Bradmac,
Shut Up!! Are you serious??? A sporting clays team at a school? That's great!
I don't usually post about this because guns are a touchy subject these days and I'm not looking to upset anyone who feels strongly about it, but my son Noah, has been in sporting clays since he was 13. He competed on a whim for a fund raiser event being held by my sister in law's church for their men's outdoors group. I took him to the local range to practice the day before as he'd never done it before and he won the event. Like your son, just a natural shot.
At that event there were NSCA members who competed and asked if Noah was a member and had he competed in that. Uh no... what is that?
Sporting clays is headed by the NSCA and they organized the PSC which now airs on NBC sports. This year will be it's 2nd official year.
Noah started competing and won Florida state Sub jr (age division) in 2011, 2012, then moved up to Jrs, and won 2013. 2014 he came in 2nd behind one of his good friends by one clay. LOL In 2013 he won the Florida men's open Master's as well and was the Jr All-State. In 2014 in made the All-American team which is 15 people across the US and is an alternate for the pro-tour. He made the US Krieghoff team as well and is a pro competitor for both Mueller Choke tubes team and Krieghoff. He has a number of scholarship offers across the US from SWAT departments of police and sheriff's offices as well as the Marines. He's 18.
The kids involved in this sport are exceptional. Kind, considerate, hard working, rational, grounded and the majority are very respectful. Not only do the have a great time, terrific comradery, and support each other in a highly competitive environment, there are amazing college opportunities out there as well if that's an interest.
Too cool if your son does get involved!! :-D
