• Tracking Santa Around the World
Agreed, getting out of the first week of January is always a great achievement. This is a long month, but it hasn't been putting up much of a fight....so far.

January also has its own pace of time, not too fast, not too slow, but slow enough to feel long. I don't get this vibe from any other month.

The weather man announced today that January 10th is usually the coldest point in our winter and that the averages start to improve after that, seems hard to believe since January and February seem so much colder than December, but maybe that is more to do with my mood! LOL!

This year the NHL opens their season in January. Hockey will entertain me for a few months.
I can't wait. I need some hockey. NOW!

I am just glad we have avoided most of the bitterly cold weather so far. I think its worse when you have no snow but its 10° outside and the wind is blowing. Add some snow and you can sort of endure it with some holiday time thoughts.
Oh yeah definitely CW. Those bitterly cold temps with wind make it horrible. I'm glad we have avoided it (thus far). Let's see how long we can do that for!

I believe in my area it's in late January and then the averages start to rise slowly. To be honest in recent years I've noticed a difference once we hit Valentine's Day. The 2nd half of February it doesn't seem to be as horrible. The sun feels a little warmer. It's a little lighter out in the late afternoon/early evening. Things seem to get better.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 320
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 296
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 235

Happy Winter Weekend! Yeah we're into the weekend again and this is weekend #2 of the year. But we don't count weekends here. We count 3 other things: 320 days till Thanksgiving, 296 days till November, and 235 days till The Bers. You know in 19 days we'll see Tom Turkey Day #2! And then the day after that we'll see the 300 Day Marker to Thanksgiving. Wow that will be big indeed. But we got plenty of January to go before we can reach those markers and I'm ok with that. Enjoy the slowness of January as much as you can. Things start going too fast later in the year. I love the freshness of a new year. It's been enjoyable so far. We have normal January type weather here this weekend. Nothing crazy but nothing like spring either. I hope you all enjoy your time and think a few times about Thanksgiving while you're going about your business this weekend. Have a great Winter Weekend!

Same thing in my area. It should be FRIGID cold here by now, but it hasn't happened. The guys on weather.com predict the long range January forecast to be warmer than average for our area, and they have been right so far. This weekend it gets into the mid 40's both today and tomorrow, and all of this week it reaches nearly 50 degrees every day of the week.

I have always felt that here (Northern Virginia) if you can get through January without having horrible cold weather, you are just about through it. We get some snow generally in February and have to fight the cold for a few weeks, but generally by March the weather has broken and it is inching up warm again. So I'm optimistic. I am about 50 days out now from spreading grass seed / fertilizer, thatching, etc....

Have a great Saturday everybody!

Va. has changed its weather alot since the early 80's. Used to get alot of snow in the winter, now its freezing rain and a few inches most of the time. Most places below D.C. dont even have plows anymore.

Yeah I notice from DC on south it's like rare to see a lot of snow. We'll see though. There is always the chance someone gets a real "big one" out of nowhere!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 319
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 295
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 234

Happy Double Digits January! Well folks here we are completing today the first full week of the new year. And we complete it with the following 3 countdowns: 319 days till Thanksgiving, 295 days till November, and 234 days till The Bers. Those are the stats this Sunday morning. And the next milestone will be Tom Turkey Day which happens in 2 weeks and 4 days time. The day after that is going to be another big milestone and that will be the 300 Day Marker to Thanksgiving. Back to Back Milestones to follow these next 2-3 weeks here. Pretty awesome way to enjoy January here in the Thanksgiving Thread. Here we enjoy all times of the year. But we do know our favorite is gobble gobble time. That's such an exciting time. And I keep thinking how that really changed everything and brought us everything we love the most including the very recently passed Christmas Season. Have a great Double Digits January!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 318
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 294
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 233

Happy Winter Weather! It's a new week folks and you know what that means. We do our weekly countdown to the best week of the year: Thanksgiving Week! We'll get to that in a moment after our daily counts. We have 318 days till Thanksgiving, 294 days till November, and 233 days till The Bers. Our next milestone is in 17 days when we reach Tom Turkey Day #2, and the following day we reach the 300 Day Marker to Thanksgiving. Back to Back big milestones are ahead of us in latter January. Our weekly count to Thanksgiving Week now stands at 45 weeks. Wasn't it just 50? Now we have moved halfway from 50 to 40. I love our weekly count. It starts Mondays off right. So yeah we're moving along at a nice clip here in the winter time. But again no rushing here. Need to enjoy today and this week. Turkey Dreams can always be part of your day though. Nothing wrong with that. Have a great Winter Weather!

Oh man I miss turkey CW!
We are having turkey breasts on the 25th as part of our Rudolph Day celebration! I think on Tom Turkey day this month we are going to do another traditional Thanksgiving food to commemorate the occasion, maybe green bean casserole or stuffing!

Turkey Dreams will most definitely be a part of my day. I was thinking about what to have for Tom Turkey Day since I'm dieting, and I thought maybe instead of the traditional Thanksgiving meal that each month I could have one component of a Thanksgiving meal instead. This month could be turkey, next month dressing, mashed potatoes for March, etc.

Or I might just go with CW's suggestion and eat a Subway Turkey Club. It's been a while since I had one of those anyway.
