why do the easy mechnical jobs always turn out to be the hardest? I mean putting a neutral safety switch on my nieghbors van should have taken 30 minutes. It's 3 bolts and one screw. I've been working on it for 3 hours now though and still can't get the old one to come off. If only there was room for my sledge hammer.

Did some quick Googling for you to see if I could find any help.

I love it expect for three things.

1) You can delete stuff from your carousel but the next time you turn it off and then back on, it's back.

2) There is no way to access the built in camera expect through skype.

3) I can live with the ads on the home screen but when you hold it in portrait mode it shows suggestions of things you might like based on what's in your carousel. They are annoying and there is no way to opt out of them. The only good thing is if you hold it in landscape mode they don't show up.

I couldn't find any help for item No. 1 ... must be a bug. You could try posting on the support forums on Amazon to see if anyone has a workaround. Or maybe they'll fix it in a software update. Or is there a way to clear the cache on the Fire HD?

For No. 2, maybe you have to install the free Skype app for the Fire HD first? Also, I found this info in an online article called "40 Tips and Tricks for Kindle Fire HD":

"18. Using the Camera – Download PicShop Lite Photo Editor from the Amazon appstore (it’s free, or you can upgrade to the paid version). Open the app, hit the icon in the lower left, then choose "Camera". Like the Google Nexus 7, the Kindle Fire HD has a front-facing camera but they neglected to give users a way to access it since they only intended it to be used for video chat. There are a number of other apps that can open the camera on the Kindle Fire HD in a roundabout way too, basically anything with a camera feature."

For No. 3, you CAN get rid of the ads, but they will charge you:
"Note: Kindle Fire 2nd Generation and Kindle Fire HD include Special Offers. These devices are not sold without them. Because of this, Amazon is able to offer these Kindle Fire devices at a subsidized price. You can unsubscribe from Special Offers for a one-time payment." You can unsubscribe under "Manage Your Kindle" in your account.

MerryCarey- Thanks for the links. When I searched for picture apps last night, I didn't see the picshop. Paying to remove the ads will only remove the ads on the lock screen. The suggested apps part they call a feature not ads. So it doesn't take that off. From the way it sounds they are where the favorite's section is on the older fires.

Good evening, everyone! How are you all? I am well. Just getting the kids bathed and ready for bed. I just got done making cupcakes for EA to take to preschool tomorrow. She is going to share with the class, since it was her birthday on Saturday.

How was everyone's day? Mine was well. It rained here and still is off and on. It was a nice day to sleep. It has been chilly, but I love it. Autumn is really setting and I can really tell. Christmas is getting closer for sure!

I really miss everyone here at the Countdown. I feel like I don't know what is going on here with all of your lives. Know that I am thinking about all of you and praying for you all. One of these days I will get back into touch. Life is so busy right now. I am sure most of you can remember what it was like or you know what it is like.

Good morning MMC!

I hope you all had a great weekend. The Bike For Mike event went really well! It was a beautiful day! The temps started out at 43º on our drive to the event, & worked its way up to mid 70's, sunny & gorgeous! Great day for a bike ride. The coffee tasted so good in the morning! Lol! I think eveyone had a great time & we don't have all the numbers in yet, but we should have about $2000.00 to put towards the scholarship. Not bad for the 1st year! I am so tired today though! We had to be up at 4:15 on Saturday morning. I was up til midnight Friday night. There was a music fest Saturday night in the park accross the road from our house, so we had a bonfire. I was up til 2:45am Saturday night, then we had mass for Mike Sunday morning, chicken dinners at my parents for lunch, then off to the lake we went. I am supposed to be off work tomorrow (Mikes birthday) so maybe somewhere along the line I can catch up on a little sleep! HA!

no not yet, but hubby & Seth are taking it to a guy hubby works w/ who knows alot about that stuff & he has all the "stuff" to fix it. hopefully it won't be too pricey.
by the way...did you try kroil on the screw & bolts? you probably already did but I was just checking. if all else fails go w/ the sledgehammer. lol

Boooo to that! I have the old one, and the favorites are under the carousel. It's a shame they took that away. I'm considering an iPad --- what you're saying makes me think that my be a right move.

My sister has the same problem expect her mother in law just brings bags of stuff over to her house and leaves it. When my niece's were young, she would bring over bags and bags of stuffed animals that belonged to my BIL when he was a kid. They usually found their way to goodwill pretty quick.

My in-laws have been irritating me a good bit lately, which I told DH the other night, I should be just glad I have a set of inlaws. Some people don't and I should be thankful for it.

As you said though, yes, some of the stuff will be soon going to Goodwill, so kids who need it can play with it. I need to clean out some stuff. I've been donating clothes lately. I need to do that with toys, too.

Dinner was quite yummy, the movie were watching is quite bad. It's "What To Expect When You're Expecting," I hate these ensemble cast movies. Late day ahead of me tomorrow.

Good evening friends! I bought a small 2' artificial Christmas tree to hang Halloween stuff on then after Halloween I'll hang Thanksgiving stuff on it and then of course it will be time to make it a Christmas tree! I've never done such a thing before, I hope I'm not disrespecting the Christmas tree. cheesy

I don't think it is at all. My parents do this too. They do this with all the holidays and it looks very nice.

Good evening everyone!

I was supposed to have a practice tonight, but the amount of rain that we received today ruined those plans. The league canceled all scheduled events for the evening. Can't ruin the fields! I was a little excited to get out for some running tonight, too. Perhaps I will take a jog tomorrow after the gym to see how may knee reacts to a bit of stress/impact before my physio appointment on Thursday. We'll see!

Today was a real busy day at work. I thought that I would have a bit of time to post. Boy, was I wrong. Instead, I was the only person (of four) in my department. It was all on my shoulders. I did what I could.

It's going to be chilly tonight. Temperatures are to drop down to 4c with windchill. It seems funny to consider windchill being a factor before the first official day of fall, but it has already arrived! In conclusion, it should be some great sleeping weather tonight! I'm off now though. I hope everyone has enjoyed their Tuesday.

I have managed to do a quick read through of all the posts since I was last here.

It has been a busy day, my son had to have a throat scope this morning to check on what was going on with his hiatus hernia. We almost missed it because for the first time in ages I actually slept in! But we made it. Everything went well and it looked good the doc said. Just have to wait for the biopsy to come back.

Now I am home from my TOPS meeting and enjoying a quiet evening at home.

Goodnight everyone! IT' has been a very busy day,tomorrow is going to be a nightmare! I am going to be on the road all day tomorrow for work,which is very rare! I can't wait till things slow down.....I meant to mention that I go to walmart,or any store now and they have pumpkins and tons of fall decor,I have not seen xmas stuff yet though! I made a good one in the crockpot tonight! Round steak with carrots, celery, onion, garlic, green pepper, & golden mushroom soup, served over mashed potatoes. I could not stop eating it, once I finally got to eat supper at 10:00 tonight! UGH! Good thing I got 2 walks in today! :lol:

My in-laws have been irritating me a good bit lately, which I told DH the other night, I should be just glad I have a set of inlaws. Some people don't and I should be thankful for it.

My inlaws somehow conned me into helping make applesauce tonight! I could not believe how many apples they picked! What were they thinking?!? :lol: My hubby is still over there. I had to come home to give Buster his meds, turn off the crockpot & call my sil. (good excuses, right?) :grin:


I hope you all had a great day. I had such a nice day I wish I had another day off just like it tomorrow! Ah well...back to the grind! At least it will be Pinesday!!!!
