Christmas Countdown - 2015

Happy New Year, MMC!!!!!! It's going to be a little bit warmer here today with a high of 31 degree's. It's going to be windy though so the wind chill is still going to be down around 0. Brrrr!!!!!! Nothing really planned for me today. I have a corned beef brisket to cook for dinner but there will no sauerkraut anywhere near my apartment. LOL!!!! I'll probably make potatoes to go with it. I hope everyone is having a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Merry 2015 everybody!!! It appears we're starting the way we mean to continue and have hit the ground running. It's only 2pm my time (which is 9am Eastern) and there's already 7 pages here!!!!!!



Hope everybody has had a great festive and is ready to knuckle down and take on the new year. I'm doing a management course on top of my regular work as my boss is retiring (well, it's 90% certain) in March and there's 2 of us after his job!!! If anybody feels up to helping me put together a 3000 word essay every 2 weeks, feel free to drop me a line



Had a wedding on Christmas Day this year (last year?!) which was.......different! Probably would've been happier if the bride hadn't acted as if she was doing me the favour by letting me officiate but hey ho. It was nice coming home to find everything was ready and I just had to sit down to dinner. Might have to organise a few more Christmas Day weddings in the future!!!!



Anyway, enough about me - how did everything turn out for everybody else??

Anyway, enough about me - how did everything turn out for everybody else??

Well since you asked ... I had a week off at work and managed to fit in some merry time with the Grandkids in Ottawa and then spent Christmas Eve and parts of Christmas Day with my family. One of my brother's made it home for Christmas. It wasn't as noisy as usual, but memorable just the same.

I managed to complete all my year-end deadlines so when I go to work tomorrow, it's a fresh start with no worries.

I don't make New Year's resolutions, but I set reasonable goals for myself and manage to achieve them.

I'm going to submit my vacation request on Monday - I like to get it in early. I have a few plans.

:merry: Someone grinched a few trees around here too - small snowbanks have evidence of real trees that have been discarded. I saw a truck carrying half a dozen trees in the back, hopefully using them for kindling or shelter for little critters.

For some reason RJD showed up in a silver renovated bus to pick me up, then we grabbed Gracie and were heading to find JayIsh and then Made wound up on the bus and there were Pogo sticks and hula hoops stored at the back behind a curtain - I don't know what kind of party we were heading to, but it was off to a merry good start. Must have had something to do with that stroll down memory lane that RJD was sharing in the wee hours of the morning.

For the 9th consecutive year here at My Merry Christmas (and the 12th year overall) it is time to begin another Countdown!

Here are the statistics since we began the Season Countdown idea 11 years ago:
2004 = 1,217 posts (Christmas.com) = 3.3 posts per day.
2005 = Over 2,700 posts (Christmas.com) = over 7.4 posts per day.
2006 = 3,756 posts (The Christmas Place) = 10.3 posts per day.
2007 = 1,957 posts (My Merry Christmas, where the thread was not launched until July) = 12.1 posts per day.
2008 = 5,103 posts = 13.9 posts per day.
2009 = 8,231 posts = 22.6 posts per day.
2010 = 16,226 posts = 44.5 posts per day.
2011 = 31,091 posts = 85.2 posts per day.
2012 = 39,183 posts = 107.1 posts per day.
2013 = 59,747 posts = 163.7 posts per day!
2014 = 63,095 posts = 172.9 posts per day!!
(The growth of interest and participation in this thread continues to amaze me year after year. There seems to be no limit. A per-day post increase EVERY year since the beginning!)


And now here we are ready to go again, at the start of 2015.


A word of explanation. We are running a dual countdown in this thread - one for Christmas Day and one for the start of the Christmas Season (November 13).
There seems to be general agreement that we look forward to the entire Christmas Season rather than just to Christmas Day.
But why November 13?
Well, it just seems about the right time to regard the season as arriving. That date is exactly 6 weeks before Christmas Day and is about the time the country at large is beginning to really get into the holiday spirit. Most of the stores have decorated. And starting the season then gives us exactly 50 days (Nov 13 through Jan 1) to enjoy being "within" the season, giving it a depth that is lacking with just the Christmas Day count by itself.

We also enjoy noting special "milestones" along the way (see the chart below).

And there is one date you CERTAINLY don't want to miss! Many of us gather here on the evening of November 12 for our annual hour by hour and then minute by minute countdown to the start of the Season at midnight Eastern Time. It's something we really look forward to and is truly great fun!

Hey gang! Had every intention of coming here to bring in the New Year. I saw one of us post Happy New Year on Facebook and remembered that we celebrate the Eastern Time Zone here....darn.

Low key night here! Couple of movies and crockpot lasagna for us. Doc and Bambina are already in bed. I'm going to do some work and head to bed in about an hour or so.

Shopping tomorrow. Dillards has some huge bargains tomorrow, so I usually buy enough clothes to last me through the year (or until the next size is needed). As for New Years Resolutions....I plan on eating as much as I possibly can.

I've tried it the other way for years with no success, so maybe a little reverse psychology will work on Father Time.
