I live about 26 miles from Punxutawney Pa, and it turns into a huge event. Last year , I made Groundhog day Plaques that were sold in a store up there. I never have gone to "Gobblers Knob" where the festivities take place nor do I really want to. iTS WAY TOO early for me and there are way too many people there. It should be fun this year especially because of the Steelers being in the Super Bowl. I was surprised to learn form the shopowner of where I have my stuff at , at the amount of people who visit there because of Punxy Phil- all year round! :tree:

I think its kind of funny how talk of the Opera and Shispering Pines appears out of nowhere on here. I think to change it would detract from its allure and mystique. :tree:

Actually Christmas in July is mentioned throughout other threads as well. People are big on posting about QVC and HSN when July arrives. Some of those people are not regular posters here. Made also post the schedules for it on here. They do have, Christmas in July, group on these forums that I am a member of that anyone here can join.

Maybe the explanation should be on the first page of the thread to explain all this so we are not lost. Kind of like, "before you enter the doors of the Countdown here are a few things that take place" then listing all you just mentioned. We can all be on board for those big days of the opera, Shispering Pines, etc. It would be just for fun and maybe not necessary but just a thought.

I thought of that---but would it be intimidating for new folks to think that they have to "bone up" before they join in? Maybe there could be a blog post with the pertinent information that folks could go to if they don't "get" an insider reference. But how to let folks know it's there -- ?

Even though I don't get all of it, I get that those things are part of what makes the Countdown what it is. The trick is not to let it make new posters feel shy and outside-looking-in.

I see a little cartoon in my head of Phil in his recliner talking to the press on his phone ... "Get rid of some of this snow, and we'll see about my making an appearance this year! Otherwise, forget it!!"

Do you have any suggestions Se awaters? I need something to lift me out of these doldrums I am in. I spent the whole day laying on the couch because I had no mojo to do otherwise. Sometimes I get like that, a nd when I do the smallest of tasks seem impossible. I had noi school today due to weather and normally I would have been psyched but again I could hardly find the energy to move and I am not sick and I work out regularly as well. Anybody else get that way ?:cry:

I play Christmas music AND sing along!!! It has to be by myself, though, because I'm okay, but not that great! I also read, watch Christmas videos, especially those that appeal to kids, and scrapbook! HTH.

Thanxx Shiny- to add my input here... sounds like we are going to start fixing the thread, which really isnt broken,... Sorry- but there are old jokes here that you simply have to investiagte- some of us have been together over ten years and go back three sites- the shispering pines is a play on Jay's poor typing.. the Opera was a joke from years ago about my coffee consumption and Crown's sleeping... we've carried these over three different sites and everyone had been able to jump in and pick up on the fun.

Good evening,

Storm 1 is done storm 2 is starting soon, school is already canceled for tomorrow with the snow and ice storm coming. I will call out if the ice is as bad as they say and it is suppose to last until early Thurs. morning, I have yet to shovel I will do it tomorrow. My Bruins won a great game tonight, so I am happy about that.
