Have fun a your birthday partySeawaters - I hope you're okay!! And everyone else who was having back pains, I hope you are all feeling better!
What a couple of days, huh? Osama being caught...most people seem to be celebrating, but I just can't bring myself to do that. I worry about retaliation attacks and the like, and most people I know haven't really thought about that. It's amazing though, and I'm very proud of our troops!
It has been a pretty easygoing week so far. Beautiful weather right now (81F!), although it's supposed to rain later. I've gotten a lot done around the house, but tonight starts my crazy week at Hallmark...I work 5 days this week, on top of working 12 days in a row at Kohl's. Something tells me by the end of next week, I'll be sleeping for days at a time! I'm already feeling a bit tired now and the craziness hasn't even started yet!
I'm excited about this weekend though, I'm having a birthday party and it should be fun having all my crazy friends together. It shouldn't be as big an event as last year since it's not a milestone birthday, but I look forward to a good time!
Take care, everyone! <3
I had a student who started the test by trying to answer the questions WITHOUT even reading the passages. When I confronted him, he said, "Am I supposed to read the story?" I wanted to pitch him into next week!!! I had one student whose mom did not give him his medication today and he was off the wall!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also ended up having to suspend a student because he didn't want to do what he was supposed to do!!! What a day, I tell you!!! Thanks for listening to my rantings. I need to retire!! People seem to have priorities mixed up and want to blame teachers for everything and not accept responsibilities themselves. This is CRAZY!!

:Talking about a tough day! I admire you for dealing with all this problems. I hope you were able to relax.Good evening, everyone. Today was a total ORDEAL!! First off, I had to watch a (dumb) dvd for administering the state test. It is a repeat, one that's just not conducive to being attentive. I put it into my dvd player at school and could not get anything. So I went to Wal-Mart to get a battery for the remote. It still wouldn't even power up. Then I tried it on my school computer yesterday, but no go, unless I wanted to pay to download another program. The dvd said that an error occurred and could only be viewed on Windows 7. So, I brought the dvd home and it still would not play. I knew I would have to get up early and see what to do about another dvd at school. The principal sent me to the computer lab, but the computer guy had the computer fixed so only he could get on the one that would play the dvd. The principal had access to his passwords, so she fixed it so I could watch it. By this time, the bell was ready to ring; so the principal said she would take my class so I could view the dvd. I viewed the dvd and went back to my classroom. The kids were WILD when I got back to the classroom!!! I had two kiddos who had to take the assessment in an alternative area. I sent them to the place where they needed to be and started my portion of the test. We finish up except for one girl who took another 40 minutes to complete the test! She pretended to be sick, so I told her to keep the trash can nearby so she could vomit into it. She finally decided she didn't need it! During this, I had to set up my new student who started today! Friends, I'm just now getting over the bug that I had the past few days.
Wow I just found out I am getting deployed in June to Bosnia for 120 days...I am going to miss you guys this summer and early fall. I guess I will be back in October just in time for the holidays!
Seawaters -

And about Osama..while I can somewhat understand everyone cheering at his death or capture I am reminded of the cheering (some) pakistani citizens displayed after 9/11 and it just does not leave a good feeling in my tummy. Yes I am glad he was captured/killed but at the end of the day 3000 Americans have been killed on 9/11 not to mention the ones who have died in war since then, and we STILL have many groups that want to kill us whether we cheered at his death or not. no matter what or how we react.. they will want to kill no matter what they are terrorists!,.. sorry to sound bleek but it's the reality we live in.
it is true.....Jeff wrote a good blog about it.....I have to say....I understand the open cheering, but wouldnt do it myself.....and it is still a long way to fight terror
I understand why people fear of retaliatory attacks, but I remember after 9/11 I was fearful of quite a few things, but I learned not to worry about it, if it is my time to leave this earth, it is my time. I will not celebrate in someones death, but I do have a sense of satisfaction of what has been accomplished.

brings to mind this quote by Martin Luther King, Jr
"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
CM3 how is your finger doing?
