Ham sandwiches, ham and eggs, ham and potato soup, grilled ham and cheese, plain old pieces of ham..I might be O.D.'ing on Christmas ham......

Give them. The gifts were made with love. Not giving them could make Carolina feel you don't appreciate her efforts. Even store-bought gifts are not always appreciated---the important thing is that they're given wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, not everyone appreciates the gift behind the gift.
Thank you Merry, she is excited to give the gifts to her aunt and uncle and great grandparents. I have tried to not let it bother me today. I am already thinking of what she can give next year that everyone will love.

I think that when someone gives you a gift, you have no right to make negative comments. Especially when it's something that a child made and is so proud and excited to give. I got two drawings from our friends' kids on my birthday. One drew a ghost for some reason, but it was nice of them to do that and I appreciated the thought and effort that went into those drawings. I'm glad to see that Carolina is still excited to give out her remaining gifts. Giving is such a joyous experience and it's great that she got so into the spirit of it.

I mean, it's not really anything to be sorry about it. I do what I do and they do what they do and it is what it is. I'm not trying to paint my family in any kind of negative light or anything like that, they do love the holiday season as much as anyone. I think it's more reflective of society as a whole in today's day and age in that the "Christmassy" aspect of the holiday season during the immediate post-Christmas Day portion of it is almost completely gone, whereas in decades past I really feel that there used to be a much stronger effort to keep it going (but that's a conversation for another thread). I'll tell you something though, as I am seeking to develop my own home and family life, it's definitely an important quality I look for in any potential love interest of mine that they have an equal or greater love for Christmas and wish to maintain it as strongly and in the same capacity as I do. I really can't see living a life without that. So I'm still hopeful that I can one day establish my own life and home with Christmas, as well as the broader holiday season, being a major part of it.

Starting your own traditions is great, when I was growing up I begged my parents to keep the tree up until my birthday (Jan. 7) every year. I only remember that happening once. Now I will not take my tree down until the weekend after the 7th. I also remember asking for a Santa hat every year, I never got one. I have one I use every year that I have had since 1999.

Okay, serious question: Can eggnog be frozen and still return to its original enjoyable state?

When I got off work today I literally drove around to Ralphs, Vons, Smart and Final, CVS, Target, and then back to Ralphs to pick up the Vanilla Eggnog they still had in stock. Everywhere else was either sold out or only had fat free (who wants that?).

Anyways, I'm only asking here cuz it's probably more visible than anywhere else on the forum, and I need this question answered. A part of me thinks it will be totally okay to freeze it, but then a part of me thinks there's just no way a liquid as thick as eggnog can return to its original state after being frozen. I froze sour cream not too long ago and while it tasted the same and had the same impact after being thawed out it was still chunky and looked more like cottage cheese before using it. I can't imagine drinking chunky eggnog even if it tastes the same.

Has anyone done it before?

If nothing else I ask for future reference. I was hesitant to stock up earlier in December, going with the assumption that it's not a good idea to freeze it, and thinking that stores will probably keep supplying it until at least New Years. But I was wrong. So if I can't find it, at least I'll know in years to come.

BTW, this vanilla eggnog ain't so bad, its kind of like a vanilla milkshake without the frozen-ness.

Morning MMC! Hope you are all still in the Christmas spirit. Day 2 of work for me this week of 3. Why can't every work week be 3 days? lol...that'd be awesome. It wasn't so bad going back yesterday. Day went pretty well and joked around with coworkers like usual. Everyone seemed to have a great Christmas break and now looking forward to a New Years one. I'm definitely thinking of watching a bunch of Christmas shows Friday through Monday when I'm off for those 4 days. Didn't get to watch enough in December (always the case isn't it when things get hectic). Hope you all have a great Wednesday!!!

I checked and commercial Nog can be frozen for up to 6 months with no problems in paper or plastic containers.

Good Wednesday morning, Christmas friends!

We had low country boil again at Nancy's parents' house. For those who don't live in the low country, that's shrimp, crab legs, small red potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, and sausage (ingredients vary) boiled together in a large pot with lots of Cajun spices. It's soooo good!

Nancy is vegging out in front of the new TV. When I got home for lunch yesterday, I asked her what we were having. From the couch, she said, "your lunch is on the counter." There were two slices of cold pizza. She seems very content with the TV. LOL

I hope y'all have a great day! :D

No crawfish?!!!!

When we take our Christmas Decorations down, they get replaced with our snowman decorations. Granted we do not have as much snowmen stuff as we do Christmas but it does help the house feel less blah. We have several stuffed snowmen, snowmen candles and candle holders and some that light up. The snowmen decoration stay up until the beginning of March.

I'm not anywhere near ready to take down my Christmas decorations but I do love my snowman decorations too!

Well the Santa selection was pretty thin this year. I found 2 though to add to the collection. So the count is around 135 now. I picked up a few ornaments, a new Santa door mat, and some paper too. Oh and some chocolate covered cherries too. I can't believe I haven't had any so far this season.

That sounds like a worthwhile trip!!!

The Christmas blues haven't started yet for me. Carolina was sad last night but me telling her Christmas is in her heart all year made her feel better. The past few years I have been worried that it will be my grandmas last Christmas and that's what makes me saddest since she is 90.

Mikes parents were not impressed with Carolina's home made gift. They thought it was vain and lazy because it was a magnet with her picture that I let her paint herself. It hurt my feelings and now I'm not sure if I should even bother giving it to his grandparents and uncles family in case they feel the same way
I'm sure Mike's parents are great people but it sounds like they are acting very childish and impolite! That's a great gift! I'm sure the others will appreciate the it!!
Prayers for your grandma!
