Christmas Countdown - 2017

Good morning MMC ~
Not too much going on here. I'm going to make a Costco run. My mother wants to go too so I'll get to spend some time with her today. Other than that I'll be working on my daily chores. Dinner will be Fettucini Alfredo, tomato & mozzarella salad and garlic bread. That's about it for me. I hope everyone is well and has a wonderful Thursday!!!

Good Thursday morning, Christmas friends!

Yesterday afternoon didn't go as well as I'd hoped, so I'm hoping for a better day today. I tried to vacuum the pool, but something is clogging the return-water pipe. The last time that happened, a snake had been sucked into it. Then the computer at home failed, along with the printer. Ugh.

It wasn't all bad, though. Nancy's mom cooked some neck-bone and rice, so that was awesome!

Some encouraging news about Gracie's neck alignment but I'm sorry to read that she isn't keeping her food down. Hopefully it's just a temporary set-back. And please don't ever apologize for talking about Gracie, or anything you want for that matter. Personally, I never tire of hearing about Gracie and I check every day for updates in the hopes that she is feeling better.

Sorry to read about your mother falling down. Sounds like she's had an exciting week, with Emma's surprise shower. She might be a bit tired? Hope you will have a great weekend with her and a great day ahead Holiday

Thanks Martine! Yes, I hope we can get Gracie on the right path! xx He said this may take a few sessions of acupuncture to get her organs all working together correctly. I just hope it happens!

Mom did have a big week! A lady from our town was walking into moms house yesterday & she had her hands full - Emma was in the bathroom - Mom went down 2 steps to open the door for her, she didn't fall down the steps but she backed up to open the door & that's when she lost her balance & fell! Mother, mother! (She should n't be going down steps by herself either!!)

Good Thursday morning! Overcast today but some sun poking through the clouds. Humidity is up again though. It's my day off and I'm about to go grocery shopping to prepare some food for a Summer lunch organized by our social committee tomorrow. I'm making two different kinds of sandwiches and a pear and cherry crumble. Just wanted to share that last night, on a walk at the park with Loki, we crossed path with a Bedlington Terrier. From afar I didn't recognize it because it didn't have its ears partially shaved, but when we got close I got so excited, because I'd never seen one up close before and they are so adorable. It was such a beautiful Summer night, there were tons of people out walking and tons of dogs too, much to Loki's excitement. Hope everyone will enjoy a wonderful day!

I had to go look up Bedlington Terrier! What a unique dog! Reminds me of Gracie how they start out dark & get lighter! Sounds like a great night at the park!

Good morning all.
It is school prep time! First teacher work day is next Friday and then school starts the following Tuesday.

I am starting new classes this year, so I have been slowly putting things together all summer. However, I still need to make some additional changes and such. This year the high school students will be given a Chrome Book to use all year. They will be able to take them home also. Soooo, I am working to integrate online assignments more. I have been working to set up Google Classroom for each of my classes. I can post videos, assignments, announcements, etc. Students can also turn things in there and visit the site when they are absent. I am hoping it all goes smoothly but since it is the first year I have used it, I am sure there will be hiccups.

Also, I am working with a local college, Urbana University, to allow students to get college credit. That adds another wrinkle as I have to work with them on a number of different things. I am excited to do it though. It is a great opportunity for my students and I am hoping it might lead to me being able to teach some online college courses at Urbana in the future.

In other news, though still school related, Henry is out with grandma shopping for school clothes. He is excited and ready to get back to school.

LOL! It had apparently crawled inside the vacuum hose while it was stored in my shop, and when I hooked the hose to the pump, it sucked him into the pool water lines. Creepy!

When I was student teaching I was at a career center (JVS) and every student was issued a laptop. It was GREAT! Students could look things in class, access maps, websites, etc that I wanted them to see without me having to change everything on the SMART Board.
Of course there are downsides. You have to watch for students trying to play games on the computer in the middle of class. Computers stop working or are broken. But overall I think it is a positive. Some of the teachers I work with are little concerned about the laptops, but the teacher can say when and if students can use the laptop in class. So for those teachers who do not want students to use them all of the time, simply don't allow it.

She's baaaack!

Had a great visit with my brother and a wonderful get away. Drove 695.3km roundtrip without the use of cruise and no passengers. I mostly listened to 70's on 7 and sang along as I was driving.
Navigated into the belly of Toronto with no hiccups; got turned around twice, but not bad for my first go.

Went to an off Broadway Play (somewhat of a musical) called Nashville Stories, took the wheel of a sailboat and roamed Lake Ontario with my brother and his good chum Captain Paul.

Made a secret recording with my brother for a later release on Jazz FM 91 to honour our dad in October for his 80th birthday - top secret stuff. Had a tour of the station and met lots of people who treated me like a celebrity. We're also plotting a surprise party for him.

I'm tuckered out a bit now; gonna grab a snooze and hope that my tablet is working when I wake up. Using my work laptop right now and it likes to close pages on me far too often. Uggh! Can't complain as I have a PC so the laptop is not supposed to be used for FB and stuff with fluff; it's for checking mail and working with reports on my USB. For those purposes, it's fine.
