I am seeing all of the Valentine's Day candy in stores but it doesn't give me the same thrill as Halloween candy, I mean I will still buy it and eat it, but it just isn't the same. I guess it really is spooky for me, not smoochy!

I get what you mean, the thrill just isn't there! I also saw some Easter candy out earlier this week!

I can report in that CVS Pharmacy already has out stuff for St. Patrick's Day. Now that Christmas is over with and I can safely go inside the Hobby Lobby without fear of seeing busted decorations and Christmas stuff that's 75% off, I want to go in there and see how they are coming along with the seasonal stuff.

Once HL gets done Valentine's and St. Patricks Day stuff, they have a major shift to Easter usually around the middle of February. I always get so excited then because in my mind, I am counting seasons until I can find the first offerings of "Fall" stuff in there. Last year that was a few weeks before Memorial Day!

Today has really reminded me a lot of October. Gloomy and colder. I was out doing some yard work earlier because I'm about a month and a half away from fertilizing, and just cleaning up and smelling that damp earth gave me such strong Fall Feels!

Another count in the double digits. Love it!!!

Happy Saturday Halloween Friends! We are finally past the 100 day marker to Halfoween. Our Jack O Lantern #1 Day count will be down into single digits starting tomorrow. Tomorrow starts my favorite MMC "Special Days Week" of probably the whole year, rivaled only by that 4th week of August where our final round of special days take us right into The Bers.

And another thing that is great about next week? SOUP WEEK RETURNS. Soup Week returns starting tomorrow. I am trying to remember, but I believe that this is the second annual year that we have did SOUP WEEK to blast us to the end of January.

The weather here is starting to get more winter-like, and with the peak coldest day waiting around 9 days from today, hearty home-made soups seem like the way to go.

Have a great day, friends!
We're having gumbo next week! Not a full "Soup Week", but it is gumbo weather!

Happy Sunday, friends! A single digit count to JOL Day #1 now greets us. And one week from today, I will begin my annual Harry Potter re-watch, as I settle in for the first "Dark Arts Sunday" of 2023.

And we have a big week coming up this week! We will reach the 250 Days to October milestone on Tuesday, Rudolph Day #1 on Wednesday, and Tom Turkey Day on Thursday! That is how we are going to power our way to the end of January. With lots of Feels!

I'm getting excited as this will be my first batch of Special Days where I am incorporating some of the new tricks that I discussed during the awesome planning week over in the Offseason Thread!

Have a great day, friends!

I am feeling the Spooky today, in fact I almost wish our first JOL Day was before Tom Turkey and Rudolph Day. Maybe I can pretend it is Dark Arts Sunday and watch some Harry Potter today!

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Another new week begins and we have a new set of countdown numbers to marvel over. Folks, TOMORROW, we usher in the 250 DAYS TO OCTOBER milestone, which is certainly a big one, occurring on Rudolph Day eve. Tomorrow also marks ONE WEEK until the very first Jack O Lantern Day of 2023!

Looking lastly at our "Weeks" counts, which we always update every Monday, you will notice that today will be the last time you see the "Weeks to Halloween" in the 40's! It's 40 weeks to Halloween, and looking back, we have completed nearly 12 weeks since Halloween was last here. That's a chunk of time.

Have a great day, friends! Try and think some Halloween thoughts, or if you want, save them for tomorrow, a milestone day, and also our "Halloween Thought Tuesday".

Tomorrow is going to be a big day in this thread! I'll have some Halloween thoughts saved up. I think tomorrow might be a good day to reveal what my "theme" for the JOL Days will be this year and how I plan to celebrate. With it being a week until the first one, I can't think of a better time to do so!

***MILESTONE DAY***
250 Days to October.png

Good Morning Halloween Friends! Happy Milestone Day! It's Tuesday, which means we will get to our "Halloween Thought" portion of today's post here in just a minute, but first I want to look at our counts this morning.

Folks - we are only ONE WEEK away now from the very first Jack O Lantern Day of 2023, and my annual Harry Potter re-watch starts this Sunday. Football on TV, Harry Potter, Cherry Cider and the smells of pumpkin spice / cinnamon, wow, It's going to be a Fall Sunday here for a few hours. I can't hardly wait. What a journey we have had through January to get to this point!

My Halloween thought on this Tuesday is really a simple one. I just enjoy the atmosphere of October. We have had a couple of cool days recently with gloomy skies, and being outside and smelling the damp earth and watching some of the "old" leaves blow around, if you imagine hard enough, it's October there for a few minutes. I think everything looks different in October, we talk often about the "filter" that seems to go on the sun where everything is that deep golden, almost orange-ish tint. Even at night the Moon feels like it's a "Halloween moon", and watching my street light create a shadow from the trees outside is very Halloween-ish on most nights. Even when it gets foggy, I look at the street light outside illuminating its cone of light, and I always think of that famous scene in "The Exorcist" where Father Merrin is standing under the light with his briefcase.

Folks, have a wonderful Tuesday. Think up those Halloween thoughts and share if you would like, but enjoy the day. It's Rudolph Day Eve too. We still have Rudolph Day coming up tomorrow, and then Tom Turkey Day on Thursday. It's going to be amazing!

Morning Halloween Fans! My Halloween Thought this Tuesday is I don't mind Halloween being on a Tuesday this year. It's one of those holidays that I think can fit on any day of the week like Christmas Eve. Have a great day!
Tuesday is OK, but a Friday or Saturday is much better. But I guess we have to take turns, don't we? I like it on the 31st.

My Tuesday Halloween thought:

I am really looking forward to the first JOL day next week. The first is always a big boost. Halloween seems like it was ages ago with Thanksgiving and Christmas after it. It also will start to open the door to more exciting times in February.

Alright, here's my Halloween Tuesday thought:

I was thinking about my "goalposts" for the year and how they move up just a little earlier every year. And I started thinking about how last year almost immediately after July 4th, we started to see Halloween items hit the shelves. Typically from July 4th into early August there's kind of a lull or a break where retailers take their time clearancing the summer/July 4th items, then they go into "Back to School" mode, and THEN Halloween stuff finally makes an appearance. But last year it's as if they were in a hurry for Halloween to get here.

That makes me happy. I wonder if, like with our "Christmas hunting" that we start in late April/early May, we will be able to start "Halloween hunting" in July going forward? I think that would be wonderful.

I promised to reveal the theme for my JOL Day celebrations this year, so here we go.

This year during the Offseason Planning Session, I started thinking about what a scaredy cat such as myself could do for a Halloween celebration. As most of you know, I'm not a scary movie guy, so I don't regularly indulge in the kind of fare that you'd usually enjoy on Halloween.

I thought about maybe doing video games. Silent Hill came to mind, as did Castlevania and Devil May Cry.

It turns out I've been overthinking it. The answer is simple: What's more Halloween than the original classic movie monsters? Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, etc.? They can still be scary, but they're a fun kind of scary, and the movies came out long ago before special effects became what they are today.

So, for my JOL Days this year, I'll be doing a deep dive on one classic Halloween monster per JOL Day - either by watching the movie, reading the novelization, or both if time permits. Then on Halloween, I'll close out with the original Big Bad himself, Dracula. Here's my schedule that I've put together:

January: Frankenstein
March: The Mummy
May: The Invisible Man
July: The Werewolf/Wolf Man
August: The Creature from the Black Lagoon
October: Dracula
