My wife and I just started planning for Thanksgiving yesterday. It's early, but we were discussing how things will work this year with my mom and her going through her dementia symptoms. Even though she can still cook at this point, we decided that the best thing would be for her to rest and let us begin taking the reins this year. Will she want to do that? Probably not, but I don't know about her cooking an entire Thanksgiving meal at this point. I don't think it's wise. We shall see how this develops as we get closer to the big month.
I am sorry to hear about your mom and her decline, but I am glad that you are having the tough conversations early and are making plans so you can enjoy the holiday!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 127
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 105
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 44

Happy Mid-Summer Mid-Week! Today folks we have 127 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 105 days to go until November, and 44 days left until The Bers. Our next milestone will be the 100-Day Marker till November. It will be on Monday in 5 days. We have time. For now folks we move along in the Summer Sweatfest really dragging here as day after day it’s either hot/humid, cloudy/humid/thunderstorms/rain, etc. Nonstop. But we’ll see if things continue on that path. That kind of leads me into this week’s Weekly Wednesday Poll!

What’s the worst type of weather to you in the summer?

  • Rain/Thunderstorms
  • Heat
  • Humidity
  • Cooler Days that don’t feel quite like summer
  • For me I’m going with C. It’s the humidity. If it’s 90 and not humid I can handle that. Stay in the shade even with a slight breeze it feels ok. Rain I can deal with (sometimes) but that usually comes along with humidity. But when you have humidity when it’s not raining and when it’s raining well…it’s constant. And that makes you run the a/c nonstop. What about you? Have a great day turkey fans. Have a great Mid-Summer Mid-Week!

Easy answer today, "C" by far! The heat that you get even in early Spring or early Autumn, with low humidity, is very tolerable! But 85 degrees at near 100% humidity is truly miserable. Our humidity starts dipping down here at the end of the month. It can't come soon enough!

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 126
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 104
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 43

Happy Jogging Thru July! Today folks we have 126 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 104 days left until November, and 43 days to go until The Bers. Our next milestone will be on Monday. It’s only Thursday of this week folks. It will come when it comes. The humidity has slowed everything down this summer. The positive thing about that is we keep everything safely in front of us for a lot longer thankfully. The next milestone we referenced earlier is the 100-Day Marker till November. Dare I (an anti-cold weather person) say I kind of wish we had a November type of weather day right now? I know that sounds crazy coming from me. It’s a thought though here in the Summer Sweatfest as is the below in our Thanksgiving Thought Thursday!

Every holiday has a unique feel to it. None of them feel the same. Thanksgiving though might have the most unique feel to it. Part of it is how it starts the Christmas Season (the most wonderful time of the year) AND is in itself one of the best days of the year. And the final thing is the 11-month wait from Christmas to Thanksgiving makes this joyous anticipation feeling to be so different than the wait from Thanksgiving to Christmas (1 month).

I do think about that often how long of a wait it is for Thanksgiving as opposed to Christmas. I think that makes it unique too. Have a great Jogging Thru July!

My Thanksgiving Thought today is just all about the food. I'm thinking tonight should maybe be a Cracker Barrel night. I miss the turkey and dressing and the sweet potato casserole and all the other goodies. The only bad part is that Cracker Barrel's turkey dinner doesn't go well with the low sodium diet I'm on.

I still remember the very first year that It really dawned on me just how much I missed Thanksgiving, which was even more of a gut punch as I realized how much I really hadn't been "appreciating" Thanksgiving. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the holiday just as much as anyone, but I hadn't really been considering what a special time it was, and what a special occasion it really is. Up until that point, Thanksgiving was just a big food day and the next day Christmas season started. Now I recognize it for what it truly is, and I agree, that wait from December to November, focusing solely on Thanksgiving, can really seem nightmarish. Have a great day!

Does your mom have one dish she cooks that she is particularly proud of? That might help with the transition if you all made a big deal about how good that dish is and how much you love it and would she please do that dish? Just a thought.

I have to disagree with most everyone and go with B as we rarely have humidity here. (Don't hate me.)

I love this idea

DAYS TILL THANKSGIVING: 125
DAYS TILL NOVEMBER: 103
DAYS TILL THE BERS: 42

Happy Slugging Thru Summer! Today folks we have 125 days remaining until Thanksgiving, 103 days to go until November, and 42 days left until The Bers. Our next milestone will be on Monday when we welcome in the 100-Day Marker till November. But first we have our 3-day quiet weekend period here in this thread. And we do so here in our Summer Sweatfest. We’re all enjoying it as much as we can. I have to tell you the 2 things I’ve already loved that I’m appreciating more than ever this summer are a/c and iced coffee. I can have iced coffee even in winter. It’s my thing. But a/c obviously has been really a necessity this summer. And it continues to be. But we move along here in the middle of summer enjoying each step thinking of those amazing autumn times ahead when all of this heat/humidity will be something we look back on and think it was worth it because we’ll enjoy autumn even more. I think that’s why we all underrate spring really. Same concept with winter and getting to spring is so huge. Keep it real my turkey friends and I hope this day finds you well so far. I hope you’re enjoying your week. And that you enjoy the quiet period here 3-day weekend style like always in this thread. Have a great Slugging Thru Summer!
