Good morning, Christmas friends. A little chilly here, but I love cold weather and snow! I just wish we had snow! Hope everyone has a great wintery day!

Teaching is a thankless job and I am just a sub right now. Friday I had a grandmother come and cuss me out in front of a room full of kids. I had to quickly edge to the door and and she followed me yelling and cursing because I sent her grandson to the office for tripping and hitting people. I told her he had been warned numerous times about his actions and behavior and she proceeded to call me some rather colorful names upon at the time I said, " I am exercising my right to remove myself from this conversation." I did this with a smile. It was all I could do even though I was seething inside. DO not get me wrong I love my job but I can not get over how parents/caregivers act. Now I know where the child got it.

******* CHRISTMAS SEASON DAY #25 *******

Good Morning, Folk!

Wow. Sad Wow.
After today, Christmas Season 2010 will be half over.
Time seems to move so fast these days. Hard to believe we are so far along.

On a happier note:
Days to Christmas Day: 18 (Barely over 2 1/2 weeks off, now!)
And if that isn't enough to cheer you just think, we have been silently counting down to Christmas Season 2011 ever since Nov 13.
24 days gone already!

Cold Cold Cold here in the south.
We dipped into the mid 20's last night and are only up to 27 at this hour.
Sunny though, with little or no breeze.
We only reached 38 for a high yesterday and it was windy most of the day.
Today, they say 36 and tomorrow, 38 again.
More BRRRR!

Regardless of your weather situation, have a Terrific Tuesday, Everyone!

WOW! I had this happen, but thank goodness it was after school. I told the grandma that I refused to allow her to yell at me and that my main concern was her grandson. I then invited her to go to the principal with me. She refused! But when I stood up to her, she finally apologized.

HollyJells,
I forgot to add that subbing is also a thankless job. It is hard to deal with so many different personalities in all the classrooms. I did a long-term sub at the high school and quickly decided that teenage attitudes were a bit much for me. So I took a test for elementary and have never regretted the change. I still keep up my secondary credential, too. That way, I am more versatile. I also received National Board certification.

wow that sounds very very hard! i don't understand such people at all! it's so painful to see how these people react when you actually do the right thing in the education of their (grand)child, it makes me scared of how they raise this child (it being okay to trip and hit people) in every day life...
and appart from this all... it's just not okay to be called out and cursed if you do a job that much needed...
*sending you digital hugs!*

That is horrible! I cannot imagine what kind of example she is setting for her grandson.

My daughter had a few issues in middle school. I would get a call from the teacher about her attitude and my daughter would claim she was being picked on. I said I don't think the teacher looked around the class room and said, "gee, I think I will pick on Tiffany today and make up stories about her". I got along very well with her teachers and we worked hard to change my daughters behavior.

One time my daughter said she got in trouble and sent out to the hall for asking her friend if she could borrow a pencil. Ok, I thought, wow that is kind of harsh. Then I went further to ask what exactly happen. She said, "I asked my friend if I could borrow a pencil and the teacher asked what I was doing". She then went onto demonstrate as to how she answered the teacher (hard to put into words but she did a body motion) my daughter slung her head around at the teacher and in a snappy voice she said, "I am borrowing a pencil"! I said to my daughter, "I would put you in the hall too for your attitude"! I backed the teacher up on this one!

My daughter did VERY well by the time she went to high school and had a great attitude with all her teachers. The funny thing is, my daughter is now a teacher in college herself!

From reading all this, what I feel we need is cameras in all the classrooms.
If everything goes well, the tape is erased and re-used. If there is an incident, what happened would be fully documented.

Ps.....Made....sorry the cowboys won...they didnt mean to!

It's hard to lose the game when the other Quaterback keeps throwing the ball right to your players. I am looking at the bright side. We will get a better draft pick than we have in the last 10 years.

It is definitely going by way to quick. :-?

Good Afternoon Everyone!!!!!!! It is another chilly day here in central Indy. I spent the morning doing some grocery shopping and then I met a couple of friends for lunch. This afternoon I plan on laying down and taking a nap. Then I might make some cookies. I hope everyone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

today has been a strange day.. glad to say it's over... today a year ago was the day my dear grandmother finally got the rest she deserved... we all mis her a lot, especially my grandfather (closing my eyes, i see him sinking through his knees on her funeral... :'( )
days like these are the hardest, even or especially if they are in the christmas season...

thank you all for spreading the joy of the season!

I am so sorry about your grandmother. I know it has to be hard at Christmas especially (((((( HUGS))))) to you, Kerstig !! We all love you and are glad you are part of our Christmas family xo

Good afternoon Christmas family !

Not too much going on here today in NE Ohio. It has felt very Christmassy all week as we have had snow and cold temperatures. I have been sitting up at night a bit with just the tree lights on in the living room !!! So beautiful and magical !!

As a reminder, A Charlie Brown Christmas is on TONIGHT AT 8 !!!!

:tree:Have a fabulous, Christmassy evening everyone ! xo

Sorry about your grandparent kerstig.

As for my earlier post, they will not put cameras in the classrooms here because they feel it is an invasion of "privacy" and surprisingly it is the teachers that speak out on it the most. They just do not want them in their classrooms. But I do know for a fact that there are several schools in our county that DO have cameras in the classrooms. I am always on guard in the classes I sub for because there are students who absolutely LOVE to try the sub to see how long it will take before the sub walks out. The first job I got, I found out that the SEVENTH graders had a bet going to see how long I would last. They got a rather big surprise when I came back in for them the following week. LOL!!! So far third grade has been the most challenging in the fact that they are right there at that age where mouthing off and trying to challenge everything is like a drug, they keep doing it to see how far they can push it before someone says, "enough."
With the Christmas holiday coming up, I know I am gunna have some stinkers trying me and I am going to be like I always am- firm yet gentle in how I dole out discipline. I am givening full run and I follow the normal teacher's rules and add a few of my own. I always carry a discipline chart with actions and consequences clearly wrote out. This is the FIRST thing I hang up after I put my name on the board. Most of them will read it and think it is a joke until I show them otherwise.

But anyhoo- the temperature is dropping AGAIN and we found out there is a watermain break not far from our house. I am going to be surprised to find we have water in the morning.

I am so sorry to hear. Thanksgiving is hard for me because I lost my grandmother shortly before that. I will keep you in prayer.
