I sort of got a little chuckle out of that little fact; at myself that is, with 300 days to the start of the Christmas season and I still have some Christmas lights lit on my front porch. Hee-Hee-Hee!

But, I have to admit, The inside decorations are now all down and put away and 85% of the outside decorations are now down/ off and are in the process of being put away.

I have a Christmas Wreath still on my front door and a string of Christmas lights around a doorway leading to the den with Mistletoe hanging there. Hey, Mistletoe would be appropriate for Valentines Day, wouldn't it???? :D

Captain Ignorant is back for the first time in Countdown 2013, what exactly is snowcream?

First of all, you are not ignorant!

I believe they are talking about making ice cream with actual snow. Even here in Dallas I have made it! Everyone makes it a little different. I have seen it made with sweetened condensed milk, which I would like to try sometime. The way I made it was just with a little vanilla and sugar.

I'll keep your sister & her family in my thoughts & prayers, made.

yes, I have been hearing the stories on the news about the planes, I guess sometimes just do not think about how it effects everyone down the line. Will be praying for them.

Have your sister check with the local Elks Lodge. Elks have children's charities that help kids with medical needs, vision screening, hearing screening, etc. at no cost. In California alone, we raised close to $3 million for kids last year. We are the third highest group in the NATION that give out scholarships. Microsoft (via Bill Gates) is #1, and the U.S. government is #2. It used to be the government #1, Elks #2. Let me know if you need any help and I will find out some information for your sister.

I will keep them in my thoughts.

You're not only a good brother but a good friend to be there for your sister. I hope all works out for them!

Thanks everyone!!! Things are looking better today. They usually have 2 hours of manadatory overtime everyday and then voluntary overtime on the weekends. Well they canceled all of that yesterday when they started talking about shutting down the line. Then they just reinstated it about an hour ago. So it sounds like it may not be to hard of a fix.

Good Tuesday morning, my Christmas friends!

I had a great checkup with the cardiologist! The ticker is ticking away just fine, cholesterol is perfect, blood pressure is perfect...and I'm 35 lbs lighter. Nice!

Today is the last day of hunting season, so Jacob and I went hunting yesterday afternoon since he has guitar lessons this afternoon. We didn't see anything (except a million skeeters...in January!), but it was nice to get out in the woods.

I expect to go to my brother's shop and spray paint the car frame this evening. The new sub-frame body bushings should be in today, so it's almost time to put the front end back on the car!

I hope y'all have a great day! cheesy

I'm glad your check-up at the cardiologist went great!

I agree, a real fireplace woud be so nice! We are still using the little heater and only turn up the furnace when it gets below 60. It was 53 the other morning when I got out of bed ~ brrrrrr!

That was one of the first things I asked for when we had our home built, a full size brick fireplace. And I wanted it big, so I got it where I can put a 3' log in there. I just love it, especially this time of year. I just love to sit in front of a roaring fire with the snow coming down on the outside... Now, If we could only get some snow....

This is really odd, this is the second year in a row where we have/ are not getting any snow at all, or very little of it. All were seeing is a dusting, an inch and then it melts away or a nasty cold to the bone rain.... The temperature has been too warm.

I was watching some video I took back on December 19th, 2009 and both Feburary 16th and the 20th of 2010, when we got hammered with snow, I mean like 4 feet deep with blizzard conditions, now that's what I'm talking about....Now that theres fun, (yes I know I'm snow sick - hah hah, get it snow sick...lol) I crack myself up....

Gorgeous photo, Snowflake. Is it near you?

Thanks! Sadly, it is not. I was just searching for a covered bridge wallpaper for my phone and found this one :-)

It is similar to vanilla ice cream. You use snow, milk, sugar, and vanilla flavoring. Almost everyone in the NC mountains eats it when fresh snow is available.

Wow! I haven't been in MMC for a while now. ^^ Well, since I'm back at uni now and I start using my laptop more frequently, it will be much more chances for me to come here. I hope you all guys have started having a great year of 2013. :] Although it seems that Christmas of 2012 have passed just short time ago, I smiled when I saw this thread which already has thousands of replies! Whoah, what a wonderful Christmas fans here! ^^ Best wishes to all from (surprisingly) not-rainy Scotland!

Good morning. More rain this morning. Forecast to turn to snow after lunch. We should get around 8 inches of snow on top of the 12 inches of rain we've already had this week. Mudslides are happening all around us. Hwy 441 across the Great Smoky Mountain National Parkway is closed due to a major mudslide. I love the snow and cold but the flooding and mudslides are no fun.

Have a blessed day everyone. Hope we are eating snowcream for supper.
From the pictures I've seen, it'll be a long time before we can get to TN via 441.

Well, I need to go to the doctor for two things now. They were able to squeeze me in this afternoon. Luckily they said that they are advising flu patients over the phone and are not allowing them into the office. Hopefully I get some good news, keep me in your thoughts! I have to finish getting ready and get out of here soon.

I pray everything is okay!

I'm leaning towards Spider or Bottle. Spider as he reminds me of a cat that was here several years ago we named Spider and Bottle because he has gorgeous bottle green eyes and a bottle brush tale. If he hangs around, I'll call him both and whichever one he seems to like will be his name. cheesy

Good names! Let us know which one he likes better!
One of Gloria's granddaughters named her black kitten Frightful. Such a cute name!

It's a variation on ice cream, using snow as the main ingredient. You take clean, fresh snow and add sweetened condensed milk (or milk and sugar) and flavoring to it, usually vanilla. There are various "recipes" online---here's one example. These days, it's probably safer to use shaved ice, although I've heard of putting a big, clean bowl or pot outside when a heavy snowfall is expected.

Hmmm, I have never heard of that before today, sounds interesting.

I forgot but I have a shaved ice maker, not machine but has a hand crank. It's really easy to use. I need to find it and dust it off in time for summer. I bet it's stashed away with my cookie cutters!!!

Let me know if you can't find the flavored syrup. I know of a reliable place you can order it online.

Making it with sweetened condensed milk is soooooo good---although it's sticky and has loads of calories!

Went to see CalSTRS to sign retirement papers and all is said and done! My last day of work will be Thursday, January 31, 2013 and my first day of retirement will be Friday, February 1, 2013. YEAH!!! I have to go down to Edward Jones and sign papers to get that special fund rolled over with the other money they have for me. I am getting happier and happier by the minute!

Congratulations!

Sounds easy enough.
