My Halloween thought: Our legislature starts its annual session today and one lawmaker has introduced a resolution to make the last Friday of October the official Halloween celebration for trick or treating. He feels like it is better for families and for educators . Although there may be some advantages to this, when I read it, I automatically said, "Oh, no" outloud.
So in my part of Ohio, trick or treat rarely is done on Halloween. It drives me CRAZY, and always has. It was that way when I was a kid too. The argument here is trick or treat is never on a weekend because it is considered too dangerous to be out due to increase in traffic and such. Wednesday night is generally out because of the number of church services. So that really only leaves Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday. For the last few years the town I live near (used to live in) has just made it always on the Thursday closest to Halloween. I really don't like it. But I am less upset about it these days because we live out of town and there are no trick or treaters and Henry does not go any more. So I can ignore trick or treat all together and just enjoy Halloween on Halloween.

My Tuesday Halloween thought:

There is nothing like a full moon on Halloween. It feels very magical. Luckily we had one in 2020 to enjoy since our next one won't be until 2039.

I always enjoy an October harvest moon to add something to the Halloween season too. Luckily they come around every 3 to 4 years.

Good Evening, Folks!

It's past time for my Jack O Lantern Day #1 announcement. I will try and be more timely with them going forward.

Nothing quite kicks off Jack O Lantern Day season like the original "Halloween", and I also want to enjoy the cold, snowy (maybe) ambience of January, so "The Thing" just jumped out at me earlier this week. Seems like a perfect choice.

Something pretty cool to ponder. Halloween this year is on a Tuesday. Our very first Jack O Lantern Day will be on a Tuesday as well. Just Awesome.

Have a great evening!

My Tuesday Halloween thought:

There are a lot of things that I'd consider "Halloween-adjacent." For example, the movie Signs, which I watch every year, is most definitely not a Halloween movie, but it is supposed to frighten you and is very suspenseful.

So, in considering other Halloween-adjacent things, where does Phantom of the Opera stand? It's not particularly a scary movie at all, but it is about a "creature," who turns out to be a disfigured man, who terrorizes Paris, and there are some quasi-supernatural elements involved (Lot 666, the Phantom being a magician, etc.). And there's no doubt that the overture is haunting, almost like something you'd hear in a vintage monster movie.

I think it checks enough boxes to be considered Halloween-adjacent. I might give it a watch during a JOL Day this year.
I really like Signs too, and I like what @SolidSnake84 said about watching it during Spooky Spring!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! It's the halfway point of the week once again! It's always nice when you can see the weekend start to come into view. Every time we get close to the weekend, there is still a little part of me that takes just a few minutes and remembers October weekends, how amazing they feel. Relaxing on the couch, maybe the windows are cracked open a little bit, and you can feel some of the cooler air. October weekends I feel like are the best weekends out of the entire year.

We're just TWO DAYS now from reaching the 100 DAYS TO HALFOWEEN milestone, and next Tuesday, on Rudolph Day Eve, we will reach 250 DAYS TO OCTOBER.

Have a great Wednesday, I hope you're getting excited about the upcoming milestones because I know I am!

I love Signs. It has a very Hitchcock-esque vibe to it. The suspense is compounded by the fact that you don't even see the threat until the very final act (unfortunately, the CGI for the aliens did not age well). It also has a fantastic soundtrack. I saw it in theaters when it first premiered, and it made a huge impression on me. Sadly, Shymalan's other movies following this one have not.
I love Signs although most in my family don’t care for it. It’s a bit predictable and heavy handed at times, but the creepiness and sense of isolation experienced by the family makes it a great, suspenseful movie. I might have to give it another watch soon.

Oh man, The Thing outright terrified me when I saw it as a kid. I watched it again in college and haven't watched it since. Now there's a suspenseful, paranoia-inducing movie.

What was awesome is that one of my roommates in college had an Xbox, and there was a The Thing video game that was sort of a pseudo-sequel to the movie. I remember all of us crowded the living room in our dorm watching him play it. Good times.

Can you believe I've never actually seen it? Maybe it's time I track down a copy and give it a whirl!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Happy Thursday!

Remember, we will be hitting 100 DAYS TO HALFOWEEN, TOMORROW! That means that Saturday, we have another count that has broken out of the 100's. Spooky Spring has been on my thoughts more and more, especially when we do our weekly "Halloween Thought Tuesday", and especially as we venture farther into January, and the realization that soon thoughts of Spring will not be far away. Groundhog day is in exactly two weeks. I always enjoy the whole spectacle. But regardless of what Phil "says" that day, the facts are that the recognized first day of Spring is exactly 60 days from today. March has a Jack O Lantern Day that takes us right to the beginning of Spooky Spring, and that's exciting!

I hope you all have a great Thursday, and try and think a few Halloween thoughts today!

Have a great day!

I absolutely remember that game, my brother and I played it on PS2. It was terrifying for a video game. It perfectly recreated the sense of dread and paranoia. And it was a hard game too. I never finished it. I wonder if it is backwards compatible, if it could be played on the PS5.

The Thing is a very peculiar movie for me. The first time I saw it, I was so put off by the ending that I thought it was a bad movie. However, I’ve seen it many time since then, and I have fallen in love with it. It’s a masterpiece. The mystery, suspense, acting, etc. are all incredibly engaging.

Good Morning Halloween Friends. Happy Friday! Happy MILESTONE DAY!

100 Days to Halfoween.png
Halfoween is now a mere 100 days away. The calendar first day of spring is in just 59 Days. It's maybe more talk deserving of the Offseason Thread(tm), but seeing those numbers this morning makes me realize that I will be mowing grass again in probably around 75 days or less. When I'm outside using the mower and bagging up grass and raking, etc., my mind naturally goes to Fall when we are cleaning up leaves. I don't mind outside work at all.

Our next milestone will be in FOUR days from now when we welcome in the 250 Days to October milestone. That's going to be a big one.

Have a great Friday, friends! Think a few Halloween thoughts on this wonderful milestone day!

Hmm...maybe this is good enough reason to chill a special pumpkin beer I just picked up.

Happy Saturday Halloween Friends! We are finally past the 100 day marker to Halfoween. Our Jack O Lantern #1 Day count will be down into single digits starting tomorrow. Tomorrow starts my favorite MMC "Special Days Week" of probably the whole year, rivaled only by that 4th week of August where our final round of special days take us right into The Bers.

And another thing that is great about next week? SOUP WEEK RETURNS. Soup Week returns starting tomorrow. I am trying to remember, but I believe that this is the second annual year that we have did SOUP WEEK to blast us to the end of January.

The weather here is starting to get more winter-like, and with the peak coldest day waiting around 9 days from today, hearty home-made soups seem like the way to go.

Have a great day, friends!
