Christmas Countdown - 2013

Good morning all. I am off work today and am going to love every minute of it. We had back to school night last night and the kids got to meet their teachers. The start of the school year is already very emotional. One of the little girls in my wife's class she met last night came to our school from Plaza Towers, which is one of the schools that was hit by the tornado. She was in the class where the seven students were killed. For an adult losing seven friends it would be awful but I cannot imagine how a child would deal with it. She ran up and hugged my wife and I think my wife about broke down right there. I know this will be a hard year for a lot of folks in our school district but we are praying it goes good.
I am going to organize some stuff around the house and then take the kids somewhere fun. Hope everyone has a great day!

Hope your making lots of progress with your website. No plans yet for today. I am already busy with laundry, unloading supermarket delivery, tidying, breakfast and looking after my little ones......my youngest is keeping extra busy lol! It is also grey here today , it brightened up for a few mins but that soon faded away. Have a good day! xx

Not too much going on, the girls all have off from work again. We will probably do more clothes shopping today. Even though they are older now and have their own money, I still like to buy them some new things before school starts. Aww, how precious. I know teachers shouldn't have favorite's but that little girl would be getting some extra attention from me this year.

I really don't blame them, I remember as a kid, it kinda stinks when summer vacation is over and you have to go back to school....

Makes my stomach turn thinking about it! Lol!

I came across a recipe online for individual miniature pumpkin pies baked in a muffin tin. I posted it here.

I'm not a big pumpkin pie/pumpkin spice fan myself, but I know a lot of you are!

Sounds like your hubby is doing a great job on that spare room. I love hearing about everyone's home produce....I love salsa! Have a fun time at the tavern and enjoy the live music .

He is moving right along on the room project! I LOVE salsa too. Soo good! I just wish the chips that I eat it with were healthier...and it's not the same to eat it with celery or pretzels or other healthier things. Lol! It's just not! I do eat it with baked tortilla chips, so a little better for me, right? Hee hee!

Good Morning MMC!!!!! It's another beautiful day here in central Indy with a high of 76 projected for today. I spent the morning cleaning and now I'm going to kick back and go over the grocery ads so I can make a menu for next week. Then this afternoon, I have to babysit for a couple of hours. I'm getting excited for our trip to Put In Bay but have I lots to get done before we can go!! My list is made, just need to work through it!!! This work thing is getting in the way. Ha ha!!

Sweet potatoes or yams will work wonderfully for the individual pies. We normally have both pumpkin and sweet potato pie at Thanksgiving. When most people make sweet potato pie, they season it just like pumpkin. My grandmother, however, used vanilla and no other spices. It is the most wonderful flavor! I think that some islanders (not sure if it is Bermuda or another one) use vanilla also. My grandmother was German, though.

I will have to try making these. We only seem to get pumpkins around October month and even then I think they are just produced for carving as they never seem to have much in them. I wonder if I can substitute it for squash which is very similar to pumpkin......Thanks for sharing the reciepe!

Good Morning!

We actually made it to the seaside yesterday. It was a grey and dull day and we just made a quick decision to go around mid day. I actually quite like grey misty days at the seaside, it adds a very mysterious, haunting atmosphere set against the ocean.
It's not the kind of beach where you go into the water but the children loved looking for seashells and building sandcastles. I rather enjoyed getting lost in thought listening to the sound of the waves. It really helped to lift my spirits.

While we were walking through the town , I noticed one card shop had some christmas gift bags and cards out!!!!

Well another dismal, rainy day here and I am not sure what our plans are yet.......
