We will probably start thawing "The Bird" this Sunday in a cooler on the back porch. It is too large to fit in a brining pan!

I can't believe Thanksgiving time is nearly upon us!
I use my deep fryer pots for brining. Usually the pots that come with the fryer kits are junk..aluminum pots. Its bad because people look at the difference in prices and go with the cheaper and they dont have a stainless pot. If you buy a seperate stainless pot it costs more than the original higher priced kit that included a SS pot. I wont even make a turkey now unless its been brined, the difference in quality is unreal.

I have decided to order a Heat and Eat meal from a local grocery store deli. I will make a few things myself but after not feeling great the last 2 weeks I will make a grocery run on Friday the 18th and then can pick up anything else on the 22nd when I pick up the meal. I may pick up a turkey breast now to have on hand for Christmas or New Years, or maybe just for a Rudolph Day in 2023.
Glad you are taking care of yourself.

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 10

Happy November Week! Today folks we have 10 days remaining until Thanksgiving. And yes it is our FINAL MILESTONE DAY before Thanksgiving Day (the ultimate destination this thread revolves around). It is the Home Stretch Till Thanksgiving. Not much left to say at this point folks but I love this week before Thanksgiving week. It’s one last full week to enjoy and really prepare yourself for what is to come. We move along here in our Awesome Autumn towards the latter part of it. And we do our Monday Weekly Countdown Till Thanksgiving Week which now stands at 1. That’s it. We started at 51 and here we are 50 weeks later down to 1. Not much I can say about that except I feel ready. We’ve been talking here about how awesome this autumn has been for us with all the fall activities (apple picking, Halloween trails, Haunted Hayride, etc. etc.) but also at the same time the talk has now turned to what’s ahead and Thanksgiving being the #1 thing in front of us. And it’s a great feeling. CW – you got 10 days to not forget that cranberry sauce. Seems like yesterday you text me that you forgot it on Thanksgiving day. I saved that text as a reminder all year. Now don’t you go forgetting it this year! And I hope all of you are able to use this week to prepare for Thanksgiving week. Amazing folks. Just amazing. Have a great November Week!

Holly's family doesn't want to go back to the "old way" of a non-brined turkey. Plus we do the "cheater rub" smoked dry seasoning, tastes just about like the real thing, an actual smoked turkey. The "before and after" is like you said - just unreal. We have been doing it this way for the past two or three years. We will never go back to "unbrined" lol.

Well we are here now. The week before Thanksgiving week! I've said this before, but somehow around the 3rd week of October, time just FLEW. I really hope the rest of the year doesn't go this fast, I want to enjoy Christmas Season.

I am overjoyed that NEXT WEEK, we will be sitting down at the table for TURKEY DAY!

Have a great Monday!

Do you have a formula for your brine you can share?

Its just a pain for people that dont live in a cooler climate to try and keep a huge pot cold..lol. My smoked turkeys only stay on the smoker for a few hours. I remove them and they go into a turkey bag and finish in the oven.

So next week I will be off on Thursday and Friday. I was going to work on Friday originally, but my brother and his wife can't make it down here on Thursday; he works for a TV station in Houston and it's all hands on deck on Thursday morning because the parade is a big ratings draw for them.

I can't believe we are just 10 mere days away. Once the Bers arrived everything just kicked into fast forward. It makes me kind of sad in a way. I hope we do a "Thanksgiving retrospective" or some kind of look back when we launch the new thread. Geez, I even don't like to think that we'll be launching a new thread in ten days.

I'll enjoy the next ten days to the fullest.

We do...the last few years I've done this thread I post a retrospective on Thanksgiving...

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 9

Happy Mid-November! Today folks we have 9 days remaining until Thanksgiving. I know. Trust me. I know. Single digits until Thanksgiving? And no more milestones between us and THANKSGIVING. That is our next and FINAL milestone and ultimate destination. Geez. I’m telling you I can’t believe we’re this close now but we are. Those triple digits are so long ago gone and the double digits now have ended. What’s next? Well we better stay in this current week so we don’t find out too soon too fast. I hope everyone is getting ready for the big week next week by planning and preparing this week. It’s all going to unfold right before our eyes before we know it and we must be as prepared as possible. We move along here in our Awesome Autumn feeling awesome ourselves about the amazing spot we’re in right now with Thanksgiving being next week. It feels unreal to believe that we’re almost there. But I’m glad we are here where we are and thankful all of you are here with me. Thank you all for being here this year. And I mean year as in last year on Thanksgiving night when I started this thread all the way up until now where we are 9 days away from being there again. Now for all you turkey fans have a great day today will you? And don’t get too nervous yet about next week. We still have time. Have a great Mid-November!
