It's times like this when I remember what Fred Rogers told children about natural disasters:
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping."

I remember that saying of his too, so true.
I was just talking with my neighbor and she mentioned that folks from this area are getting ready to head out to help too.

Hello everyone. I hate sitting at home feeling powerless. I want to be out helping, but streets are blocked just down the road and only emergency responders can get through. I understand why...I just hate not being able to do anything!

We lost about 24 kids at one of our local schools. Since my wife is a teacher we know so many people in the district, and she is having such a tough time with this! I know everyone is. I was just at that school about two weeks ago, on a Sunday, visiting with some folks who live across the street. I know their house is gone but have not heard from them.

Thanks for all the prayers. Don't get the wrong impression...my house and family are safe! But just taking the loss in the community hard.

Hope you all are having a good Monday. My dogs don't know what to think about all this...helicopters and sirens all around!

Oh, Ryan, I am so very sorry. I have seen some of the coverage that has brought tears to my eyes. I did not hear this news yet. I have said prayers for the community and will continue to do so.

I keep discovering all kinds of cool spots and designs on her but I will check her out again and let you know. Her tummy looks like a dalmatian with all those spots!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! My brother from Cape Cod flew in Thursday & surprised us. He is still here! He was going to leave this morning but he can't get out - It is really foggy at the altitude he will be flying, so he is waiting it out! He might try it around 4:00 this afternoon -I'll just keep hoping & praying he stays safe! EEK!

What a wonderful surprise! Praying that your brother has a safe trip home.

Not on this forum, we don't!!! It is perfectly logical, not crazy; unless being crazy is really logical, LOL!!!

That's great that they'll use it!! I say, whatever works..

I thought about thundershirts for my parents Yorkie, Jazzie. She goes out of her mind, the poor thing. She hides, usually under a bed or behind the toilets. But, on a few occasions, she hid for so long that my parents were frightened because that couldn't find her! One time, she was behind the refrigerator in the utility room, and one time in the cupboards, behind the built-in lazy Susan! She actually crawled under & in! The time she was behind the refrigerator, she must've jumped from my parents bed in the middle of the night, and in the morning, my folks were frantic. They searched & searched, called her name, but she wouldn't come out (it was still storming). Finally, by the afternoon, they called their neighbor Diane, and asked her to bring her dog Max over. Max & Jazzie are buddies, and he sniffed her out, LOL. He was their hero!!

Back to the thundershirt thing, I don't think it would help Harlowe, only because she hates her winter coat. It bothers her so much that she won't potty with it on :/ Little stinker...

But they are a great invention, I think it would help Jazzie. Let me know if you try one for Molly.

I can't even imagine not being able to find one of my dogs in the morning! Thats so sweet how Max was able to get Jazzie to come out from hiding. It's so sad how frightened they get. I looked at the thundershirts once and I'm just not sure. I would hate to spend that money and it didn't help!

Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes. My babies are safe...my wife is safe...and we have a house! Our town though, Moore, has been devistated. It missed my house by about 3/4 a mile. Several schools were hit with the kids still in there and right now search and rescue efforts are going on. Internet access is limited so I may be a no show for a while, but will try to check in as I can.

Thank you guys so much...you are all awesome!!!
