So, I have mentioned about this youth group I have. Well, collectively they all think I am a little touched/crazy or whatever they call it, but I know it gets to them when I tell them why I love each Holiday and what it could mean. So, as an assignment I have them researching the real story of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the way I figure it these kids never had a childhood, wouldn't it be nice to have them learn about this, I know they all rolled their eyes, where like I'm not doing this but as they do it with me at the group even if they are not actively participating they are hearing what is going on, learning about how the story changed from the original 1939 version to the 1947 song, to the 1964 cartoon. They are learning about a company that is no longer in business that had 128 years of doing business. I think by doing this they are going to learn so much about how the story evolved and how people evolved from the mind set of 1939 (still in a depression) to 1947 the post war era, and into the 1960's and the making of the cartoon. I know the story is for children in one respect and I know it is loved by adults as well but for some they were never taught the simple joy of Rudolph and to some they really only know the cartoon in passing & the song they have no idea about how it came to be the fable of how the story came to be the truth of the story and that the story itself is very different from the song and the cartoon. I had a heck of a time getting the original story it is highly guarded, who would have thunk it right!!! So, I will keep you all posted on how this project moves along!!!
