You can try to gargle warm salt water, or a spoonful of honey may help.

Happy New Year, my Christmas friends!

I've had my black-eyed peas and collards, so I'm off to a good start for my new year!

Last night, we steamed oysters and shot fireworks, then I went to bed. Today is my last day off, but I don't mind getting back to work. My schedule is waaaayyy off, so I might have a hard time getting up in the morning though!

I hope y'all have a great evening, and a great New Year! cheesy

I'm a little late to the kickoff party, but glad to be prepared for another Christmas Countdown! Best of luck to everyone in this upcoming year. Make 2013 the best it can be!

In celebration last night, Kim and I went to our friends Scott and Kelly's apartment a few blocks from our apartment. There, we had a great time with about a dozen of our closest friends. It was a wonderful way to ring in the New Year. I hope you all had safe and happy times as well.

It's hard to believe the 2013 Christmas Season has officially come and gone. What a momentous occasion it was. As per tradition, I undecorated the Christmas Tree and took down all the Christmas decorations around the apartment. It seems so bare! Everything has been stored in the closest and is all ready to return in 10 months and 13 days - the beginning of the next Christmas Season!

Until then, let us all marvel in the wonder of the Christmas Countdown and strive to make this year the Countdown's most successful yet! I'm excited to have the opportunity to enjoy another year with you all, friends!

I just got over a terrible sore throat a few weeks ago.

Here are some things that worked for me:

- Gargle with warm salt water.
- Drink hot lemon tea with honey and whisky.
- Suck on cough drops that have honey in them to sooth the throat.
- Don't drink cold beverages, they irritate the throat and can start up a cough.
- Rest your throat because straining it just makes it hurt worse.

Hope you feel better!

Just turned on all my outdoor lights, neighbors across the road have their's on behind us, their is a few on. Time to make dinner. I hope everyone is enjoying Day 1 2013.

Tonight is usually the last night that my family will light up. I am going to make sure we do soon for the remainder of the night. No one in our neighborhood lights up anymore. The people behind us do and that is about it. Our neighbors ripped their tree down last week. Boo!

I will be going strong for another week, it runs in my family. My grandmother keeps hers up until the second/third week in January, and her Santa Claus collection stays up year round. My aunt keeps hers up most of the month of January. I will keep my window candles up until Spring.

I usually don't turn on the lights past NYE but as yesterday was such a dismal day and today is SO MUCH better I turned on the lights a few seconds ago.

Good evening Christmas family

Thank you for seeing me through a really rough start to the New Year. When we gave Wish his fluids today I tried a different site - right at about his shoulder blades. It worked very well - no crying on his part which is such a relief. He has been being a finicky eater these past few days though and I have had to give him some of his regular food mixed with a renal diet food and turkey. At least for now he ate everything.

Track - I hope you are feeling better soon !!

Take care Christmas family - I may be back later xoxoxo

Just curious ... In the last year countdown thread was there anyone who was able to post every day? :)
Just about everyday for me. I have missed some days here and there when things came up or traveling. I think if I totaled all the days missed would equal about 20-25 days?
Why would people fire guns off? What goes up must come down. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
I guess some people don't know how to get drunk without getting stupid! Happens every single year!
Same as it is every year, ball drops, everyone hugs and smooches, music that sounds extra crappy. TV host getting drunker. (Jenny McCarthy last night) She seemed blitzed by 1 am. Every year is almost like Why did I stay up and watch this?
 Good thing we skipped it!!!

Happy first day of the year everyone! The hubs and I let the kids stay up to ring in the New Year last night (with plastic champagne glasses full of grape juice...classy eh?) and this morning I am the only one up at 10:30! We only stayed up until about 1 a.m. Of course if I didn't have to put my ham in the oven and start my black-eyed peas I would probably still be sleeping too.
We drank sparking grape juice out of plastic champagne glasses too!
Our tradition is black eye peas as well.
I am excited for our dinner today. Anyone else eat pork and sauerkraut? This dish is supposed to bring good luck for the New Year. It was a custom started by the Germans and then continued by the Pennsylvania Dutch. And no, I am not Pennsylvania Dutch. I am just Pennsylvania  I know plenty of you will be cringing and scrunching your nose at the word "sauerkraut" but the trick to make it taste good is to drain it and rinse it in cold water at least 3-4 times. This gets out all of the awful bitterness and then it tastes amazing when you cook it with the pork!
As I mentioned above, our tradition is black eye peas in the south. I love sauerkraut though and I don't drain and rinse the juice. I love it! I guess it depends on the brand. I haven't bought it in awhile but Bushs Bavarian Sauerkraut makes some of the best.

Happy New Year (and 8th day of Christmas)! Anybody making a special meal today? My husband made gumbo last night--yummy! Today we'll be having black eyed peas with cabbage on the side--black eyed peas for luck and cabbage for wealth. My husband's eating head cheese for luck today too--I told him he could eat my share as well (yuck, shudder.)
Another one eating black eyes! =)
Head cheese=yuck I could never touch that.
I see a lot of people having black eyed peas, is that a New Year's tradition?
Yes, been a tradition all my life but when Wayne moved here from Maryland he never heard of it.

Happy New Years to everyone! We spent the day today, just lounging around the famoliy room, with a fire in the fireplace, hanging out talking about this coming year.

Especially because of all the uncertainties with this coming year, the world as we once knew it, taxes, jobs, children, etc... We just did alot of soul searching, a sort of coming together as a family. My wife and I both felt that it was a great way to start the new year with the family to try to somewhat plan ahead as a general way to do sort of thing.

I feel that i'm a lucky kind of guy, to have been married to the same woman for over 20 years now; truth is, she just can't resist such a loveable guy like me...lol!!!

I hope all of you have had a wonderful day and a safe night last night! It's the start of a new year and tomorrow it will be back to work full time instaed of the holiday schedule i've been in, oh well, it's always fun while it lasts! Oh, I got a chance to watch the movie, The Lemon drop kid last night, I loved it! Thanks to whoever recommended that!

My lasagna is about to be ready but I was hungry reading all the posts here I was snacking on crackers and hummus..I love Roasted Red pepper hummus
I love hummus!
..i am almost sick for two weeks now...
Sorry to hear you are still sick! I pray you get well soon!

That's sweet! =)

Me! I think some others may have seen it too so sorry if I am taking the credit on that! Lol! I just know it's one of my very favorite Christmas, for over 30 years, and I talk about it a lot. It reminds me of my dad who got me hooked on that movie.

Our New Year started off at work. Wayne and I went in to feed all the animals. We then went out to lunch and came home for a game of Scrabble while listening to Christmas music.

Our tradition every New Years is to take down all outside decorations and most of the indoor (or all). It's cloudy, chilly and damp outside so we only took the lights off the bushes since a lot were burned out. We didn't put away one thing inside the house. I am not ready to take it down yet so they will stay up for awhile longer!

As Judesmama said, Christmas is this year!!! :D

I am not ready to put down any decorations in my room or in the house. I have my tree in my room lit up right now and it looks so pretty. It's sad to think that it'll be down in a week.

It's so much more fun decorating than undecorating :( I would much rather have someone else do it because I hate to!
