They can be, I had to have it reinsulated last winter, had new windows put on this summer , so hopefully my heating costs will be a little less this winter. I also had to have the basement/foundation reinforced and waterproofed over the summer. Older house can be a money pit sometimes though too lol.
Are new houses not that great there? Here, new houses are really reliable and very well put together! We have just bought a new house because of all the advantages of it, one of them being it's very well isolated and very burglar proof! (they also didn't built it in 5 days, but it took them over a year!)

working on the gingerbread house. Set the pillars, and put down the "sand".(ground up gingerbread pieces) Once that is all dry I can start with some of the decorations that go between the pillars before I can set the house base on top of them. (to small a space to do it after to needs to be done first.
sounds great, good luck!

I have a Cuisinart at home, and I love it! The grinder works like a charm!
I looked up those coffee machines, there not sold here! we have a nespresso machine of krups. do they have those over there? We are very satisfied, the disadvantage of having a very good coffee machine is that you start recognizing all the awful coffees you get served elsewhere :P

This is my first year in the countdown thread, hard to believe I racked up 2k posts in the game thread my first few months here!
is this only your first countdown? I have the feeling you have been here for ever :P this is in fact my second countdown, and i think it is even better than last year, the more people the merrier :D

My cats are older now and ignore the tree. They do love to lay under it but they don't mess with it.

When they were younger it was a hoot to watch them play with the tree. I kept the breakables off because there was no use fighting them. I would wake up in the morning to find the ornaments scattered and one of my cats would actually be sleeping inside the top branches of the tree!!!!

It was a battle to keep my tree straight but wouldn't trade my cats for anything! I actually found it funny to watch them go at it!
hahaha that is so cute! i can't wait to have a cat myself!

Hello everyone
Me oh my it's cold out!!! Had to use the ice scraper on the car windows when I got off work!!! Brrrr.
It's cold here today
It's really cold out here as well! A little bit too cold maybe, I am not yet prepared well!

Anyhow I hope today goes as smoothly and fast as yesterday did,I heard from my mom last night and my dad got out of ICU and is in a regular room. I hope he gets into the Rehab floor before thanksigiving, but either way I just hope he makes as much of a recovery so that he can have some independence. Thanks everyone for the prayers! I hope everyone has a good morning!
I will keep sending you and your family good thoughts!!

But once we get to the weekend....it's no more duty for me for a week! Can't wait!
A very busy week, but you have a well deserved break to look forward to :)

she moved there 2 & 1/2 years ago due to bullying she was enduring @ her previous school. she has really flourished since socially & academically.
I am very glad to hear your daughter is doing so well, and that she is making the right choices and you guys are amazing parents, supporting what is good for her and looking out for her!

Oh...I still have the Christmas Spirit in my heart ALWAYS - "life" just tends to happen as you all can relate too.
I think we can all relate, yes! hope that 'life' is positive...

Congrats kerstig! Way to go! :tree:

My house is over 100 years old, very solid house but always seems that something needs replaced, fixed, brought up to code lol

Yes, Krups machines are available over here. And you're right; once you get good coffee, it's hard to swallow the regular stuff. cheesy

Coumadin went well; in fact, I can add a bit MORE spinach/broccoli to my diet!

MRI after work and sometime this evening, I'll try to do the "sample" and go to LabCorp first thing tomorrow morning.

And I still need to start packing b/c I go back to Tampa for Thanksgiving on Saturday.

Hi All – Hope you are enjoying the early part of the 2011 season!

I must admit that I often pop in to read all of your posts (and they always manage to put a smile on my face) but do not often post myself...well here goes nothing

I thoroughly enjoyed the countdown to the season on here the other day – the anticipation amongst you all was tangible and the excitement was something to behold...

The TSAH clan’s festive season gets into full swing over the next week or two – this weekend see’s the arrival by fishing boat of Father Christmas into the town harbour, he then takes up residence in a local department store for the festive season.

This is then followed on Sunday by the towns annual Christmas light switch on - which coupled with a Disney style parade through the streets makes for a really enjoyable day.

Next weekend then see’s the annual TSAH clan Christmas decoration weekend – we spend the weekend decorating the house inside and out whilst listening to festive music and watching a whole host of festive films – I CAN’T WAIT!

We then have many plans for December but I won’t bore you all with them just yet...

As for the weather here in North Yorkshire at the moment, I have to say it is disappointingly mild, grey, damp, miserable and downright unseasonal – roll on the next cold snap eh?

Almost there...

I have a question for all of the UK based posters...Which supermarket can I buy Eggnog from? As an Eggnog virgin I have sworn that this will be the year I try it for the first time – and any suggestions as to where I can buy some would be much appreciated.

On a final note – I today spotted the first length of tinsel on a desk in my office...we must officially be close now!

Enjoy the rest of your day!!!

Good Afternoon MMC!!!!!! It is a overcast cool day here in central Indy where we currently stand at 52 degrees. I'm pretty busy today but I wanted to stop in and say I hope everyone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning! I have not been outside yet this morning but the computer says it's 54F outside, going to get all the way up to a jaw dropping 84F today. Then maybe possibly a passing shower tonight.

Praying for your dad ......xoxo

good a.m. ya'll! about to get ready for work but wanted to stop in to tell ya'll i'm praying for all of you & hope today will be great for everyone!!

forgot to tell ya'll, my daughter decided not to do track @ school. she said the meets are usually on thurs. evenings & she has started going to "cowboy church" on thurs. w/ a friend of hers & she said she just doesn't want to miss it.
fyi-cowboy church is still church. it's held @ a rodeo here in town. most of the people are just that...cowboys. they ride horses, participate in the rodeos & stuff. they go in plain clothes to services. much more laid back. we are not cowboys though. i don't care as long as she enjoys it. the school she attends is in the country, she moved there 2 & 1/2 years ago due to bullying she was enduring @ her previous school. she has really flourished since socially & academically. anyhoo like i said it's out in the country & lots of the kids are cowboyish so she & her friends love cowboy church. Lord have mercy, @ 15 i'm thankful she still loves the Good Lord like she does & isn't out doing other stuff. didn't mean to ramble on about it just wanted to explain what it actually is.
ya'll have a great tuesday & i'll be back this evening!

I think that is wonderful that she loves church and still loves God.....you are right....It could be much worse !! Blessings to you and your daughter and of course ((HUGS))

And a merry day to all! I was just telling someone that I may not be here all the time...but I always come back! Oh...I still have the Christmas Spirit in my heart ALWAYS - "life" just tends to happen as you all can relate too.

We are getting sooooooo close to Christmas!!! Oh yes...we put our Christmas tree up on Oct 30th! I just love sitting in the living room with all the lights off except for the glow of the Christmas Tree!

I'm curious about who else has their Christmas Tree up?

I've got lots of catching up to do on MMC!

I hope you all have a super day!

So nice to see you here ChristmasHeart !! ......My tree goes up next Thursday On Thanksgiving !!!! xo

My Lily is only 6 months old and this is her very first Christmas !! She has been amazingly good with the nativity scene and the Santas I have up....hope she will be good with the tree !! xoxo

Tuesday ... the week is just crawling along. Mr. got socked with OT again last night. They told him something was coming in at 6 p.m., and it didn't hit his desk until 10:30 p.m. He got to bed around one in the morning. And it's back at his desk at 9 a.m. this morning. I did some more work on a podcast segment, and watched another Christmas documentary.

CM3, did you get my PM?

Hey Merry !! Yep.....I did get it. I am "mulling"things over !! Nice to see you and hear from you !! ((HUGS))

After work today I go with brandi to Dr to have the last sonogram until the due date which is just 6 weeks away. the dr says right now he weighs about 4pounds which is big for that early...my mom always laughed about me because I was due on Jan7th 1975 but I was born december 2nd 1974 5 weeks early and I still weighed 7 pounds,I would have been like 10 or 11 pounds if I was on time. Anyway I am looking forward to see what he looks like now.

I am so excited for you !!!! You are both going to be such amazing parents.

Kerstig - Congratulations !!! What an amazing student you are !! xo

Seawaters and Maureen - Hope you both are feeling better !!

((((HUGS)))))

Kimothy - Hope the tests come back with good results xo

Good Morning everyone! Hope everyone is in good spirits today!
I watched "The Christmas Card" on Hallmark last night, seen it before but was worth watching again.

That's a great movie! My dream home is just like their log cabin!

I am at home today waiting for a electrician to come find out what is wrong with the wiring in my house, weird problem started over the weekend. Every time the fridge, furnace or washing machine turn on, the lights flicker and when I was doing laundry on Sunday, I got a mild shock when I went to turn on the dryer.... My house is an older one, it is over 100 years old, love the charm of the house but stuff like this seems to happen a lot lol.

Good luck with the electrician, hope the repairs aren't too costly.

I know what you mean about older homes, such history & so much more charming! Our first home buying experience was an older condo here, and we bought it for the square footage. All other newer ones in the same price range were 700 sq. ft., ours was @ 1200 sq. ft. And we did so much work on it. When we wanted to get a bigger place, we bought our house...brand new, comfy, clean, (move-in ready!) but not made as well as houses I remember in the midwest. Don't get me wrong, I love our house- we painted, decorated, and made it our own but our next place will have more character & woodwork, and be in different location

And with this post, CAH is poster #25,300. For her efforts, she receives a laminated sign to remind her to "like" everybody!!! Haha. I just crack me up!!

I didn't think to look for her on facebook. I spend more time on here than FB anyway! I "liked" her page now! Thanks RJD!

I forgot a very important part of my post !

(((HUGS))) and kisses to all the furkids in our Christmas family including Snowball, Harlowe, Ella, CAH's furkids, Shellie12s furkids, Snickers, and all the furkids who make life much more loving xo

So Wish is still doing amazingly well, thank God xo

Take care, Christmas family ((HUGS)) to all of you too !!!!

Hey there, Christmas friends!!

She hasn't seen the tree yet, it's a whole different experience! I am curious so let me know how she does with it.

If she is destructive your best bet is twist tie (very tightly) everyone of your breakable ornaments to the tree. I started doing that and NOTHING will get them off the tree unless the whole tree falls or if the cat knows how to untwist twist ties.

I did have a cat, over 20 years ago, that would actually leap into the tree and knock it completely over. Ha ha!

I always think of this song in a funny way, when I see you come back. cheesy

@ChristmasHeart- My tree is up BUT,(and this is a big but) I can't find the decorations!! or the Angel topper. It's like it just disappeared. And I have always hated when ppl put up thier tree like halfway.but that is exactly what has happened to me. luckily it's pre-lit and it does not look too bad just as long as it's lit up. but Yeah My tree was put up last week and so has my yard lights.

I hope you find them.
