Good Morning and Happy Saturday!
It’s going to be warm and humid today with showers & thunderstorms. I’m heading out soon, I have to make a big food shopping trip. I may take a ride to Bed, Bath & Beyond later this afternoon if the weather isn’t too bad. Other than that I will be working on the laundry. Dinner will be barbecued chicken and ribs. I also plan on making brown sugar & bacon baked beans and potato salad. That’s about it for me. I hope everyone is well and has a wonderful day!!!
xx

Ummmmm, YUM! Can I place an order for a delivery?

Good morning! Coffee, where are you my friend; I am so much in need of you!

I awoke to what sounded like the flood gates of Heaven had opened up outside. It's been pouring out there and it looks like its going to be a wash (ha-ha-ha) to be able to get anything done on the outside today. So, inside work and odds and ends for me today.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

My daughter had soccer conditioning this morning and when i picked her up...it was a monsoon! Definitely great day to stay inside and watch a Christmas movie!
Have a great day!

Good morning MMC! It’s supposed to rain all day so it will be a day of laundry! We picked up my youngest daughter at camp last night and she had a great time! My husband left this morning for his golf trip and will be back on Monday. It should be a quiet weekend. I think we may have Chipotle for dinner if the rain is not too bad. Hope you all have a great day!

.....There was another one I watched, hmmmmm, it was awhile ago, I think it was the 1951 version. I started watching it, but I don't think that I ever finished it.....
I strongly recommend you give the 1951 version starring Alastair Sim another try and watch it all the way through. It is by far my favorite and is generally considered to be the finest, truest version. Don't think you'll be disappointed!

It's going to be a warm one all week. The humidity was 100% this morning. I really don't know what that means. I thought we'd be under water if it was 100%, but obviously not. :)

Will try to stay in the air conditioned spaces today because there won't be much of a breeze to cool off with outside. Laundry's done and I have errands this afternoon. Maybe make some bread in the evening when it's cooler.

Stay cool all and the 'bers will be here before you know it.

Good morning ... taking a break from getting ready for our sons birthday party today. Almost everything is done, just need to pick up a few odds/ends, sweep the floors, get the meatballs in the crockpot and go pick up the cake LOL. Have great day

A very Happy Birthday to your son, Minta!

For the past hour, I have been watching A Christmas Carol on HBO Family...the one with George C. Scott...it is one my favorites.
That one has my favorite Ghost of Christmas Present. He's jolly, but he really lets Scrooge have it in the "less fit to live" speech.

Hmmmm, that's a really tough question to answer. You know why, wanting to watch a Christmas carol, it's like it's a desire that just comes across me, almost like a certain mood that I am in, that I would need to watch it, but which year of a Christmas Carol to watch, Gosh, I think it just depends on what I am in the mood for.

I like them all (at least all the ones that I have watched to date). The one that I do not think I watched was the version that you and the Mr likes, truthfully, I do not recall if I have ever watched that one. There was a couple that were very, very old ones that was on demand, that I started to watch them a couple of years ago, but stopped because they were is such a poor condition, they were so chopped up and grainy, that I became disgruntled with the film and stopped paying attention to the movie itself and I turned them off.

There was another one I watched, hmmmmm, it was awhile ago, I think it was the 1951 version. I started watching it, but I don't think that I ever finished it.

To date, I think my favorites are, the 1938 version with Reginald Owen and Gene Lockhart, 1999 version with Patrick Stewart, the 1992 Muppets Christmas Carol with Michael Caine, the 1984 version with George C Scott.
We need to educate your palate ... must see the Alastair Sim version and the Seymour Hicks version.* They're UK films, and they're closer to Dickens' conception of a ghost story---serious and atmospheric, instead of totally frothy. (The George C. Scott version also tends toward drama rather than revelry, and that was also a UK production, I believe.)

*The hard part is finding a decent copy of Sir Seymour's Scrooge. It's in the public domain, so it's been cut down for classrooms, chopped up, and duped to h--- and gone. But if you can find a good transfer of the full-length version, it's well worth it. Dickens would have loved it.

It's an education to see the UK trailer for Sim's version back to back with trailer they made for U.S. audiences. They sold it to the UK as Dickens, and weren't afraid to show the dark, ghostly side. For the U.S., though, they lean hard on the festive aspects of the film.

You all are speaking my language with all of the Christmas Carol movie talk!
I LOVE A CHRISTMAS CAROL! :D
I read it every Christmas season and watch the various versions multiple times.

MerryCarey, I agree with you about the UK versions vs the US versions. The UK versions seem to really capture the heart and essence of the story.

My two favorite versions are the 1984 George C. Scott version and the 1951 Alastair Sim version. Both actors were outstanding in the role as Scrooge and, in my opinion, do the best job of bringing the character in the story to life. They were so proud to be tight-fisted and miserly, they were no simply "being mean."

I like the additions in the Christmas Past portion of the 1951 version as well.
The Ghost of Christmas Present in the 1984 version, I agree, was the best. However, the Ghost of Christmas Past in the 1984 version was not as good. I think Joel Grey in the Patrick Stewart version did the best Ghost of Christmas Past.

I do like the Patrick Stewart version, it has grown on my over the last few years, it is my wife's favorite version.

The 1938 version is one I watch mostly because it brings back memories of my childhood as it was often the one on TV. However, I am not a huge fan of Reginald Owen's portrayal.

I like the 1935 version ok, and better than the 1938, but I think it does not stand up compared to 1951 and 1984.

My favorite adaptation is Scrooged with Bill Murray. Even with all of the comedy I think they captured the heart of the story. Bill Murray's speech at the (most of which was ad-lib) was great.

I could go on and on and on. :)

My favorite is Scrooge, with Albert Finney. They are all wonderful in their own way, though.

Scrooged is the best! Love Bill Murray. Adrian and I make it a point to watch that together every year, during the season.

Good afternoon, MMC~

It’s another humid day here, storms are back this afternoon.

It’s been a productive morning around the house. We did some housework, yard work, and laundry.

Tonight we are heading out to dinner for Adrian’s Birthday. And checking out a microbrewery. I’m hoping to try a new Oktoberfest beer.

Hope you are all having a relaxing weekend so far!!
