She is doing ok. She gets tired easily and has some constant pain from the cancer and arthritis but she is tough. She goes to Wake Forest to see her Oncologist later this month. We're not expecting anything new. Hopefully it stays slow growing and away from vital organs. She has lots of scar tissue in her pelvic area from all the surgeries and the cancer is currently isolated in the scar tissue.

This may be more than you wanted to know but thank you very much for asking and for your prayers.
Bless her heart. Hopefully the cancer will stay slow, and she can get some relief from the constant pain. We're still praying for her, and all of you.

Good Morning MMC!

it is chilly this morning!
What a change from yesterday. We are in urgent need of rain here. We usually see rain most days this time of the year, we have only had a bit so far. Yesterday we had dust storms in some areas!

these fields should be to muddy to walk in right now.

Lots of damage in the area from the winds yesterday. I found my snow shovel back and returned my neighbours lawn chairs.

Is good that she is holding her own , god love her.

Getting anxious about this workweek ... I was told last week about an enormous amount of work that's coming in on a deadline that would be impossible if I had all day to work on it, but the work hasn't even come to my desk yet. Hoping it's not one of those situations where I wait all day for the work, then it comes late in the day and keeps me at the office through the evening.

Of course that will be the way. sitting all day with little to do and then a pile towards the end of the day. do you get paid for overtime?

She is in my prayers, too, mgramsey, as well as you & your family. God bless.

Good luck, Merry! Hope you get the work soon, and it's less than expected!!

I am really upset. My parents hired one of our family friends a few weeks ago to start cutting my grandpa's lawn throughout the spring and summer. Well, we ran into the guy a couple of days ago and he told us that he went over three times and the lawn was cut already. We called my grandpa to ask him why he would keep cutting the grass when we hired someone. My grandpa told us that he never showed up and the lawn got so high that he had to go out and do it himself. He said he waited week after week and he never came. Mind you, my grandpa will be 87 years old this summer. Normally he is very stubborn, but he even admitted to us that he is really starting to feel his age and that he almost couldn't bear to do it. He said by the time he was done cutting his lawn he was so exhausted that he felt physically ill. My grandpa has an old kind of lawn mower too that requires a lot of extra work to use and my dad who is 60 gets worn out from using it. Now we are all very concerned that my grandpa is going to keep going out to cut it himself because he does not think that the person will show up.

My grandpa was nice enough to give our family friend his riding lawn mower years ago for free because he didn't think he'd need it and this guy can't even take twenty minutes to come over and cut his grass with it? I'm really disappointed and now I constantly have to worry if my grandpa is going to be out in the 80° F passing out or worse trying to cut his lawn. I don't think that someone who is 87 years old should be doing much outside let alone standing around for over an hour cutting grass.

Sorry to rant. I just wish there was something I could do.

Thank you for the encouraging words! The work hasn't started coming YET, so more than four hours of the day have been lost. The deadline remains the same, of course ... In my line of work, the time pressure nearly always falls on the proofreader. If writers and designers want or need more time, that time gets squeezed out of the proofreader's schedule. (The perception is that "all you have to do is read the stuff," but it's more complex than that, especially when fact-checking is included.) I try to tell myself that if it isn't possible, it just isn't possible. But the pressure is still there to do an adequate job in an inadequate time frame. I'm trying not to worry, but I fret anyway.

Of course that will be the way. sitting all day with little to do and then a pile towards the end of the day. do you get paid for overtime?

Nope, just salary.

my neighbor did the same thing for their aging grandfather (hired someone to do his lawn care), complained of the same problem, the guy hired never showed up. Turned out gramps resented the family implying he was not capable of mowing his own lawn and would go out early and get it all done before the hired guy showed up. A neighbour was the one who filled the family in on what was really going on. Gave everyone a good laugh. They let gramps do his own mowing from then on, and he enjoyed every moment of it!

Not saying this is what is going on with your grandfather, just wanted to share that funny story with you!

Hope you get it all worked out.

side note: The guy was 92 at the time, lived there until he turned 95, still moving his own lawn

Luckily for us he is in good health. Knock on wood! I don't want to end up jinxing him. We are looking to see if there is someone trustworthy that will do it for us. My brother and dad both work a lot and do not have the time to do it. You are right, he really did get fed up with waiting. While he is stubborn and does not like to admit that he needs help, he'd rather do it himself then wait around for a month for them to show up. He is very independent and usually does not take help from anyone.

That is a funny story! It put a smile to my face. This would certainly be my grandpa last summer or any time before then. He likes to do things himself if he can. Last year when we offered to hire someone he about had a cow and protested no. However, since he admitted to us that he really didn't feel well after doing it and that he is starting to feel his age, I really think that the guy didn't show up. He likes to be outside a lot, but he also had skin cancer removed recently so I think he wants to avoid cutting the grass in the heat if he can.

Wow! Bless him. I cannot imagine someone that age cutting grass, but if it made him happy then good for him. That will be my dad - he pretends he does not like cutting the lawn or working outside, but you can't pull him away. Thanks for sharing your story (:

I am about to make myself a sandwich for lunch and then my mom and I are heading to a very important yearly doctor appointment for me. It's a long story but years ago I had to have surgery on my gums and needed a bone graft. We will take an x-ray today to see if the bone graft is holding up. I have been praying so hard that it does but I did not want to have to ask anyone to pray. I feel like that is all I do around here and you all have better things to do with your time!

Have a wonderful day!

That's a good idea! That's my night off, so will be trying to sleep soundly, I hope!

Good evening,

Late night here, just like when I first joined, my father and his fiancee came over for dinner tonight. We made beef and chicken kabobs, baked potatoes, and corn on the cob, the food was very good, but the temps. in the house almost hit 90*F, so we turned our AC on in April. Six Flags tomorrow, it won't be as hot, but with 4 kids it may be a long day.
The Bruins won another 1 goal game, but it is starting to turn nasty, not Pittsburgh vs Philly nasty but it is getting physical, it was a very good game, I can't wait until Thursday's game.

Have a good night.

Hope you guys enjoy yourselves! Have a safe trip!

good a.m. ya'll!!! my boss called me yesterday w/ a question & heard how bad i sound & told me to take today off too as it's very slow in the shop. thank goodness, i was wondering how in the world i was gonna be able to go back today!

That was very nice of your boss! I sure you feel better soon...you're starting to worry me!

Sugar- Enjoy your day!! You've got some days off this week, right? xo

Aww...thanks for thinking of me! I have off tomorrow and my mom and I are spending the day together after I sleep for 2 or 3 hours - next week is my birthday. Then we're taking EA to the circus tomorrow night. It should be a fun day. Thanks for asking!

Thank you for sharing. We're all a family here and it's not sharing too much info. I hope she stays at least painful at possible. I will continuing to pray for her and your entire family.
