Well, our community had Halloween tonight (3-4 inches of rain expected tomorrow night). I sit here, lights dimmed, watching a little Halloween movie. I know tomorrow is really Halloween, but I have that feeling...you know...the one where Halloween is over and the two best months are here. I feel amazing....

Tomorrow night, I'm not sure if we will watch Christmas or Halloween movies. I fully intend to listen to Christmas music in the morning. My body just feels Christmas is here. I take off on Friday and I will set up our Christmas tree in anticipation of decorating on Saturday.

As for the rest of the night, I think I will just sit here and enjoy this calm, peaceful feeling that has taken over my mind and body....

Yall have a blessed night.

Hello MerryCarey. In the few days/week leading up to Halloween, some stores have aisles filled with Halloween stock. Many people take part in Halloween parties, meals etc. I think it’s more an excuse to indulge themselves rather than a celebration in remembering the dead. As I say, it all seems very commercial and forced on us. But if people want to take part then let them carry on.

As for ‘Guy Fawkes Night’, that is an English commemoration that is based in the historical fact that on 5th November 1605, Guy Fawkes was arrested whilst watching over explosives (barrels of gunpowder) placed by the group of plotters beneath the House of Lords (Parliament). The idea of the plotters was to blow up the House of Lords thereby assassinating King James I and many other prominent people.

Immortalized in this nursery rhyme:-

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England's overthrow.

By god's mercy he was catch'd
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring.
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.

And what shall we do with him?
Burn him!

Yes, some children do still make a ‘Guy’ from old clothes and ‘demand’ a penny for the ‘Guy’. The proceeds will go toward purchasing fireworks. The ‘Guy’ will get burned on the bonfire!
Thank you for the info! So interesting!

I remember Michael Flanders (on an LP) saying, “[Donald] Swann pushed me up the road in the wheelchair, and we got three shillings sixpence, all in coppers!” I remember feeling very bright because I understood he was mistaken for a “Guy”!

Today is the day. TNBC is going to be watched tonight, synchronised viewing with my new English Rose all the way over in, err, England.

You may recall, that after TNBC has been done on Halloween, the Chrimbo muziq can begin.

Slade will be first up I think.

Have a good day all x

Happy Halloween MMC! It's the big day October 31st. Not sure how we are now Halfway through the Bers already. Going to have some pizza tonight, watch Halloween shows and hand out candy. Weather will cooperate with a mild high of 63 and sunny skies. Have a Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, MMC!!!

It’s going to be a rainy one here but it will hopefully stop just in time for the kids to get out. Mom has an early morning PT appointment, so I’m off to the hospital. I hope everyone has a spooky kind of day!!

Happy Halloween MMC! Not much planned for today. DH starts his regular 4 days off. He’s planning on doing some work outside and plan on trying to do some cleaning. I want to start decorating this weekend. I don’t go in to work tonight until 11. I plan on watching Hallmark, but also want to catch a Hocus Pocus showing. Hope you all enjoy the day and get to do something spooky!

BOO!!
Did I scare you?
No?

Well, this might:
Days to Halloween: 0 (TODAY!!)
Days to the Season: 13 (UNDER the TWO WEEK mark!!)
Days to Christmas Day: 55 (Below eight weeks, now!)

And with that, we reach what I regard as the first day of the holiday season.
Tomorrow, I will be adding the Thanksgiving Day number to the count and we will REALLY start to move!

We warmed up a bit yesterday and will do even better today with our high expected to be in the 70's, and dry conditions.
Rain is possible tomorrow and tomorrow night, however.
Our current temperature?
Well, our thermometer says it's 46 chilly degrees here at this hour.

OK, then!
It's Halloween night at the Shispering Pines.
Carl and crew can't wait to unveil tonight's spooky entertainment and serve their special orange and black frosted fired twinkies with "blood" tea (which I suspect is his famous sweet southern iced tea with a little food coloring added, but please play along for his sake).

Anyway, I hope everyone who comes this evening will have a howling good time and until then, you all have a Wildly Wonderful Wednesday, OK?

Happy Halloween!! My plan is for pizza and my girls are going to their friends tonight so we will relax at home. Kids are off tomorrow due to parent conferences so this makes this night even better for them. Hope you all have a wonderful day!!

Happy Halloween!

Friday the folks on my end of the building (workplace) decided that they'd wear animal "onesie" costumes today. I was out Friday and didn't find out until it was too late, but last night I snagged some fox ears and a tail and am wearing an orange sweater and khaki cords, socks, and loafers. Didn't turn out too bad! So far we have a tiger, a flying squirrel, a pink bunny, a dinosaur, and a couple others. So festive!

Can we have a picture of that ? LOL!!!!

'Fraid not, because they're not all together in one place. They're working at their respective workstations. (And I don't feel right posting pictures of other people online without their okaying it.) But it's fun! My supervisor came in as a pink dinosaur.

Happy Halloween, Christmas friends!

As predicted, Nancy was not amused when she realized that our stealth carver left an empty liquor bottle as part of the scene of the vomiting pumpkin. Why couldn't they leave a full bottle? LOL!! Just kidding! She would kill me just for joking about that! We saw one of the local preachers last night, and he mentioned that someone pointed out our house to him yesterday. Nancy flipped out, thinking he might've seen the bottle on the front step. I assured her that you couldn't tell what it was from the road. Whew, dodged THAT bullet!

Elizabeth's play was a great, sold-out success! All of the kids gave a great performance, especially Elizabeth. ;) The dinner was super, too. They have regional competition on Friday, then an encore Dessert Theater performance at school again next Thursday. Here she is on the porch that required all of my carpentry talents:

I hope y'all have a spooky day! :D

Good morning MMC!! Merry Pines Day/Happy Halloween/Can't believe tomorrow is NOVEMBER!! It's a super dreary ol day here! It's 60º but doesn't seem like it - especially from the inside looking out - it looks cold!!! LOL!!
Not much going on today besides working at both places & my brother/sil/dog made it in yesterday so I'm sure we will be hanging at moms to visit after work! We got together last night - many of my nieces/nephews were able to make it, which was nice. The great grandkids were having a ball/so cute & funny! The original plan was to order pizza but my sister made tortilla chicken soup, my SIL made a big salad, we had rotisserie chicken, KFC rolls & chicken...plus lots of snacks. It was a feast! Mom seemed to be having a better night. It was nice to see her sitting in her chair & not laying in that bed!!!
Everyone, have a GREAT day!! I hope to catch up a little around here this morning!! xx
