"Go West." So-so. But there was an Oscar-winning short subject on the DVD---"Quicker'n a Wink." Also watched "Charlie Chan in Reno."

I vaguely remember that one, when I worked at a video store, I rented all of the Marx Brothers tapes that were available to me. I love the Marx Brothers, Groucho's humor is right up my alley. I was going to name my cat Gomez, Groucho, but my wife didn't like that name. We went with another famous character that had a mustache, Gomez Addams, since Gomez is a black cat with a white mustache, and white "socks" it made sense to me. cheesy

Today is the day of my first ever jury duty!!! The only thing I worry about is it has been raining all weekend and flooding actually..we could get up to another 9 inches by tomorrow. And there are no places to park at our court house.. except for the lawyers and judges.uhhh I worry about the stupidest things. I guess I will just leave an hour early and sit in my car and watch it flood around me!lol have a great day everyone and stay safe in this weather!

That is a lot of rain, I hope jury duty went well.

I've always loved the Marx Brothers. When I was a young teen I read everything about them I could get my hands on. (Well, there were no VCRs, so I couldn't collect their movies.) My favorite Halloween costume was Harpo, and I played fair---I wouldn't speak.

Bill Marx, one of Harpo's sons, had a traveling act in the 1980s. He played the piano, and his partner played the harp, and Bill talked about Harpo. I brought along a 1st-edition copy of "Harpo Speaks" for him to sign, and he wanted me to stick around to talk after the autograph line finished, but my ride was leaving (I didn't have a license yet) and I couldn't stay. I've always regretted that.

For a few years, a local TV station would run a Marx Brothers marathon on New Year's Eve, from about 5 p.m. till past midnight. My parents would go to a card party, my brother would go to my grandparents, and for one night in the year I had the TV to myself and all the Marx Brothers I could handle! Those were great evenings.

I agree that their movies aren't on TV often enough. The next generations won't have a chance to discover them. At least all their movies have been released on DVD.

That is too bad that you weren't able to talk with him, I know TCM has in the past had a Marx Brothers marathon on right before July 4, and I think again in October before they start playing the classic horror flicks.

Good luck w/ jury duty, Dawg! I've never had it but I have heard it's a drag. Good luck on your family's move to Utah also. You are a very understanding hubby to be so supportive of Brandi. God bless you & your family.

good morning everyone! we had another laid back weekend. we watched "American Horror Story" on Netflix Saturday. uh, that was kind'a weird. Not sure what network it was originally on, but it was extremely questionable!!!! Hubby likes watching anything that doesn't have commercials & we don't have Tvo. I found myself feeling quite uncomfortable @ times throughout the shows.

the weather has been rainy w/ yesterday being our only dry, sunny day.

does anyone watch "Once Upon A Time"? I have been enjoying that show. It's about all the fairytale characters from our childhood being stuck in this town & ruled by the wicked witch. I guess it's like a grown up version, you could say.
as you can see, all i have been doing is watching TV. lol

have a great day everyone!!!!:elf:

Once Upon A Time is one of my favorites! I have watched it from the beginning. Sometimes it can get a little boring based on the theme of the episode, but the past few have been continuous and very interesting. I also like the show that comes on right after that, Revenge. It is awesome!

My absolute favorite show is without a doubt Sons of Anarchy. I can't wait until is comes back on in September!

Almost forgot ... Happy February :rudolph: Day!

That was on WDCA Channel 20 out of D.C.---does that even still exist?? It would have been an even better time if I'd known someone then who liked the same things to watch them with me---but I met him some years later and married him. Now we have our favorite movies on DVD and/or 16mm and have a great time watching them together, especially the last three weekends when snowstorms kept us housebound part of the time. Channel 20 also used to show Abbott & Costello movies on Saturday afternoons or Sunday mornings.

That channel sounds a lot like TV38 and channel 56 out of Boston, before they went "corporate" (couldn't think of a better way to describe it) when I was growing up 56 had the "Creature Double Feature" and TV38 had "The Movie Loft." We use to be able to watch them without cable, 38 also use to carry all the road games for the Red Sox & Bruins. We watched them with just an antenna all the way out here in Western Mass. I miss TV stations like that now, it's always the same things on now.

I love the Marx Brothers too. Duck Soup is great. I enjoy some OTR and listening to Groucho's You Bet Your Life.

Okay, my favorite peeps. I finally bit the bullet and posted a blog entry. If you read it, let me know what you think. Thanks for input!

I will check it out, I will probably do it before I finally post the recipe for "Crack" cake. cheesy I keep forgetting to do that.

There are SO many good film mystery series from the 1930s and 1940s---you should see Edna May Oliver as Hildegarde Withers. Actually, Seawaters should see those---Miss Withers was a middle-aged schoolteacher who dabbled in solving murders!

.

A while back i found a dvd set of the Michael Shayne mysteries...i think that is the name....but have not seen them yet. Are they any good?

We just got a notice that all of the local schools are closed tomorrow because of flooding over the roads. The rivers are bursting with water!

Here's quick shot of the field (not a pond, but a field) across the road from my office.

Stay safe and have your floaties ready. cheesy

I get to drive a school bus on Wednesday! They needed a substitute driver because one needed a day off so the Christian school called me!!! Yeah!!!
I will be fun to get behind the wheel again, even if it is just for one day.

have fun w/ the kiddos tomorrow!

When I was out on the patio the other night with Har, I heard an owl hoo'ing!
It was so beautiful. It seemed to be coming from a tree over by "my" red barn. The sky was clear, stars all around, and almost a full moon. And I had to pinch myself, I feel so blessed. So wonderful to be back home.

bless your heart! I'm so happy for you to be home now. it sounds truly amazing.

oh girl, I love my SOA! we started watching it on Netflix so I can't watch the TV episodes. I don't want to miss anything or skip a season. Netflix is always 2 or 3 seasons behind. "Once Upon A Time" is also 1 I'm watching on Netflix so I can't watch the TV episodes of it either. BUMMER, but like I said, Hubby would rather watch it w/out commercials & we do not have Tvo.

speaking of SOA, do you ride?I miss it alot & the show brings back lots of memories. my hubby & I had a '90 Harley Softtail back in the day. I loved that bike but the kids came & we couldn't put a carseat on a Harley, lol. hopefully, 1 day we will have another 1 though.

Hello everyone. I posted back in the summer about my accident and how Mike Holmes was renovating my house for his show. It aired on Nov. 27th, however I forgot to tell people here on the board. If you live in Canada you may have seen it already. If you have not and are interested go to www.HGTV.ca/holmesmakesitright. My episode is episode 7 "If the shoe fits"

To my American friends, it will be airing this year in the States. You won't be able to view it online yet.

Sorry, for forgetting. It's been a hectic year for me.

Hope everyone is well.

Michael

Mike, please, please, please let us know when we can view the video!!!
