There is such range with Home Free that sometimes to emphasis on the incredible bass of Tim Foust gets a lot of the spotlight. But make no mistake: Austin leads the group and he’s anchor by the out-of-this-world vocal gymnastics of Adam Rupp.

Home Free needs to focus more on original Christmas music like this. We appreciate the standards and they always have a place. We have enjoyed all they have produced Christmas-wise the past several years. But we feel their greatest Christmas album is yet to come and it will be one that exploits all of their many talents.

According to an article in People the video shoot for this song was the first the group could do in person together during the course of the pandemic. Home Free has been one of the more successful groups to keep producing during these challenging times.

Their music has been light, fun and perfect to escape with during a period of great stress for many people. Their new Christmas album, Warmest Winter, is completely secular Christmas music, which is somewhat of a departure and a fact that, frankly, disappoints.

Perhaps they felt their stronger Christmas messaging of recent years in songs such as How Great Thou Art, Children Go Where I Send Thee or Angels We Have Heard On High needed a rest this year.

Nevertheless we continue to be well entertained by the tight vocals and high musical standards of Home Free and we feel they are greatly overlooked by other a capella ensembles who for whatever reason get all the press.
