It's Charles Dickens' 200th birthday ... hooray for the author of "A Christmas Carol"!

I'm thinking of everyone who is not feeling well, or is having doctors' appointments, or who has other troubles. I hope things are better for you soon.

Now that I have the Tablet, I will have to check out BlueRay and Netflix.

If the Nook Tablet is anything like the Kindle Fire, you'll have to restrain yourself. The Fire makes it too darn easy to browse and shop for books, music, and movies online, and WAY too easy to buy instantly. I'm grateful that I'm not the impulsive type! But I'm getting spoiled by having movies, music, books, apps (including Tapatalk), and games all in one tablet.

May each and every one of our members and loyal thread supporters have a most Terrific Tuesday and an Ardently Attentive Anticipation of 'Pines Day tomorrow!
<< Really having to stretch for those alliterative allusions, aren't you, Crown? >>
Well.........yeah.
Not at all! Ardent and attentive anticipation is expected when keeping company with such a chronology-conferring archetype as the mightly Crown!

Hello all!

I don't post much, but I wanted to let you all know that DH will be having his gallbladder taken out on Thursday. I know we all pray for/think of each other here, so I wanted to let you all know.

Thank you!
I'll pray all goes well for you husband!

Good morning! Just home from work a short while ago! It's off to the doctor's I go with EA. She has been running a fever now for three nights with this horrible cold. I hope we get some medicine or something! I feel so bad for her!
I just hate when our little ones are sick! You feel so helpless. I hope she gets well soon.

Good Wednesday morning, my Christmas friends!

We had another city council meeting last night. I have to say, it's still a little weird sitting at the head of the table after all those years in a council member seat! There was no serious business to discuss, just regular city business. I hope that is the norm, at least until I get used to being responsible for everything that happens...LOL!

Sunday afternoon before the big game, we went to the grocery store to get some chips & dip. As I was driving out of the parking lot, another car backed out a parking place and hit the side of Nancy's car! I was so mad, I was stomping around the car looking at the damage and grumbing out loud. Grrrr! Then the other driver got out, and she was a little 16 year old girl who had just gotten her license, and she crying uncontrollably and apologizing. Then I felt bad for raising so much sand after it happened. So, Nancy and I wound up consoling her till her mother arrived, then she started crying harder! Oh, well. I told her that these things happen, and that I had caused a few fender benders in my time, too. She finally settled down, and I taped some plastic in the window hole (IN NANCY'S NEW CAR!!! GRRR!!!), and we went home. Today I have to drive it to Statesboro to the auto body guy to get an estimate.

At least no one got hurt. EXCEPT OUR NEW CAR!!! GRRRR! :x

I hope y'all have a great day! cheesy

Good news! I thought the teachers on here and others as well might like this story!

My 21 year old son is graduating college this week and already got a job before walking the stage. He is happy!

I am so proud of him because all through school he was labeled "ADD" and really had a difficult time. He never once made honor roll but I was always proud of him when he made an effort but other times were trying because we had to stay on top of him to get his work done.

He did have a lot of good teachers that I had good communication with but one teacher struck a nerve when he was in the 4th grade. We had a parent/teacher conference that involved all his teachers with myself and his father. All of them mentioned it was a struggle to get him to concentrate but they all saw a creative side to him. One teacher stood up and said, "I'm sorry, I disagree, you all say he is creative but I don't see it at all and his writing is terrible" then she followed up with, "I have another meeting to attend to", then left abruptly. All the other teachers were shocked but no one said a word and we carried on. From that day forward my son was self conscious of his writing skills even when he started college. Well, sorry 4th grade teacher (that I don't even remember her name, ha ha) all his teachers in college were VERY IMPRESSED with his writing skills and commented how he is the most creative student they ever seen. He also had to give speeches in college that the teachers called creative. I don't mind if the 4th grade teacher didn't "get it" but her approach was uncalled for and not productive or helpful for my son. As far as being creative he heard that from teachers every year except that one teacher. Wouldn't it be nice to look her up and show her what he is doing now? (in a nice way, of course)!

My son made all A's and one B the entire time he was in college. The B was in algebra but he gave it every effort to even get that grade by staying after school nearly everyday.

I am proud, VERY PROUD! He really came a long way!

Thanks to all you teachers on here who work with your students to make them great adults!

Sorry that I only read the last page on the Countdown and I don't have much time to go back and catch up right now. I have been busy this week and have some family coming in town for graduation. I will see how it goes and try to visit on here often!

Have a great day everyone!!!

^^That's a wonderful story, CAH!
Congrats to your son on his perseverance, and to you on your restraint from knocking that teacher on her behind!

Yeah, when she said it I was just shocked. Not very constructive criticism, just downright rude. I guess she didn't believe in working with him, just had him labeled as being "terrible". We moved on though! My son had too many good teachers to let this one ruin him.

I just now read your story on the car. That poor young girl but I feel so bad for your wife's new car!!! At least no one was hurt.

I had this vision of you sneaking around the store with a coon skin hat and a shot gun looking for one! LOL
You will have to share some pictures

Gallbladder surgeries have improved GREATLY!!! When I had mine out in 1981, I had to stay in the hospital five days and still hurt like the dickens when I got out. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Happy Birthday to Charles Dickens! :notice:

I know what you mean. When I got my first Nook, I could buy books at the drop of a hat, even going down the freeway. Yesterday, I realize that we have WiFi at home. I had forgotten that!!! I am ONLY going to research today because I have several free ones on it right now. But I will make sure that any movies I buy from now on are Blue Ray.

It's Charles Dickens' 200th birthday ... hooray for the author of "A Christmas Carol"!

Uh, oh, dueling alliterations!! Mmmm. Thank goodness it's not Deliverance!!!

I cannot imagine being that HORRIBLE teacher. It is sad that she is/was even a teacher. When I go into SST/IEP meetings, I am armed with all the positive things I can say. When something is NOT a postive, I call them my concerns and ask all present how we can address these concerns together. I feel proud of your son, too, and wish he had been in my class. Congrats to him!!!

Hey everybody! It's hard to believe how much time has passed since the last time I logged on! This winter is flying! Our Ohio weather has been so mild & sunny (knocking on wood - I don't want to jinx us!!) I just love it. Of course Saturday morning we got some snow - big wet flakes, & it was so pretty!!! Just when I think I don't even care anymore if it snows this year b/c the warmer/sunny weather is so awesome - it snows & I love it again!! :)

Seawaters - prayers going up for you! I hope your doc appts go very well tomorrow & you get your questions answered. I hope you go through your chemo as "easy" as my brother did. He really seemed to breeze right through it - he kept wondering when all this horrible stuff he has heard about was going to happen & it never did. May the same be true for you!

This same brother is having total shoulder joint replacement surgery tomorrow. I sure hope that all goes very well for him!!! Many years of swinging a hammer has worn down his shoulder & it's time to fix it tomorrow! He is a private contractor so hopefully this surgery & rehab will have him back to work....they told him an 8 month recovery. YIKES!!!

I hope you are all having a great night. I am going back to read at least the last day of posts to catch up with what's going on around here!!

Have a great night.

I hope his surgery goes well.
