Good Morning, Friends of the Count.

And a friendly greeting awaits us this morning in the form of our new numbers and the close drawing of our first Milestone of 2015.

Days to the Season: 311
Days to Christmas Day: 353

And the friendliest feature of all is the fact that as of the day after tomorrow, we will be down to SINGLE DIGITS to the 300-day Season window.
(My! Isn't it nice to have the Season count!)

Chilly yesterday but really not too bad for winter and it came with no further rain.
Got a little outdoor work done, which sadly involved mainly undecorating.

Yes, the house is bare of Christmas once again until next December.
With one exception.
We always keep our poinsettia out as long as it has blossoms.

Our thermometer stands just above 29 degrees here at this hour.

Have a Terrific Tuesday, Folks!

** OFFICIAL THREAD - CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN 2015 **

Alright, Friends!
For the 9th consecutive year here at My Merry Christmas (and the 12th year overall) it is time to begin another Countdown!

Here are the statistics since we began the Season Countdown idea 11 years ago:
2004 = 1,217 posts (Christmas.com) = 3.3 posts per day.
2005 = Over 2,700 posts (Christmas.com) = over 7.4 posts per day.
2006 = 3,756 posts (The Christmas Place) = 10.3 posts per day.
2007 = 1,957 posts (My Merry Christmas, where the thread was not launched until July) = 12.1 posts per day.
2008 = 5,103 posts = 13.9 posts per day.
2009 = 8,231 posts = 22.6 posts per day.
2010 = 16,226 posts = 44.5 posts per day.
2011 = 31,091 posts = 85.2 posts per day.
2012 = 39,183 posts = 107.1 posts per day.
2013 = 59,747 posts = 163.7 posts per day!
2014 = 63,096 posts = 172.9 posts per day!!
(The growth of interest and participation in this thread continues to amaze me year after year. There seems to be no limit. A per-day post increase EVERY year since the beginning!)

And now here we are ready to go again, at the start of 2015.

A word of explanation. We are running a dual countdown in this thread - one for Christmas Day and one for the start of the Christmas Season (November 13).
There seems to be general agreement that we look forward to the entire Christmas Season rather than just to Christmas Day.
But why November 13?
Well, it just seems about the right time to regard the season as arriving. That date is exactly 6 weeks before Christmas Day and is about the time the country at large is beginning to really get into the holiday spirit. Most of the stores have decorated. And starting the season then gives us exactly 50 days (Nov 13 through Jan 1) to enjoy being "within" the season, giving it a depth that is lacking with just the Christmas Day count by itself.

We also enjoy noting special "milestones" along the way (see the chart below).

And there is one date you CERTAINLY don't want to miss! Many of us gather here on the evening of November 12 for our annual hour by hour and then minute by minute countdown to the start of the Season at midnight Eastern Time. It's something we really look forward to and is truly great fun!

OK, Everybody.
Climb aboard once again to enjoy reading the posts and following the count which begins today at 316 to the Season and 358 to Christmas Day.

Here is a list of our Christmas Season and Christmas Day countdown milestone markers.

CHRISTMAS SEASON MILESTONE MARKER CHART
January 17 = Day 300
February 12 = 1/4 mark
March 15 = 1/3 mark
April 27 = Day 200
May 15 = 1/2 mark
July 14 = 2/3 mark
August 05 = Day 100
August 14 = 3/4 mark
October 07 = 90 percent (The Home Stretch begins)
November 13 = THE SEASON ARRIVES!

CHRISTMAS DAY MILESTONE MARKER CHART
February 28 = Day 300
March 26 = 1/4 mark
April 26 = 1/3 mark
June 8 = Day 200
June 26 = 1/2 mark
August 25 = 2/3 mark
Sept 16 = Day 100
Sept 25 = 3/4 mark
Nov 18 = 90 percent

You just reminded me - I made a big crock pot full of taco soup last night to cook today....and I forgot to get it going this morning!!!! Grrrrrrrrrr! :( (But it will be fine - I will plug it in at lunch!)

I think the most we're supposed to get is 1-3 inches , but that is including the higher elevations, so we probably won't get very much.

The cold temps are headed this way though!!!

Stay warm sugar ~ have a great day!

Going to be a tad chilly here tonight

That's a wind chill of -11f brrrrrrrr !!!!!

Oh star!! Stay safe & warm. Brrrrr! :cold:

Good evening!
Today was a good day, I had a few things to do around the house and I got it all done. I also ran to the outlets this afternoon to look for a new jacket. I found something that I liked but the pickings were slim. There will probably be bathing suits out in the stores soon. It was a chilly day to be walking around there but they still had Christmas music playing throughout the outlets and that made me very happy. The kitten had another vet appointment this morning, she's growing like a weed and gained another pound. She got a couple of immunizations and she seems a little bit off this evening. She's not hungry and doesn't feel like playing but hopefully she'll sleep it off and feel better tomorrow. That's about it for me, back to work tomorrow morning. Looking forward to it, I miss those little ones. I'll pop in tomorrow morning before I leave. Enjoy the rest of the evening! Goodnight!

I love that they were still playing Christmas music! :smile: I hope sophie is feeling better today. Super sweet pic! Have a good day at work!

Well I'm going to try and go to bed early tonight since tomorrow is going to be a cold long day of shoveling. Just a dusting out there now but the heavy stuff will be moving in soon and then it will be an inch an hour until tomorrow morning. Yuck!!!!

Goodnight, MMC!!!!!!!

Our friends are on their way to Indy now. She said there are jack knifed semi's all over - a UPS double on it's side. They didn't see a salt truck until about 30 minutes ago.... she said Indiana got it much worse than we did here in Ohio. Stay safe & warm made!

And ummmmm, November 12th, that's the date of my Birthday as well, soooooooo, does this mean that I get a cake or something?????:-D

Someone mention cake !!?? You should definitely get cake! Cake is my favourite next to Christmas :D

Good morning!
We are expecting a bit of snow this afternoon. I would typically be super excited but now I have to worry about the girls driving in it. Wish we would have got some last week when everyone was on vacation!
I head back to work this morning. I have to pack lunches and get breakfast started so I've got to run. See you later this afternoon, I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I know what you mean. I would have loved snow while we were all off over the last couple weeks. I still would love some but it causes such chaos here . LOL People just aren't equipped. Snow tires etc here not common.

:yahoo:

Oh does it ever look so nice. I so desired a place to live where there was an abundant wildlife, woods, fields, some farm animals and hopefully a stream. And I was blessed to find such a place.

My property is adjacent to an undeveloped 100 acre tract of land to the right of me, a farm to the left and behind me. I have just about 4 acres, and at the back and one side of my property, I have a small stream that constantly flows from natural springs on the farm pasture behind me.

Since December, I have seen numerous deer, a flock of wild turkeys, 2 coyotes, rabbits, squirrels, and a lot of Blue jays. I can also hear an owl in the woods at night. Just last night, I walked down to the mailbox (with a flashlight in my hand) and when I got down there, I turned it on and jumped up 3 or 4 deer.

Whoa, that's cold....I always do say though, it's a just cause to do some snuggling.

It sounds ideal xmastidings, the prefect county life. I fantasise about owning a ranch somewhere in the open country. I crave the space as opposed to my current tiny house in a congested small town on the outskirts of a hectic city. Maybe someday :)

Your summers must be gorgeous out there !!

Hmmmm, is there any correlation, that a severe cold winter, will cause a baby boom in late summer/ early fall????? :lol:

As a matter of fact my eldest was born in the summer and my youngest in early autumn. There must be some truth to that ...hahahaha!cheesy

In the 20's here this morning, first day back to school for DD. We're supposed to have lows in the single digits & highs below freezing for the next couple of days. Thankfully, there is no chance of precip, so school should not be affected. If it's going to snow, I want it to start on Friday night & finish by Sunday morning so school can go on! I know the teachers pray for snow, but I'd rather get school finished now & not have them going in June. They already start school the first week of August!

I got Christmas cards at CVS yesterday. 75% off, plus Extracare Bucks---less than $2.00 per box!

Now that Christmas is over, I'm now focusing on our Walt Disney World vacation in June. We're paying that off ASAP. There's not much planning left to do, just waiting to make our FastPass reservations in April. We're just saving up as much as we can so we don't have to put anything on the credit card when we get there!

Trying to start the new year drinking more water, keeping the house straightened better, reading my Bible & praying more, exercising more. You know, the usual! I don't put pressure on myself, just do what I can. I'm also going to try not to stress so much about DD's school things. She so scattered & I'm a list-maker. It makes things "interesting" for us!

Sounds like a good start to the year with all those positive plans and your vacation to look forward to. I agree, no need to pressure yourself. Best wishes for 2015.

Yup, I believe it may. Both of my children were born in November. Here's the joke between my wife and I, My son was born in November of 92, my daughter in November of 94 and the February of 96, my wife made me sleep on the couch.....:-?

Just spewed tea everywhere laughing out loud...

I am still playing Christmas music, just can't get enough. cheesy Stay away from those PCB's. I am glad to hear your outdoor lights will still be brightening your neighborhood a little longer. 3 more nights of my outdoor lights left.

I'm still listening to Christmas in my car too! Love it! Enjoy them outdoor lights - ours our down outside only because of the predicted cold & snow....but I'm still all decked out inside. I turned the tree on here at work this morning - looks so festive with the snow!!!!

Good evening,

First day back done, day off tomorrow, nothing like easing back into a routine. Nothing major planned for tomorrow, may run to Rite Aid to see if those lights are 75% off yet. Goodwill may get a visit also, now that a lot of people have un-decorated, maybe find some old Christmas treasures that someone doesn't want anymore.

I hope you all had a good Monday.

Goodnight, everyone.

Enjoy your day off. Hope you find lots of goodies at Goodwill!

Good Morning, friends~
Happy Tuesday [emoji170]
Wishing you a blessed day!

Good morning snowflake! Keeping you in my thoughts & prayers!

I could take him home! So cute!

Morning Snow, morning everyone. Hope you all have a good day.

Good morning Tis! Hope you have a good day too!

Good morning!
:tree:
It's a cold 19 degrees this morning and we are supposed to get about 3 inches of the powdery stuff this morning. So, I was out the door and off to an earlier than usual start this morning. I wanted to get on the road and get into the office before the snow started falling here this morning, I planned it just right. Just as I walked out of the house at 4:20, the first flakes started coming down. 35 miles later, the roads were just starting to turn white and I was here at the office; mission accomplished, safe and sound....:snowball:

Glad you had an uneventful trip to work ~ hope your trip home is the same! Enjoy the snow!! Have a good day!

Good Morning Xmastidings, Tis The Season and Snowflake. I see you all are up bright and early or rather dark ,cold and early. :)

Good Morning everyone! Make it a great day!! :whisper:

Good morning Festive! Hope you are having a great day!

I hope it doesn't cause to much disruption for you all. It must look so beautiful especially where you live. Have much of the wildlife been around now that it is winter?

We are freezing here. It has been below zero and in minus for a few days but today we have gone back up to about 4. No snow though. Lots of frost, rain and sheaths of ice but no snow.

Stay safe and warm!

"Lots of frost, rain and sheaths of ice but no snow." Reading that makes me chilled!!!!! :cold: Stay safe & warm festive!

Good Morning MMC !!

the brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs are here for sure! It is a wind chill of -22c (-8f) this morning.
Off to work in bit. Looks like school buses are going out today even though we are still under a snow squall watch.

Hope you all have a fantastic day !

Hope you & the buses stay safe!!!!
