Good morning, everyone!
I wanted to post yesterday but I have been incredibly busy since returning from Montreal on Sunday night. Normally, I would say that the continuation of the countdown has increased my excitement, however, to be honest; I am still coming down from a near all-time high. On Sunday we won the Men’s Canadian University Ultimate Championship! – Not sure if I mentioned it was Nationals for Ultimate (Frisbee).
What an incredible feeling it was. The three day tournament was tough as it included 11 games, including five on Friday. My body is still sore from hitting the ground hard on more than a dozen occasions, but it’s worth it. It’s crazy to think that Carleton University is Canadian National champions. We came up a little too short at the Eastern Championships, but stepped up when it really mattered. Although we had previous lost to the team we faced in the finals on Saturday by a sort of lopsided score of 14-7 – we were even up 4-1 at one point - we were not going to get down on ourselves on Sunday and we would not accept second place. In the end, we defeated the top-seeded University of Western Ontario 15-11 to capture the 2009 Canadian University Ultimate Championship!
When played at a highly competitive level Frisbee is an extremely grueling sport. Obviously, this makes it even more special as we’re proud to say that we wouldn’t quit until we scored the final point! The result finally made the non-stop playing for nine straight months and extra gym workout sessions worth every second. It’s quite surreal… very rewarding. I couldn’t be happier for our team. We actually have a large team this year – 23 players – and they all stepped up in the Finals even when they did not receive any playing time, they remained loud and showed that they were an important part of the team.
I’ve attached the team picture, if anyone is interesetd. I am on the very bottom on the left, laying on the ground. Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone… and, of course, thanks for asking how it went, Brad. Glad your trip into the mountains went well. The photos are beautiful. There is such an incredible contrast of seasons and weather up there. It’s breathtaking!
My apologies for another long post! The countdown is moving quite fast! We’re already past the halfway mark of the 20s and we will be in the teens this weekend! In regards to the Christmas Blossoms thread, I saw a large banner inside a mall where I do plenty of my grocery shopping here in Ottawa that said “Christmas Store” with Christmas lights around it! There was a bunch of Halloween costumes inside and it appeared half full, so I hope they are preparing for their Christmas stock!! I will bring my camera the next time I plan to go to the mall.
Have a great Tuesday everyone!!
