I thought we would hit 60,000 too, but what a great, memorable year we had!

For me, it's the QUALITY of the posts here rather than the quantity that brings me back every day. We rack up nearly 60,000 posts not just to artificially inflate the count, but because we care so genuinely about each other that we're constantly checking in, sharing our thoughts, and keeping in touch.

If it were strictly about the number of posts, I wouldn't come here. It's about the people, not the stats. As long as it stays that way, I'll be here every day I'm able!

Whoa... whoa... whoa. It's the first time I check in and we're already at 23-plus pages. Wow! Glad to see that everyone is excited about the starting of a new year/countdown thread. Can't wait to get to the 'Pines and reach all of those milestones!

Again, much thanks to Crown for continued dedication. Without you, this thread would not exist and we wouldn't have such a wonderful place to gather and discuss right at our fingertips.

A couple of us couldn't sleep last night!!! LOL!!!

I agree, Thank you Crown for all that you do!!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

As you know I wasn't on much. You know, family stuff and running around like a gingerbread man without his head haha. But everything has died down and I'm back! Wanted to share a few pictures with you from Christmas!

First 2 is Christmas morning. Note the middle of the tree, the lights went out! 2 days before Christmas! haha.

Ill be posting some more later on! Everyone have a good Christmas?

So cute! Looks great! Thanks for sharing!!! We had a 1/2 strand of lights go out on a shrub outside the week of Christmas & my hubby said we are NOT fixing that. LOL!!!
Looks like a great Christmas!!! Welcome back!

I wish I could have been here to ring in the New Year with everyone, but I just couldn't hang. Our relocation/ move has really exhausted Lisa and I, and by the time 10:00pm came around, my eyes were rolling up inside my head. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was gone until the closet neighbors started lighting off fireworks (I love fireworks) and I just rolled over and went right back to sleep.

Wow, I'd love to have closets that big … cheesy

Absolutely! BIG thanks to Crown!!!!!

Y'all hush! You're making me feel old! Every weekday morning when that alarm goes off, I think very highly of sleep!

LOL!!!! Well lets just say after only getting 2 hours or so last night, I'm starting to think highly of it too!!!

I do that too! Last year I left a winking Santa mug on my kitchen shelf all year, and a little Christmas pillow on my "library" sofa. I think I'll leave my Christmas mugs on the shelf for a while longer this year.

At the office, I keep a candy cane pen in my pen cup year-round. I made a reputation for myself this year as the office Christmas person, so I may sneak in another seasonal reminder or two!

I think you should!!!

Lets do it!!! :D What I really want to do is keep the tree in the back yard that is in memory of my brother, lit up. Right now we have the trunk wrapped with white lights & the branches with color. I love it. If I have to let Buster out in the middle of the night, the back yard is lit up. I just love it! If there were "winter lights" I could decorate that tree up until March - when they days are finally getting longer & daylight savings begins! I'm betting our back yard neighbors would like it too!

I think that sounds like a great idea!!!!

There is a house up the street that does a mixture of white lights and multi lights. After Christmas the multi lights come down and red lights go up for Valentines day. Then they swap the red for green, for St. Patrick's day.

Looks like the weather channel is now saying 3-5" for my area, but for everyone North of me, look out, I believe you guys are going to get whomped from this storm with some snowfall amounts exceeding 12-18" of snow....:-D

So far AccuWeather is saying 8 to 12 inches for around here. I may be working from home tomorrow and/or Friday. The snow is supposed to start sometime tonight and continue on and off through Friday morning.

I always leave at least one Santa out in my bedroom.

Stay safe!!!!

I have just listened to my Christmas playlist for probably the last time. My decorations will come down this weekend. Another year over. The Christmas movie channel will soon stop :(You know it doesn't feel that long ago since Halloween and everything was only just starting!!!! It's been a good Christmas though, I am so grateful for everything.

You've said what's in my mind today.

Happy New Year! Today Ill take down our outside lights. It will take some time. We use 30 strands of 66ft. lights for the house. Plus the fence an arch way and three mega trees I built. Its kind of a tradition to take down the lights, count to see what we need for next year and make notes of what we want to do for the next Christmas. Then later in the evening we go back up in the attic and make a note that says "See boys I told you it would be here before you know it" we put the days hours and minutes and seconds until the next christmas on the note as well as the number of days until we will put it up again. We then put the note in the tree tote with notes from years past. The tradition started years ago when my oldest son said that Christmas decorations are like a time capsule. It always makes us smile when we open the tote on Thanksgiving day to put the tree up, to see the notes. After all this is done today I will get to enjoy one of my newer traditions for the second time. Entering the milestones in my calendar :)

The tradition of the notes in the "time capsule" is a great idea!

Getting so sad.....only 2 more Christmas movies after this one! :(

Happy New Year Xmastidings & Graywolf!!!

I'm afraid it might be time for me to give up dozing in the recliner by the tree.... Booooo!

Thanks Holiday! :-) Happy New Year to you too!!

I leave a brass JOY trivet on the wall in my bedroom year-round as well as some of my cardinal collection, including the one I received from Head Elf when we did the gift exchange on here a few years back. There are Christmas and winter-themed wood pencils in my pencil glass year-round, too, that I use, esp. in the summer. I didn't find any to add to my collection this year so I may actually use every one of them when I do the Sunday newspaper puzzles.

MerryCarey, where do you find the candy cane pens? I haven't found any in the stores around here for years and am not sure if it would be a good idea to buy them online. I want the ones that smell like peppermint. cheesy

It was great to come home from the lake early evening (last night) & see the whole neighborhood all lit up yet! Not ready for all the lights to go away! Why don't we have "winter lights" around our houses anyway?? It's just a dark time of year! We need to start a new trend...

This has crossed my mind before! Keep the lights going for a while to fight off those dark post-Christmas winter months. But you KNOW somebody would spoil it by saying "How come you still have your Christmas lights up?"

I'd like to do that, too, but I do not have something that will digitize. What do you recommend?

Can you get ahold of a digital recorder? I bought one a few years ago when I was doing some recording for Librivox. We have a combined turntable/cassette/CD/radio unit, and I use a patch cord to connect the headphone jack to the line-in of my digital recorder. (I can't listen in, though, unless I connect an mini-speaker to the recorder.) Then I download the files to my computer, separate the songs (you need software that allows you to edit audio files; I like Audacity, which is free and has a lot of features), fill in the MP3 tags, and I'm in business.

If you don't have a digital recorder, there is hardware out there that allows you to connect a turntable or cassette player to a computer so you can record directly in the computer with recording software (Audacity is good for this, too). They also make turntables and cassette players that connect directly to a computer.

But any of these solutions runs into money. Something to ask Santa for next year ...

I think you should!!!

I have a vintage toy barn on my windowsill at the office. I should get a little Santa figure and eight tiny reindeer, and … voila! Year-round North Pole reindeer barn!
