Good morning all.
Another rainyish day here in my part of Ohio.
So yesterday is when Nathan actually left for Basic Training. Monday we took him to the recruiter and then he spent the night at a hotel in Columbus. Tuesday morning he was taken to MEPS for final processing. All of that went as scheduled. However, the weather yesterday was not cooperative. Nathan and about 40 other guys and gals were taken to the Columbus airport to fly near their Basic Training fort. Though Nathan was going to Fort Jackson, South Carolina he had to fly to Atlanta first and then had a layover before flying closer to Fort Jackson where a bus would pick him up and get him to the fort.
(Sorry for all of that background, but it will make sense now.

)
So, Nathan sent me a text a 2:10pm saying he was at the airport and on the plane and leave at 2:28. The plan was an hourish flight to Atlanta and then his next flight was later and he would get to South Carolina at 6:45. There were 9 of them traveling together. At 3:50 he texted back saying that they had not left the ground yet! The storms were too bad. He finally landed in Atlanta at about 7:30, which meant they did not leave Ohio until about 6:30. Then, once in Atlanta, the 9 of them had to wait for a flight on standby. They finally got a flight at about 9:00pm. He said an army representative said that the storms affected over 700 soldiers who were trying to get to various Basic Training locations. Getting to Fort Jackson so late I am sure they got very little sleep after the evening/night in-processing session. What a crazy adventure trying to get to Basic!
It will probably be a couple days before I hear from him again. They usually get a phone call during the first week just to say they are there and ok.
