Happy New Week!

Rocky start here ... Mr.'s cold is roaring, so he's going to see the doctor about it, while I'm fighting off a headache. Hopefully, neither one of those can last long. Gorgeous weather, though.

U.S. members, remember Flag Day is tomorrow!
I hope both of you are back 100% soon. I had terrible headaches all of last week.
What are your plans for Flag day?

Good morning MerryCarey! I hope you both feel better soon.
Have a blessed day and fly that flag with pride!!!

Good Monday morning, my Christmas friends!

The BBQ yesterday afternoon was a great success! We celebrated mama's birthday, and Elizabeth's return from camp, AND finally opening the pool for the summer! I think the pool supply store was celebrating after I wrote the check for all the chemicals, too. ;)

It's so hot that the A/C has been struggling to keep up, but it's showing valiant effort!

We're planning a trip to Nashville, TN next week. Nancy's sister and their parents gave Jacob a trip to The Grand Ol' Opry for graduation. He's not really into country music, but he loves live music, and the Charlie Daniels Band is playing that week, so it should be fun! And Lulu is staying with mama for a few days, so she'll love that, too.

I hope y'all have a great day! :D

The moment you mentioned Nashville I was about to ask if you will be visiting the Opry. Wow. How exciting! Please take a photo. Have a wonderful time. Look forward to hearing how it went.

Glad you all had such a ncie weekend and Elizabeth is back home safe and sound.

Where I live most schools have 10 weeks off in the summer (last week in june till first week of September). But where my brother lives in San Diego they go year-round but with shorter more frequent breaks (like 3 weeks at a time several times a year).
At my school we are on the "normal" schedule of about 10 weeks off for the summer. While I do enjoy the extended break and can actually get things done around the house, I really like the idea of year-round school. It would be nice to have more, shorter breaks. From an educational standpoint it would help with retention of information. The problem my school system would have is we are a rural school, so most of the kids are busy in the summer helping on farms and family owned businesses.

Enjoy Nashville. I used to live in Clarksville, TN which is about 45 minutes northwest of Nashville. Downtown Nashville is really nice, or at least it was several years ago. The Opry Mills Mall is really neat too if you get the chance to go there. At Christmas time, the Opry Mills Hotel does a huge light display inside and out. Also at Christmas time, just south of Nashville in a small town called Franklin, they do a great Dicken's weekend. The whole downtown turns into London. They have people as the characters from A Christmas Carol wandering about. The police even dress in old English police outfits.
I have not been to Nashville in about 15 years, so everything is probably different now.:p Wow, 15 years... Does not seem that long ago. Guess I am getting old. o_O

Nobody really celebrates Flag Day ... most Americans couldn't even tell you when it is! But I'll probably wear red, white, and blue and put a flag photo on my computer desktop, and I may take a little gadget to the office that I bought recently: It's a tabletop flag that waves and plays music when you press a button. (I'll mute the music, though!)

I'd prefer the year-round schedule also (as a student or a teacher). Even though the traditional way brings back great memories of having those 10 weeks off in a row and a finality to the school year (and in turn the beginning of a new one after such a long break) I do think that the students and teachers would get more out of it if they went year-round with more frequent breaks. I'd prefer that schedule if I was a teacher too...which is the only other career I've considered doing at some point in the future. I think that I'd get bored being home for that many weeks in a row.

Yeah no excuse to forget next year :). Hope your mom had a great bday! Ironically, it's also the day my parents got married. They were married 2 years on the day I was born. I guess that I was their "anniversary gift".
What a coincidence: Nancy & I were married six years on the day Elizabeth was born. She was a great anniversary gift!

Thank you!

The local Lyons Club puts out flags in the yards of people who pay an annual fee. They go up on Flag Day, July 4, Veterans Memorial Day...all the patriotic days. It's nice to see.

That reminds me, I have to write a check to them!
